Guilty! Rep. Charles Rangel Convicted Of Ethics Violations

video

Rep. Charles Rangel was just found guilty of 11 of the 13 ethics violation charges by the House ethics committee. For over two years Rangel has denied charges these charges, and made some news yesterday by removing himself from the hearings. Rangel is alleged to have not paid taxes on his vacation villa in the Dominican Republic, among other charges, and its not yet clear what the next step is in these proceedings: reprimand or censure are reported to be the most likely scenario.

Make him stand on the Capitol steps and hold a sign that says “I’m a crook”.

Everyone that voted guilty is a racist.

  • RobDavis

Not surprising. One piece of garbage thrown out, I hope.

AND what does this say about those who RE-ELECTED HIM?

Like MOST Democrats – WHAT Ethics?

I DOUBT his “punishment” will amount to more than a slap on the wrist.

They MAY not even prevent him from sitting on committees.

I ALSO wonder WHY the Ethics Committee conducts its discussions IN SECRET? They are OUR employees – discussing the ACTIONS of OUR member of Congress while WE pay their salaries! Yet, we’re told that it’s NONE OF OUR BUSINESS? Bull Crap!

Democrat Rep. Charles Rangel represents everything that is wrong with congress. Pelosi promised us she would drain the swamp. Drain the swamp.

One of the reasons I disliked her. No follow through. Course it could be said of many of them.

This must have been really hard for this commission to find a fellow colleague guilty of ethics violations that half of Congress is guilty of? Anything involving ethics, or criminal activity should be handled by politician-free board of citizens. Letting the inmates run the mental institution on issues of that involve ethics or criminal activity, which most ethics violation are about, is ridiculous!

So folks what should his punishment be? A scolding? Removal from office? Really, after all is said and done, he was reelected even under this cloud. He had the nerve to go before the panel yesterday saying he needed more time, that he had not put together a defense fund.

How moronic does that sound, a sitting congressman, unable to pay his bills, has been a congressman for decades, surely he knows the rules, and says he cannot continue without council. I applaud the panel for continuing their task at hand.

If you had an employee like the congressman, would you continue to employ him? OK voters have, and as one has said, what does that say about his constituents, but what will it say about his fellow congressmen and women?

I do not care who is in the wrong, if you have violated ethics by your company or congress, the investigation should be swift and punishment equally swift.

“Draining of the Swamp” made for excellent copy when Pelosi made the remark, but has she lived up to her word?

So, the toothless tiger that is the ethics committee has found Rangel guilty. They will do no more than cackle like crows–which is nothing.

Maybe if they let him stay in office something good can come of it. Use his influence to get Congress to pass the Fair Tax( H.R. 25 ). Tell him if it passes and becomes law he won’t ever have to file a tax return again and no one can ever be charged for not filing correctly.

I know. This never happens to republicans. Just ask Jack Abramoff.

  • CosmosDan

I’m disappointed the Dems didn’t pressure him to retire and not run again.

“Pelosi promised us she would drain the swamp. ”

“One of the reasons I disliked her. No follow through. ”

The Ethics committee was strengthened under Pelosi and the Dems – despite resistance from the Repubs (surprise) and, frankly, some Dems. They played no favorites with Rangel and appear to have treated him fairly.

    It’s R-a-n-g-e-l . . . and a fair comparison to DeLay and Nixon.

“Gordo can’t you find that part of your brain that thinks? ”

Too late. The cat snagged it.

Yeah, the “innocent until proven guilty” mob. Hang the bastard NOW and decide his guilt later. Works in Texas – except for the occasional innocent execution victim.

Your crystal ball is cracked. So’s your pot.

The ethics committee was “toothless” UNTIL Pelosi and the Dems gave it some needed dental work. Rangel was removed from the chair of the Ways and Means committee by Pelosi when the charges emerged. Losing such a powerful position was significant in itself. Further sanctions are almost certain.

There actually was pressure on him to retire. He should’ve done so.

A sad coda to what could have been a worthy legacy.

And yet Rangel has more inner decency & honesty than 98% of the Repug rancid masses.

You complete moron. Did you not read the article above? It read, in part:
