WATCH: Lawyer for Chiefs Fan Arrested for String of Armed Robberies Gives Absolutely Absurd Statement to the Public
The ridiculous case of the Kansas City Chiefs fan responsible for a string of armed robberies somehow got even more ridiculous when his lawyer spoke to reporters.
In July, Xaviar Babudar was arrested in California after robbing numerous banks and credit unions between March and December 2022. The 29-year-old is most commonly known as the “ChiefsAholic,” a Chiefs “superfan” dressed in a wolf costume and wearing team gear from head to toe.
On Wednesday, Babudar pleaded guilty to multiple charges stemming from the robberies. He’s scheduled to be sentenced July 10 and faces a maximum of 50 years in prison.
After Babudar’s guilty plea, his attorney Matthew Merryman gave a bizarre statement filled with football references.
“From the beginning of this case, folks, the government has been blitzing,” Merryman said, “and Xaviar’s pocket was collapsing, but today Xaviar stepped into the pressure. He took responsibility for his actions. He stood up in court, humble and repentant, and admitted what he had done.
“Now, if I know anything about Xaviar, and if the Chiefs Kingdom knows anything about ChiefsAholic, we know that he doesn’t give up. We know that if he stumbled and he fell, he didn’t let his knee touch the ground; and that’s because he’s capable of doing a great thing and he knows that there’s still hope. We still have a lot of work to do on his case, but Xaviar wants everyone to know that he loves the Chiefs kingdom, he loves Kansas City, and he hopes that you’ll rally to his support. Thank you and God bless.”
