Jemele Hill guest co-hosted The View today and made it clear to Meghan McCain she absolutely stands by her tweet calling President Trump a white supremacist.
McCain said she’s tweeted things “in the heat of the moment” too and asked Hill if she stands by what she said. She also asked her if she thinks “Trump’s supporters are white supremacists.”
“I still stand by what I said,” Hill responded. “I don’t think that his supporters are white supremacists. What I would say, though, is that they have the privilege, the benefit of privilege, to be able to distance and disassociate themselves from certain issues.”
McCain brought up Trump’s HUD secretary, Ben Carson, and asked if he’s a white supremacist.
Hill shot back that he of course wasn’t, but McCain countered that her tweet also said Trump is surrounded by white supremacists.
Hill said she wasn’t talking about all the people in the administration, remarking that it’s pretty clear who she was talking about (i.e. Steve Bannon).
