Top House Republican Says Progressives Think ‘Unicorn Pixie Dust Energy’ Charges Electric Cars

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) revelled in attacking Democratic Party U.S. Senate nominee in Michigan Abdul El-Sayed on Thursday and went so far as to accuse progressives of thinking that electric cars don’t rely on fossil fuels for charging.

“You know, look at El-Sayed—I mean, El Sayeed—just the other day said on a national TV show that he wants to raise your taxes for free healthcare. I mean, nothing says ‘free healthcare’ like raising your taxes. He’s openly saying it,” Scalise beamed during an Americans for Prosperity-Michigan event.

“I mean, we reduced your taxes. John James, who, by the way, I’d be remiss if I didn’t say, we would not have some of the great policies in the One Big Beautiful Bill without the leadership of John James. He brought up the piece, he didn’t just show up to vote yes, he was implementing where the work was getting done, putting those ideas forward, fighting for those ideas, in every case, fighting against Democrats who didn’t want transparency, who didn’t want lower taxes,” Scalise continued, boosting the GOP gubernatorial nominee in Michigan.

“And you’re seeing it on the ballot here in Michigan. Again, El Sayed is saying all those things. He’s saying he wants to raise your taxes. He’s saying it openly. And so when you see, whether it’s repealing the One Big Beautiful Bill—that means every American gets a tax increase. If you work overtime at one of the car manufacturing plants in Detroit, your taxes will go up if they get their way, because they’re telling you they’ll do it. Not to mention energy production in America,” Scalise continued, adding:

You know, I mean, these people that think you can plug your car into a tree and get, you know, this unicorn pixie dust energy—I mean, it just comes from the sky. My God, you get on an airplane and they just put the solar panels on the wings and everything’s cool. None of it works. It’s all phony baloney that they’re selling. And people are figuring it out, by the way. People are seeing it for themselves. They know the contrast.
