CNN Airs Check Trump Allegedly Signed to Reimburse Michael Cohen for Hush Money Payments
CNN has obtained a copy of the check Michael Cohen received from Donald Trump to allegedly compensate him for the illegal hush money payments he conducted on the president’s behalf.
Cohen will appear for a public hearing on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, during which, he will face questions about Trump Tower Moscow and his claim that Trump ordered him to violate campaign finance law by paying off women who allegedly had affairs with the president. Previews of Cohen’s opening statement suggest that he will portray his former boss in a negative light and will supposedly provide documents to illuminate Trump’s criminal conduct. This includes Cohen’s claim that Trump knew about Wikileaks’ 2016 election activities ahead of time.
As CNN covered all of this on New Day, John Berman aired a $35,000 check Trump wrote to Cohen in 2017, which was part of the reimbursement for Cohen’s payment to Stormy Daniels. Since Cohen has implicated Trump in campaign finance lawbreaking by saying he was directly involved in these matters, CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin described the check as a sign of “participation in a criminal conspiracy.”
“If the surrounding circumstances are as Cohen describes them, this is a part of a criminal conspiracy to violate the campaign finance law,” Toobin surmised.
