Chelsea Clinton Is Getting Married: A Short History (SLIDESHOW)

Chelsea Clinton is getting married this weekend, something which has lead me to wonder whether Chelsea Clinton’s wedding is the new Shark Week. How else to explain the level of attention being devoted to a woman whose major public achievement has been managing to stay out of the harsh spotlight that has been focused on her family for the past 20 years. To be clear, all things considered, this was no small achievement.

Michael Wolff thinks all the hoopla is part of the nation’s buyer’s remorse over President Barack Obama: “Hillary is the do-over and if-only choice. That’s the wedding dynamic: This is the official celebration of the once and future Clintons.”

I suspect it has more to do with the nation’s weariness over political stories involving the economy, race, war, and Tea Parties. Sometimes it’s just nice to see someone happy. And when that person is someone you have, even from a great distance, watched grow up, even better. Chelsea is set to get married this weekend in Rhinebeck, New York. This may be why everyone is so interested in Chelsea, she's been in the national spotlight since she was a sweet, awkward young pre-teen. In the tumultuous Clinton years that followed often felt like she was the one redeeming quality about her parents.

It’s called freedom of choice. The free market. Capitalism. Yes, I think it’s all a bit tacky, but with all the hell people put Chelsea through, particularly Lard Limbaugh, I hope she enjoys it all.

I have to say kudos to Bill and Hillary for raising a fine young woman. For all your public faults, you have been very good parents. Chelsea never vandalized public property, she didn’t drop out of school, she didn’t get knocked up before she got married.

My point King is that Hillary rails against such excesses by claiming that “the rich don’t pay their fair share” or Obama claims that cruise ships throw away more food then Port-a-prince sees in a day.

I agree that a free individual should be able to do what they want with the money they have. But she’s completely a hypocrite. You and I both know Chelsy isn’t paying for this wedding. Please show me where I claimed Chelsy did any of those thing.

Congrats to Chelsea. It can’t have been easy with those two as parents, living under a microscope, and in the press. Luckily she was relatively shielded. She seems like a great young lady. It was great to see her step out during the campaign.

And seriously, after all she went through, during the Monica years, she deserves a $2M wedding! haha

For once, I agree with you.

The key to all of this, as I noted above. She had parents involved in her life. I’m not sure how Bill and Hillary managed this, but they deserve to be patted on their respective backs.
