Debra Messing Calls Out E! For Gender Pay Gap — While Appearing on E!

Debra Messing called out E! Entertainment while appearing on the network’s Golden Globe’s red carpet show for their alleged pay disparity.

Messing first explained why she — like most attendees at the Golden Globes this year — was wearing black.

“I am wearing black to thank and honor all of the brave whistleblowers who came forward and shared their stories of harassment and assault and discrimination,” Messing told E! host Giuliana Rancic. “I’m wearing black to stand in solidarity with all my sisters across the globe.”

We want diversity, we want intersectional gender parity, we want equal pay,” Messing continued, before calling out the very network she was appearing on.

“I was so shocked to hear that E! doesn’t believe in paying their female co-hosts the same as their male co-hosts,” she said.

Catt Sadler, a former host of E! show Daily Pop, quit last month after finding out her male co-host Jason Kennedy made nearly twice as much money as she did.

The network did not reveal the hosts’ respective salaries, but issued a statement saying it “compensates employees fairly and appropriately based on their roles, regardless of gender.”

“I miss Catt Sadler, and we stand with her,” Messing said. “And that’s something that can change tomorrow. We want people to start having this conversation that women are just as valuable as men.”
