Stephen Miller Criticizes House Republican For Wearing IDF Garb in Congress: ‘You Do Not Wear a Foreign Military Uniform’ At the Capitol

Former Donald Trump adviser Stephen Miller chided Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) for wearing an Israel Defense Forces uniform in Congress on Friday – and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) for displaying a Palestinian flag outside her congressional office.

Mast, a U.S. Army veteran who served as a volunteer with the IDF, wore the latter’s uniform in a show of solidarity with Israel after last week’s terrorist attacks in the country that killed more than 1,300. While speaking with reporters, he referenced Tlaib, who has been criticized of late for the Palestinian flag that remains outside her office after she began displaying it earlier in the year.

“Tlaib’s got her flag, I’ve got my uniform,” he said.

On Friday’s episode of The Ingraham Angle, guest host Will Cain asked Miller for his reaction:

CAIN: We spent time this week – I’m sure everyone did – pointing out Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who had a Palestinian flag outside of her office while serving in Congress for the United States of America. But at the same time, Congressman Brian Mast – Republican from Florida – this was today, who served very honorably for this country and gave both of his legs and I deeply respect Brian Mast. But he also served with the IDF. And today, in our halls of Congress, he wore the uniform of the IDF on the other hand.

You’re the founder of America First Legal. And I think that’s a very legitimate question for everyone to be asking at home. What serves America’s interests first? How do you look at these situations with our elected representatives?

MILLER: Well, to me that’s a very clear one. I have endless respect and endless admiration like you do for Brian Mast, his service and what he’s done for our country.

But clearly, you cannot and you do not wear a foreign military uniform, regardless of whether they’re a partner or ally of the United States into the halls of Congress. You don’t do it. You also do not fly foreign flags within our halls of government. If you are a U.S. government official, you do not wear foreign flags. The only circumstance where you would, would be on a particular event with another head of state where you’re doing some maybe bilateral ceremony where it’s been done traditionally for many decades. But outside of very narrow circumstances, you do not wear foreign flags or foreign paraphernalia as an American government official.

Cain agreed.

“Absolutely right,” he said. “Seems fairly obvious and [an] easy bar to cross that you are elected to serve the people of America, first. Stephen, you put it wonderfully.”
