WATCH: Jim Jordan Clings to Stolen Election Claims Even as His Speaker’s Bid Looks Bleak

During a Friday morning media avail at the Capitol, Rep. Jim Jordan noted the dire need for House Republicans to rally around a potential Speaker candidate and mostly argued why he was the ideal person to fill the current void.

Jordan opened with a curious story about visiting the home of the Wright brothers and an epiphany he had before blaming the Biden administration for “weaponizing the government” against American citizens.

After his prepared remarks, he took questions that primarily focused on whether he would opt to grind out his bid for Speakership with multiple votes, not unlike Rep. Kevin McCarthy, who became speaker in January after 15 votes.  The most interesting question, however, came from an unidentified reporter who focused on the events of January 6th and Jordan’s apparent reluctance to admit President Joe Biden won in 2020 in a free and fair election.

The two-part question focused on a text he forwarded to Trump Chief of Staff Mark Meadows on January 5th, containing details of the plot for then-Vice President Mike Pence to block Biden’s certification as president. The second part of the question was if he believed the 2020 election was stolen.

“I think there are all kinds of problems with the 2020 election,” Jordan replied, refusing to say whether or not he thinks the election was stolen. ” I’ve been clear about that.”

“My intention in forwarding the email was an argument made by the former inspector general for Donald Rumsfeld, an accomplished lawyer who laid out an argument from the Federalist Papers. I forwarded on to them that that was all of us.”

Jordan’s reluctance to admit that Biden won the 2020 free and fair election — despite senior Trump administration officials confirming there was no evidence that the election was rigged or stolen — has become a sticking point for Jordan’s bid for speakership. One fellow Freedom Caucus member — Rep. Ken Buck — cited this as a primary reason he refuses to support Jordan.
