CNN’s New Day Warns of ‘Orwellian’ Change in WH Putin Transcript: Not Fooling Anyone But Fox News Viewers

CNN’s New Day covered a grave development in the Trump-Putin press conference mess: the White House’s official transcript of the presser omitted a crucial line about the Russian president declaring he wanted Trump to win the 2016 election.

During the presser, a reporter asked Vladimir Putin if he wanted Trump to win in 2016, and if he directed any of his officials to help him do that.

“Yes I did,” Putin replied. “Because he talked about bringing the U.S.-Russia relationship back to normal.”

The White House deleted that question from the official transcript.

“They have changed reality,” CNN’s Alisyn Camerota said gravely.

“You’ve been talking about how Orwellian this is, and I think that’s the right word,” conservative commentator Max Boot said. “[He’s] re-writing the past. Now of course he’s doing it in such a ham-handed and ridiculous way. I really don’t know who they think they’re going to fool unless it’s Fox News viewers, who seem to be endlessly gullible and willing to accept whatever the president says.”

“I want to make clear — this is literally Orwellian,” CNN’s John Berman said.

Trump has repeatedly claimed, despite overwhelming evidence, the Russia did not favor his candidacy in their meddling efforts.
