Rep. Rashida Tlaib Doubles Down on Profane Call For Trump’s Impeachment: ‘The President Has Met His Match’
Newly elected Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) is not backing down from her calls to have President Donald Trump to be impeached. During an interview with WDIV-TV Detroit, Tlaib doubled down on her comments saying the new Democratic majority in the House of Representatives with “impeach the motherfucker.”
In response to the video shared on social media, Trump said Tlaib had dishonored herself and her family.
“Yeah, he needs to put a mirror up,” she replied when asked about Trump’s comments.
“I stand by impeaching the President of the United States, I ran on that,” Tlaib added. She was then asked if she would have worded it differently.
“You know, look, it’s probably exactly how my grandmother, if she was alive, would say it,” she replied. “Obviously, I am a member of Congress and things that I say is elevated on a national level, and I understand that very clearly. I am very passionate.”
Saying Detroit-ers express themselves in colorful ways, Tlaib suggested Trump is finally getting a taste of his own medicine.
“I think President Trump has met his match,” she said.
Some fellow House Democrats have distanced themselves from the incident. Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) said he did not like her use of profanity.
“No, I don’t really like that kind of language, but more to the point I disagree with what she said,” Nadler told CNN. “It is too early to talk about that intelligently.”
