Sarah Huckabee Sanders faced questions today about new reports suggesting that President Trump personally enunciated his son’s initial, misleading statement about his meeting with a Russian lawyer last year.
When asked if Trump was trying to change the narrative about how his campaign was promised dirt on Hillary Clinton, Sanders stated that “there’s no inaccuracy in the statement,” and that “the president weighed in as any father would based on the limited information that he had.” Sanders continued to face questions on this topic, and she insisted that the president never dictated Trump Jr.’s statement, but simply “offered suggestions like any father would do.”
Eventually, Sanders went off on a tangent where she ripped the media for perpetuating a “false narrative” and a “phony scandal” about Trump and Russia. Sanders bemoaned how Trump Jr.’s meeting was of no consequence in the end, yet the media doesn’t want to talk about how the Clinton family and other Democrats have “colluded” with Russia.
“You want to create a narrative that doesn’t exist,” Sanders proclaimed at the end of her soliloquy.
As a reminder, Trump lawyer Jay Sekulow has profusely denied that the president had anything to do with the statement his son offered up at first.
