Shepard Smith Smacks Down Fox Viewers Who Say Flynn Didn’t Lie: ‘Find Something Defensible’
Fox News anchor Shepard Smith spent a good portion of his show covering the latest developments in the Michael Flynn story, but took a moment toward the end of his show to tell his viewers that they should stop insisting Flynn didn’t lie to the FBI.
Flynn was back in the news Friday afternoon because special counsel Robert Mueller released a rebuttal to the Flynn defense team’s sentencing memo, challenging the suggestion that Flynn may not have been aware that his FBI interview carried criminal penalties for lying.
On Friday afternoon’s edition of Shepard Smith Reporting, Smith spent much of the hour discussing these developments, as well as Trump’s other recent legal woes.
But just before one of his commercial breaks, Smith had a message for his viewers.
“I’ve been reading from some of you, ‘Flynn didn’t lie, stop it, stop it’,” Smith said, imitating an agitated viewer.
Then, he delivered a harsh dose of reality, telling viewers to “Find something defensible. That’s not it. The president said he lied. The vice president said he lied. Robert Mueller said he lied. Incoming press secretary said he lied. FBI said he lied. He lied. Now we’ll see what happens.”
If only it were this simple to get Trump’s defenders to wake up and smell the facts.
