Martha Stewart Weddings Features Blogger as Part of First Gay Couple
Congratulations to Good As You blogger Jeremy Hooper and his husband, Andrew Shulman, who are the first same-sex couple featured in Martha Stewart Weddings. The guys are featured in the Winter 2010 edition of Martha’s wedding edition, according to a Dec. 20 tweet by Hooper who announced: “It’s official: This writer and his husband are first same-sex couple in Martha Stewart Weddings mag.”
Hooper and Shulman married in June 2009 in Litchfield Hills, Conn. and have known about the magazine premier since August. Here are more pics from the wedding. Each table at the wedding had a different theme–including a Dukes of Hazard table–and the secular ceremony included Jewish traditions. And of course, according to the story, they included their dog as the “pooch of honor.”
Hooper started G-A-Y in 2005 with the goal to “unapologetically challenge the anti-gay rhetoric that keeps LGBT people confined to the margins of society” and “inject a fresh, new, irreverent approach into the world of gay activism.”
On being part of the first same-sex couple featured in Martha’s wedding publication, Hooper said on his blog:
We’re humbled and honored to have been deemed “good thing”-y enough to grace this mass market mag’s pages. It’s one time you won’t hear us complain about our love being turned into an issue.
Our full equality: Today Martha, tomorrow Congressional Quarterly?
