Meghan McCain On This Week: Christine O’Donnell “Seen As A Nutjob”
Meghan McCain just provided a nice, bloggy, shot in the arm to today’s Sunday show line-up. McCain was a panelist on today’s This Week roundtable (along with Terry Moran, Matthew Dowd, and a sort of skeptical-looking George Will) and she did not pull any punches when it came to voicing her opinion on Christine O’Donnell and the Tea Party movement. Actually, she called O’Donnell a ‘nutjob.’
“Well, I speak as a 26-year-old woman and my problem is that, no matter what, Christine O’Donnell is making a mockery of running for public office…She has no real history, no real success in any kind of business….[the message] that sends to my generation is: one day you can just wake and run for Senate, no matter how [much of] a lack of experience you have. And it scares for me for a lot of reasons. I just know, in my group of friends, it turns people off because she’s seen as a nutjob.”
Indeed. I think one could aptly describe that as actual straight talk, possibly of the ‘dirty, sexy’ kind. I also think McCain is quickly positioning herself as one of the few people in the Conservative party willing to call bullsh*t on Sarah Palin element of the GOP. Political careers were built on far less. I’ll post the clip as soon as it becomes available (update: added below). Meanwhile, one imagines Chris Coons would probably do well to pull that soundbite and put it in some sort of ad aimed at voters under 30.
