A would-be bride on the hit Netflix dating show Love is Blind has gone viral for leaving her would-be groom at the alter because of politics.

In the current season’s final episode, which premiered on Friday, the bride — Sara Carton — explained why she said “I don’t” to partner Ben Mezzenga when it came time to either tie the knot or walk away.

“I love you so much, but I’ve always wanted a partner to be on the same wavelength,” Carton said. “And so today, I can’t [marry you].”

She added, “My heart is there. But when we talked about a lot of the values that I hold so close to my heart, making this decision, my mind is telling me I can’t.”

Leaving the ceremony with her mother and sister, Carton elaborated that Mezzenga’s political views played a big role in her decision.

“I remember I asked him about Black Lives Matter,” Carton said. “And I’m no expert. But when I asked him about it, he’s like, ‘I guess I never really thought too much about it.’ That affected me! … How could it not? How did it not make you think about something?

“I asked him too what his Church’s views are, and he said he didn’t know. And so then I watched a sermon online… about sexual identity. And it was traditional. And I told that to Ben… and he doesn’t really have much to say about it. I want someone to think about that stuff.”

In Love is Blind, couples connect in pods while talking to each other through a wall, and get engaged before ever laying eyes on each other. They then spend 30 days together — first on a romantic getaway and then in their home cities — before deciding whether or not to go through with the wedding.

Carton broached the subject of politics before ever meeting Mezzenga in person. Her progressive ideology clearly did not mesh with Mezzenga’s more moderate, ambivalent views on many issues. Politics came up several more times after the two met face-to-face, but the two never really seemed to find common ground.

In an interview with People, Carton said it was less about Mezzenga’s particular views, and more about the fact that he wasn’t particularly engaged in political subjects.

“I want someone to think about that stuff,” she said. “There was no curiosity coming from his side… People prove who they are, actions speak louder than words. You can say anything you want, but show me. That would’ve changed everything if he really showed priority.”

The clip of Carton walking out on Mezzenga has gone viral on the Right — with MAGA influencers roasting Carton for throwing away a good relationship over politics, and claiming Mezzenga will be better off without her.
