Trump Stands by Call to Reinstate Russia in G-7: ‘Some People Like the Idea’

President Trump today stood by his call to reinstate Russia in the group of industrialized nations known as the G-7.

It was the G-8 until Russia was kicked out over the annexation of Crimea, but yesterday Trump said the decision should be reversed.

In comments at the summit this morning, Trump said, “It has been discussed. Some people like the idea of bringing Russia back in.”

He said that “something happened a while ago” without going into much detail, before continuing:

“I think it would be an asset to have Russia back in. I think it would be good for the world, I think it would be good for Russia, I think it would be good for the United States, I think it would be good for all the countries of the current G-7… We’re looking for peace in the world, we’re not looking to play games.”
