President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed a proclamation instituting a full travel ban on individuals from 12 countries and a partial ban on people from seven others, two sources told CNN.

Nationals from the following countries may not travel to the U.S.:

Afghanistan
Chad
Republic of the Congo
Equatorial Guinea
Eritrea
Haiti
Iran
Libya
Myanmar
Somalia
Sudan
Yemen

Meanwhile, seven other nations were hit with partial restrictions:

Burundi
Cuba
Laos
Sierra Leone
Togo
Turkmenistan
Venezuela

The move is reminiscent of the ban Trump signed in his first term in 2017. Shortly after the news broke, Trump posted a video on Truth Social explaining his decision.

“The recent attack in Boulder, Colorado has underscored the extreme dangers posed to our country by the entry of foreign nationals who are not properly vetted, as well as those who come here as temporary visitors and overstay their visas,” Trump said, referring to an Egyptian national arrested for allegedly attacking Jewish people on Sunday. Egypt was not among the countries subject to a ban.

Trump went on to blame former President Joe Biden for violence committed by immigrants.

“Very simply, we cannot have open migration from any country where we cannot safely and reliably vet and screen those who seek to enter the United States.”
