Fmr. CIA Director Panetta: Trump Owes McRaven and Navy SEALs Involved in Bin Laden Raid an Apology

Former CIA director and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta joined MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell today and ripped President Donald Trump for his comments about retired Admiral William McRaven and the bin Laden raid.

McRaven had criticized Trump’s attacks on the press and Trump lashed out by calling him a “Hillary Clinton fan” and questioning why we didn’t get bin Laden sooner.

Panetta said, “This president owes Admiral McRaven and all of the SEALs involved in that operation an apology for what he’s saying. He’s undermining his position as Commander-in-Chief. Not only with those that conducted the operation, but with the entire military.”

He defended the intel work that went into the raid that ultimately took out bin Laden, saying that Trump “ought to recognize that it’s that kind of valor and courage that is important in order to protect the security of this country.”

He also criticized Trump’s comments on Saudi Arabia as the scrutiny over Jamal Khashoggi‘s murder continues, and even his comments about the California wildfires, saying POTUS should not “make up his own reality.”
