Sarah Sanders Confronted at Briefing Over 2017 Check Trump Wrote to Michael Cohen

During today’s White House press briefing, CBS News’ Paula Reid confronted Press Secretary Sarah Sanders over why President Donald Trump wrote Michael Cohen checks as president.

Cohen shared copies of two checks to Congress for his recent testimony.

Reid asked Sanders, “Why did the president write a check to Michael Cohen for $35,000 in August of 2017 while he was here in the White House? What was the money for?… He specifically accused the president of engaging in a conspiracy to conceal campaign finance violations. He presented the check.”

“The president’s been clear there wasn’t a campaign violation,” Sanders said.

Reid pointed out how the president’s story has changed. Sanders referred her back to the president’s comments and to his outside counsel

“This is something he did during his time in the White House,” Reid responded.
