Trump Official Blasts Key NATO Ally for Raising Concerns About Airstrikes in Caribbean: Not a ‘Friend of This Country’
Border czar Tom Homan on Friday claimed the UK was no longer a “friend of this country” after the British raised concerns over the airstrikes carried out in the Caribbean.
In recent weeks, President Donald Trump’s administration has taken to bombing boats in the Caribbean. The boats, cabinet members maintain, were involved in trafficking drugs into the U.S. Critics of the move have argued that the administration has not provided sufficient evidence to back those claims, accusing it of recklessly killing dozens of people in the water as opposed to bringing them in to face justice.
On Tuesday, CNN reported that the UK suspended intelligence sharing with the U.S. in response to these strikes. A source told CNN that the UK deems the strikes “illegal.”
When confronted with that report on Friday, Homan was quick to distance America from the British.
“I don’t, I — first off, it’s out of my lane,” Homan said, “but I don’t think the UK is a friend of this country, a friend of the president. I don’t think there’s skepticism, and I’m not familiar with not sharing intelligence. I’m getting out of my lane. I’m the border guy, so that’s a question for Pete Hegseth or the Secretary of State.”
In a statement, former senior Biden adviser Andrew Bates said “Instead of damaging our national security and attacking our closest ally, Homan should listen to the American Catholic bishops who this week condemned the administration’s threats against the sanctity of houses of worship and the special nature of hospitals and schools.”
