Jon Stewart Defends Stephen Colbert’s Congressional Testimony

video

Late last week Stephen Colbert testified in character to a congressional sub-committee on the plight of migrant workers. He also sparked a debate on whether his testimony mocked the legislative process or the legislative process was deservedly mocked. Oh, and he also brought enormous attention to the hearing, and so too, the plight of the migrant worker. Not surprisingly, the majority of Colbert’s critics came from those who most benefit from taking congress seriously. Last night Jon Stewart mocked their indignation.

Stewart opened the segment by reminding his audience of how “comedian” Stephen Colbert “ruined” congress. He then focused his attention on the numerous critics of Colbert’s appearance, ending with Steny Hoyer claiming that the testimony “was an embarrassment to Mr. Colbert more than the House.” Stewart exasperated “of course Colbert is more embarrassed than the House of Representatives,” adding “Colbert still has dignity and integrity left to lose.”

Stewart made more astute points in defense of his fellow Comedy Central-man, but perhaps none more astute than when he highligted the one actual audible laugh comedian Colbert got from the room. Finishing up his testimony, Colbert added “I trust that following my testimony both sides will work together on this issue in the best interest of the American people as you always do.” After laughs subsided, Stewart added “see it’s funny cause it’s sad.”

    It’s “…a travesty of a mockery of a sham …”.

A tremendous service to all mankind, y’all. NOBODY KNEW.

    Thank you Stephen O’Rei…er, Colbert.

Really, we should run those clips over and over and over again. Think of the migrant worker, people!

Jon Stewart is the only guy that would make fun of you, and you would thank him for it. He knows how to be funny.I guess he sees how Cornbert fell flat on his ass in Congress and wants to help this poor fledgling court jester. Kind of like when you see a cat flattened on the road and is still alive. You don’t know whether to pick it up or just drop a rock on it and put it out of its misery…

The fox news blonde lady reading Colbert’s joke was priceless. I could not stop laughing. I hope Congress passes the migrant farm bill but I doubt it because they hardly pass anything with substance. Stewart and Colbert are awesome.

I am thinking of them and I want them and their illegal alien families to go home. Come back the legal way if you’re so inclined.

Colbert is now getting the scorn he always reserves for the right, Stewart will be next after the rally disaster coming this Saturday.

Well of course Stewart is going to defend him. The Colbert Report is produced by Jon Stewart’s production company, Busboy Productions.

Let me guess, Glen Beck’s must be Redneck Productions.

Sorry to inform you that wasnt a punchline, that is the production company’s name, go look it up. Way to be over the top defensive of your political hero, the comedian.

Better to have a smart comedian than a clinically insane douche bag like Glen Beck.

Mercury Radio Arts. Why would a DJ from Washington state be a redneck?

    Gretchen Carlson

I thought it was EVEN MORE funny when she read it!

But generally speaking who is allowed to be a celebrity expert? The FNC has celebrities on speaking about political issues, so it isn’t just left-wing celebrities offering “celebrity expertise.”

“Oh, and he also brought enormous attention to the hearing, and so too, the plight of the migrant worker”

To the hearing, yes, but only because he was there. To the migrant worker, no, because everyone focused on the silly way he delivered his testimony.

Stephen Colbert didn’t really add anything pertinent to the topic the commitee hearing was supposed to be about: Citizenship for migrant workers which is not going to happen as they love their homelands and travel-back home every Christmas and stay for the month of January also if they are part of the legal temporary farmworkers program.

Stephen Colbert has joined the “Immigrant Rights” groups in trying to change the image of the illegals in front of the Television News cameras in another attempt to fool the American People, Click Article Link:

Yep, he chose his integrity over his career. He risked being scorned to expose the truthyness of our flawed policies. In this case being ostracized is considered an honorable discharge.
