Trump Mocks GOP Rep. Mark Sanford’s Affair at Rally: ‘He Likes Flamingo Dancers From Argentina’

President Donald Trump took aim at Rep. Mark Sanford — the outgoing South Carolina Republican — at his rally in Ohio Saturday night, mocking his affair with an Argentinian journalist.

Trump’s feud with Sanford is well established: the day of Sanford’s primary election, the president endorsed his opponent, Rep. Katie Arrington, who ended up defeating the incumbent.

The president brought that endorsement up during his Ohio rally. “We endorsed her,” Trump boasted. “And she beat a man that likes flamingo dancers from Argentina.”

“He was supposed to be vacationing on the Tallahassee trail, but he was actually in Argentina,” Trump said.

That’s a reference to a scandal from 2009 in which Sanford, the governor, disappeared for days, claiming he was hiking the Appalachian Trail. He later confessed that he was actually pursuing an affair with an Argentinian journalist.
