Chris Matthews Asks Why Every Single ‘Tea Bagger’ Is White?

video

A big story for the coming year is not just the mid-term election, but how the growing Tea Party movement will affect the elections. MSNBC host Chris Matthews did his best to explore this issue, but revealed more about both his ignorance on the matter and his bias towards the group (derisively referring to them as “teabaggers.”) Of course, he was likely speaking in hyperbole – but that doesn’t make it less insensitive to those who are a part of the Tea Party movement.

Text of the discussion (h/t Newsbusters:)

McKinnon: they are the movement — movements are about people that are angry at the institution and the establishment. so, yes, they’re republicans. they’re people who are out of power, they’re unhappy and the t.e.a. party’s become the vessel through which they’re fueling their anger.

Matthews: And they’re monochromatic right?

McKinnon: Well I don’t know that they’re monochromatic?

Matthews: They’re not? Every picture I see shows them to be.

McKinnon: Well there’s a lot of people out there that cuts across a lot of demographics who feel disenfranchised.

Matthews: But not that other demographic.

McKinnon: The other demographic?

Matthews: Meaning they’re all white. All of them, every single one of them is white.

McKinnon: I think that’s, I think that’s a fair characterization, predominately.

Matthews: Yeah well what’s tha about?

Tweety hit the nail on the head with this one. Now what do you suppose that tells us about the teabaggers?? By the way Mark McKinnon is one of the good guys.

  • The Real Royal King

Mark McKinnon is, indeed, a good guy. Intelligent. Reasonable. His characterization of the Teabaggers speaks volumes.

I would like to know why all of the msnbc c*ck suckers* are white?

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3096434/ns/msnbc_tv

In the words of Tingles, they’re all white. All of them, every single one of them is white.

And it is a flat out lie that all Tea Party people are white. And for what it’s worth, people of all color are welcome – if African Americans choose not to attend tea parties (the remaining 97% who voted for Obama) that says more about them than the people who are attending tea parties.

*someone calling someone a ball sucker deserves to be called a c*ck sucker.

Two minutes on google, and I found these. I know there were many more, but this is just to prove what a liar and a tool Tingles is.

Here, here, here, here, here, here. and here and here.

“MSNBC host Chris Matthews did his best to explore this issue,”

His best… still not that great.

To answer Chris’s question… why are all the pictures HE sees of White people? Because he works for MSNBC, and when it comes to anti-Obama/tea-party rallies, they crop out minorities.

  • roxsteady

First of all Tamron Hall is not white and she’s on MSNBC at 3pm each day with David Shuster. Second, the reason that most African Americans don’t attend these teabagger rallies is because they’re better educated when it comes to the issues. They know that after 8 years of Bush, we’ve all received a tax cut. When Bush was in office the tax cuts went to the rich who were supposed to create jobs through that whole “trickle down economics bullshit from their fabled hero Ronnie Raygun who, actually trippled the deficit. They also know that Medicare is a govt program and would look stupid holding a sign that reads “Tell the Govt to keep it’s hands off my Medicare” And finally, African Americans would be stupid to join these white power rallies because they’re one of the many minority groups that these ignorant saltines hate the most. While we’re working hard, studying and getting into good schools, the teabaggers are bitching about wanting their country back. The Hispanic population will over take them in another 30 years and there’s nothing they can do about it. Gusss what Teabaggers? You’re not getting your country back.

Their own rationale answers their question. If they wish to imply that the tea-party movement is racially tinged then it stands to (their) reason that they all disapprove of Obama because of race. Therefore blacks must approve of Obama because he is the same color as themselves, and if all blacks approve of his policies then blacks would not attend the tea parties, ergo the tea-parties are “all white”.

  • same2u

    Chris Mathews,

It is same reason you won’t find too many blacks watching Fox News.

  • The Real Royal King

I love the way the Teabaggers are so disingenuous about this sensitive subject, and the way FOX, the Propaganda Ministry for the Teabaggers, works so hard to explain this away. Fact is, a Teabagger rally is merely a Klan rally, without the flames. Why would any African American attend. If I were African American, I would be fearful of showing up.

    Huh? So what?

“Complaining about Bush is all I know how to do! I can’t actually talk about the issues. Bush GRRRRRRRRR”

I paraphrased that last part for you, Roxy.

And finally, African Americans would be stupid to join these white power rallies because they’re one of the many minority groups that these ignorant saltines hate the most.

Even though there’s evidence that there ARE Blacks in the crowd? Even though there is NO evidence that these groups are racist? Ah, alright… just making stuff up again. Got it.

PS- “saltines” is a racial slur. Why are YOU a racist, Roxy?

You’re not getting your country back.

Yeah… that’s not quite what the polls say.

    same2u says:
    January 6, 2010 at 11:04 am

Ah, good. More “I’ll talk demographics, without actually having any!”

Should I bother asking you for statistical evidence? Nah… you don’t have any… we already know.

    The Real Royal King says:
    January 6, 2010 at 11:11 am

And yet, there are photos of Blacks at the rallies. How shocking! Or not.

Oh, and why are the folks on the right “so sensitive” about this? Well, because you’re implying they’re racist, and you don’t have any evidence to back it up. In fact, you ignore evidence or lie. See… that’s the real problem… you’re lying. And while being a liar is okay for you, Same, Roxy, and Matthews… I don’t think it’s something you should be proud of.

  • http://www.nukethefridge.com MartiniShark

Disingenuous? People get together to protest legislation, show contempt for out of control spending, alert representitives that do not represent their views and leaders who are constatly expandingn their own power base, and they get labeled for engaging in democracy.

Those who discuss issues and become accused by opponents of racism when it never applies is the very definition of disingenuous.

  • Snipzor

The word that should be used here is plurality, for reasons of aesthetic please and also to avoid the whole blanket statement arguments. I don’t think all teabaggers are white, just that 99% of them are. I also believe that you don’t see many black Americans there, is simply due to the racist minority that happens to be within the plurality of the teabagger movement. Minorities like Dale Robertson… founder of teaparty.org who was seen carrying a sign using the n-word in exactly the way you would think…

Okay bad example, but the point is this. Nobody is claiming that everyone in the teabagger “movement” is a racist, only that there is a minority within this majority of stupid that are using this “movement” to showcase their racism. As opposed to doing what they are actually meant to do, which is represent Fox News who pretty much sponsors these events.

  • Zakk

I question, who is actually watch MSNBC? White, Black, whoever…

  • The Real Royal King

Snipzor, I think you may well have hit the nail on the head. There are clearly racist (anti-African American) Teabaggers. In all probability, they are the minority. However, they are a vocal minority and a visual minority. Banners abound at these rallies. As a Southerner, I see in amongst the Teabaggers the progeny of that same group that pulled its children out of public schools and enrolled them in hastily formed, poorly performing, lily white fundamentalist Christian schools in the 1960′s. It is this same group who were the front-line troops in the Republican Revolution in the South. This group is now trying to hold onto political power tenaciously, ruthlessly as a changing demographic tide (race, ethnicity and education) pulls them out to sea. It is also this same group to which FOX has appealed and still tries to appeal, via Ailes, so far despite Murdoch’s efforts to mainstream the network. In this on-going tug-of-war, the victor will undoubtedly be the New South, perhaps sooner than the Crackers expect, and, I suspect Murdoch. If Ailes prevails, FOX fails.

  • Facebook User

McKinnon is a Gramscian fool, whether he knows it or not. As for the tea parties, they simply aren’t smart enough to deal with Matthews’ claim in the correct fashion. Instead, they repeat his smear and give time to far-left concepts. Of course, about the only argument the Dems/MSNBC can come up with against the “parties” is to play the race card, which shows how intellectually lacking and corrupt they are. If the Dems weren’t almost as low as the “partiers”, they could turn most Americans against them very easily; see the link.

Here’s a hint: if most leaders of the “parties” had their way, “socialistic” things like SocSec wouldn’t exist. Tell the 35% or whatever that has a favorable opinion of the “parties” that the leaders of that movement would take away their SocSec if they could and see what they say.

  • pyrope

As usual, Chris Matthews is wrong. I attended the rally in DC and saw what I believe to be a representative number of African-Americans and people of Hispanic extraction at the rally. In fact, I saw numerous African-Americans and Hispanics taking leadership roles in the speeches and protesting the actions of liberals even more vociferously than most. One sign carried by an African-American particularly caught my eye. It read: “Obama makes me ashamed to be black.”

What a lot of liberals cannot fathom is that not all minorities enjoy being suckered in by the freebies they provide through the confiscation of the wealth of the achievers–I would venture to say that the vast majority of minorities crave independence and personal freedom in equal measure to their caucasian brothers and sisters.

  • The Real Royal King

    Thanks, Pyrope. I enjoy fiction.

  • Nachi

The “reason” is mainly because white people are primarily the most culpably ignorant members of our society. That’s hardly a new concept. The alcoholic BushDrunk years have merely brought more cockroaches out in the open light. They need to be eradicated.

  • J Baustian

A few months ago, MSNBC personalities got all concerned about a photo showing that someone took an assault rifle to a Tea Party event. Of course they cropped the photo, because the uncropped image showed that the many carrying that rifle was black.

So at least one black man has attended a Tea Party.

I don’t know if Chris Matthews tries to dumb it down for the TV audience, or if he’s really that stupid. But his intentional ignorance gets real old, real fast. (I speak as one who, at one time, watched his show every day; but now it’s been several years since I watched him or anything else on that cursed network.)

  • http://www.uselessbeauty.com Vidiot

I believe the fuss was because somebody outside a presidential speech was carrying an assault rifle, not because someone at a tea party event was carrying one. Not to say that there isn’t an overlap between people protesting Obama at tea party rallies and people protesting Obama at speeches he gives, but I’m pretty sure we heard more about this because the assault rifle was outside a Presidential event.

  • Tater Salad

I’m wondering whether Chris Mathews still has that “tingly feeling” running up his leg or maybe it was “running down his leg”????? Either way, he’s still on the short end of the ratings game. Maybe he and Olbermann could team up in a tennis match with: Olbermann & Mathews against Obama & Jennings (czar – who likes tingly feelings). Afterwards, they all could have a beer together and talk about the future of a socialistic country.

The real problem is that we don’t know who’s who, and who’s telling the truth. You can point to a few racist loons at these protests… but don’t forget that there have been a few situations where the offensive protester, turned out to be a Democratic supporter “pretending”… or the case where a tea partier was supposed to have vandalized a Dem HQ, but it turned out to be a leftwinger.

So your assumptions may not be as easy as they seem.

    Vidiot says:

The problem was that on MSNBC (as I linked to above), they did a whole discussion on whether the protest was racist AND potential violent. They showed people with guns, but when the video came to the Black guy with a gun, they edited it out… purposely… because it didn’t fit with the race spin they were pushing. It was all very obvious… they had their narrative, and he didn’t fit into it.

  • Tater Salad

Latinos and Africa-Americans are joining the conservative movement in record numbers as we speak. Why? They do not want socialism in this country. Obama has gone to far left and embraces Marxism and the Cloward/Pevins type of loons. People are waking up to this “Bait & Switch” BS that Obama is doing. Yes, the Republicans have made their fair share of mistakes but they are not selling the country to the Hugo Chavez’s and European socialist countries while apologizing at the same time. Enough said! 2010 will be the start of a flip in the Senate and House.

  • Capri

Obviously Mathews is a gutter-minded racist. People should stop with the idiotics that is race-baiting, and that obscene tea-b****** term. Yes, the left does plant fake far-right extremists, make up hoaxes, call stupid dirty names, do everything they can to keep racism alive. Disgusting and idiotic, NBC should be ashamed.

    1. Thank you, Nachi, for illustrating what I wrote in the Stephen A. Smith thread:

maybe you can progress to the point where you’ll question why it’s so wrong for black people to criticize other black people when all white liberals do is “hate themselves”! Chris Matthews is pasty as a ghost, Garofalo is at least half-Italian, and Olbermann’s father is (gasp!) German — but none of them can stand those eeeevil white people! They have a coronary when they see thousands of them gathering at the Tea Party events! They state without irony their fears that the Ku Klux Klan will be revived! And Christopher Columbus, the British Empire, the Pilgrims, the founding fathers of America, the trailblazing pioneers, etc. — they’re the classic villains of the progressive movement.

Why is it OK for whites to pile all over other white people, but I can’t voice my disgust that every other “WANTED” mug shot shown on the evening news is potentially a distant cousin?

The alcoholic BushDrunk years have merely brought more cockroaches out in the open light. They need to be eradicated.

How dare you! What kind of genocidal statement is that? …. Ooops, I almost forgot. If you were talking about a minority, that would be bad. But you’re talking about white people. Never mind. Carry on.

  • tjl

We’ve been through this, Smithee, you are not “black.” You are a self-loathing dark skinned man who does not do black people justice. You can have my skin color if it means you stop hating black people. Fair?

. . . and the Matthews-method has worked to perfection. This meme has denigrated into a race-bait flame war and the issues – which the tea-party movement has been based on – are forgotten by the roadside. MSNBC traffics in this because it saves them from having to go dig into real journalism.

  • Fidoohki

    *shakes head*

Back on topic. Chris Matthews has really went downhill in the past two years. There was
a time he was almost watchable.. now it is just idiocy like this. Sad.

  • ImNotBlue

    tjl says:

Well… I’m calling you a racist… because you’re a racist. The fact that you can accuse Smithee of being: “are a self-loathing dark skinned man who does not do black people justice.” Because he doesn’t agree with what you think Black people should agree with… is racist.

You’re pretty disgusting… you should have learned that by now… but if I have to keep reminding you, I will. I’m giving like that.

    _______

Oh, and here’s some more EVIDENCE (you know, that thing that posters on the left seem to fear) proving that Matthews is, once again, wrong and insulting:

Black Tea Partiers Rip Chris Matthews for “Monochromatic” Remark

Washington, DC: On the January 5 edition of his MSNBC program “Hardball,” Chris Matthews claimed that everyone participating in tea party rallies such as the one held in Washington, D.C. on September 12, 2009 were white.

In a discussion with Mark McKinnon of the Daily Beast and Susan Page of USA Today, Matthews said: “And they’re monochromatic, right?… Meaning they’re all white. All of them — every single one of them — is white.”
Members of the Project 21 black leadership disagree. They were there.

Bob Parks, a Project 21 member from Virginia, said: “Here’s a news flash for Chris Matthews. I was there. So was my son. Last time I checked, both of us are black — and we weren’t the only black people there. I know other black people who attended the September 12 rally in Washington, including some of the ones who spoke at the podium! I guess the MSNBC camera people missed them.”

    http://www.cdobs.com/archive/syndicated/black-tea-partiers-rip-chris-matthews-for-monochromatic-remark,112098

Now folks like tjl will say that these people aren’t “Black” either, because they don’t fit into the box he believes minorities should stay locked in. Apparently, he believes that Blacks are unable to make up their own minds, so white-tjl needs to tell them what to think. And if they don’t… well, we’ve seen the things he’ll say.

Anyway… this just goes to show how wrong Matthews was… again. I’ll be waiting for the apology.

ImNotBlue, those examples don’t actually work when you see Obama being compared to Hitler in every protest, by multiple people. Simply stating they are “liberal plants” is quite pathetic on your part. So is the second example, but that’s because it is linked to Michelle Malkin, and she uses a strawman argument in this instance.

Let me also remind you, the guy carrying the racist sign was a freaking Teabagger leader. I doubt he was planted there from the start (It’s a conspiracy). Blaming all the shitheads from your crowd to be plants from liberals is absolutely thick of you. Besides, everyone knows the counter-protesters within the protests are only admired when they come up with signs like “This sign is the brownest thing on the block” or “I’m a right-wing lunatic”.

  • http://www.nukethefridge.com MartiniShark

Snipzor, what you gloss over is that for 8 years Bush was labeled and depicted as Hitler, and there was little outrage from media outlets. Suddenly the fallback argument of any unthinking rager has become unacceptably racist. Look at how people were bent out of shape that Obama was shown as The Joker on inner city posters, but when Vanity Fair did the same thing years back it was clever and insightful.

If President Obama is supposed to be insulated from common criticism because of his color that is in fact racism.

ImNotBlue, those examples don’t actually work when you see Obama being compared to Hitler in every protest, by multiple people.

Well… yes they do work. I’m not denying that there are inappropriate people with foolish signs (although, that’s nothing new… although the left only recently decided it was wrong)… however, it’s pretty obvious that there are people on the left who think that they can disrupt protests by “pretending” to be protesters and acting foolish. That’s been documented… that’s the point.

Simply stating they are “liberal plants” is quite pathetic on your part.

    Even though there is evidence.

So is the second example, but that’s because it is linked to Michelle Malkin, and she uses a strawman argument in this instance.

How does she use a strawman? The Democratic HQ in Denver WAS vandalized… Democrats DID accuse Republicans of doing it… and the person arrested IS a committed Obama supporter who was did it in an attempt to portray the opposition as violent! All off that is documented, and liked to in the story. It has nothing to do with Malkin or her opinions… rather the links and evidence provided.

Blaming all the sh****ds from your crowd to be plants from liberals is absolutely thick of you.

Wow… someone’s getting angry! Yeah, but saying that all the “sh****ds” are racists is equally thick… plus, I never said they were ALL plants, rather that there is evidence of SOME being plants. And I’ve proven that, thank you.

You should also look at my more recent link… it proves beyond a doubt that Matthews was wrong and should issue an apology.
