ABC’s Jon Karl to Sarah Sanders on Trump Immigrant Rape Claim: ‘What Was He Talking About?’
During today’s White House briefing, Sarah Huckabee Sanders faced questions about President Trump‘s claim about the level of immigrant rape.
In public remarks yesterday, the President recalled what he said about Mexican rapists during his campaign announcement speech before saying, “And yesterday it came out where this journey coming up, women are raped at levels that nobody has ever seen before. They don’t want to mention that.”
So at the briefing today, ABC News’ Jonathan Karl asked Huckabee Sanders, “What was he talking about?”
“There was a story,” she responded, “I believe it was the LA Times, I don’t have it here in front of me, that documented some of that, but there’s also––this is a well-documented fact that a lot of the people––I believe up to 80 percent in recent years of women that are making that journey have been raped in that process. The President’s saying that’s simply unacceptable and this is something that should be looked at.”
After she made those remarks, principal deputy press secretary Raj Shah linked to what Huckabee Sanders was apparently referring to:
