Trump Slammed by His Own Supporters Over Proposed ‘Great Betrayal’ on Immigration

President Donald Trump received backlash from supporters on Thursday after he proposed legislation that would allow migrant workers who entered the United States illegally to remain.
Trump announced he was “working on legislation right now,” which would allow illegal workers to stay, telling supporters at a rally in Des Moines, Iowa, “You had cases where, not here, but just even over the years where people have worked for a farm, on a farm for 14, 15 years and they get thrown out pretty viciously and we can’t do it. We gotta work with the farmers, and people that have hotels and leisure properties too.”
“Now, serious radical right people, who I also happen to like a lot, they may not be quite as happy, but they’ll understand,” he continued. “Won’t they? Do you think so?”
Trump’s question was quickly answered as supporters of the president — and not just those on the “radical right” — expressed outrage over the proposal.
“Trump wants to let hotels owners, many of whom are receiving interest-free minority and migrant loans, and getting tax breaks, to give amnesty to its illegal immigrant labor?” commentator Mike Cernovich said in an X post. “What percentage of hotels are owned by Americans? It’s much lower than it used to be. How can you compete when a H-1B gets a tax break and low or no interest loan? Now Trump is talking about giving them even more – amnesty for their workers? This would be a great betrayal.”
“This is just amnesty, even worse it’s amnesty for specific industries,” weighed in The Blaze host Auron MacIntyre. “This is not what Trump promised, it’s not what MAGA voters want.”
The Blaze senior editor Daniel Horowitz called Trump’s idea “a losing proposition,” questioning, “So we’re ok with this? What the hell is the point of throwing a quadrillion dollars at ICE if we only go after those criminal records, and even those, are given court cases one by one?”
Human Events senior editor Jack Posobiec pointed out that the murderer of 20-year-old Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts had worked at several farms illegally in the United States and that Tibbetts was murdered just an hour away from Trump’s Thursday rally at the Iowa Fairgrounds.
Others took aim at Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, blaming her for the proposed legislation.
Trump’s proposal also received criticism from Wyoming’s Meriwether Farms, which responded, “It is not a radical right position to want to prioritize hardworking Americans and honest business owners over dishonest corporations who exploit illegal labor. It is COMMON SENSE.”
President Trump ordered Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials to halt raids on farms, restaurants, and hotels last month, claiming that the “very aggressive policy” against illegal immigration was “taking very good, long time workers away” from businesses.
