Sarah Palin On Hannity: Hand Notes Are A “Poor Man’s Teleprompter”

video

Clever lady: before anyone could bring up that potentially embarrassing incident several weeks ago when Sarah Palin was caught with a cheat-sheet written on her hand during her speech during a Tea Party convention, the former governor brought it up herself during the Sean Hannity interview, calling it “a poor man’s teleprompter.” Which is an obvious dig at Barack Obama, who she’s previously criticized for using. Except…doesn’t that just make her a poor man’s version of Obama?

“Except…doesn’t that just make her a poor man’s version of Obama?”

I can see this as just a silly snarky throwaway insult. My question is: Why?

What deeper, if there is anything more than a dig here, point are you trying to make?

  • MrGlennBovineKoldys

Instead of just keeping quiet and hoping nobody else remembers the embarrassing incident, Moose Boogers brings it up again to embarrass herself and Sean KKKlownnity.

Great job. Looks even better on a resume.

  • Grammie

    Thanks, Patsy!

Isn’t it cute how far lefties like to spell stuff with a ‘K’? Gosh, us evil conservatives are really wounded by that. Stop! Stop! You’re killing us!!! Hee, hee.

  • the real john t

Palin rants about Obama using a teleprompter and there she is writing stuff on her hand. Plus the RW like to bring up Obama’s teleprompter all the time. What important story is that. Every President used them. If that’s all they’ve got to ridicule Obama on, then they have nothing.

  • sueNaustin

I agree with Grammie in a way about the dig at calling Mrs. Palin a poor man’s version of Obama.

However, this is Palin’s preemptive attempt to deflect her using crib notes for a friendly Q&A to President Obama’s use of a teleprompter for prepared (at many times complex) speeches. But evidently this disingenuous tactic of hers works quite well for the targeted audience.

But the article was a cheap shot both ways: Drew Grant at Sarah Palin and, of course as usual, Sarah Palin at Barack Obama.

Sarah Palin began using teleprompters quite a long time ago in her sports broadcasting days (probably long before Obama had the opportunity to use them). Also, do we really need to find out who was the true poor person between the 2 of them at any given time?

  • the real john t

Every modern day President used them

  • writer

According to legend, Lincoln’s teleprompter was on the back of a shovel.

  • Grammie

Sue, although I would still like to have Drew’s own explanation you have shown me the error of my ways.

Shocking that Sarah Palin would use such an unheard of nefarious trick to deflect criticism by getting in front of the pitchforks. What respectable politician would ever do such a thing. I guess she is a rogue and will blaze new paths of trickery! :)

That line represents a significant amount of the total post so I assume it must mean something. What?

  • writer

Grammie, your post would have been better if on words such as ‘like’ or ‘shocking’ you stuck in ‘KKK’ where the Ks go. Lots more shockkk value.

  • Grammie

That’s exactly what prompted me to begin calling Olbermann KOKOKlown or KKK for short.

That’s not my normal style but I got so ticked off with Koldys Kulture Klub crap and such like I started it myself with a shout out to our resident cree; No need to name call so I’ll leave it at that. :)

  • writer

The sad thing is, lots of ‘em like Royal actually think words like ‘club’ are spelled ‘klub’. They’re not trying to be funny.

  • sueNaustin

Grammie, the notes on the palm was not a “nefarious trick” — it was her explanation of it on Mr. Hannity’s show that was the “disingenuous … preemptive … tactic” — thanks for reinforcing how it worked for her audience.

Crib notes vs teleprompters is a bit more fresh, but already it is closely reaching its stale date for laughs or ridicule.

However, I do hope you enjoy Drew’s explanation.

  • Olby Sucks

Looks even better on a resume.

How would a “computer programmer” know?

  • writer

While watching Obama, Chris Matthews uses his hands and….no, too easy. I’m not going to do it.

  • Grammie

Ohhhhhhh, he’s not going to like that, Writer.

He is so anxious that we all wonder and marvel that an obviously sophisticated, highly cultured, urbane intellectual such as himself graces us with his presence. I’ve had four years and I could tell all his stories for him and he could just stay home and just admire himself.

  • Grammie

I’m obviously losing my ability to write b/c I was referring to her preemption in the entire paragraph.

    Sorry I wasn’t clear.

Now, where is Drew’s explanation? I missed it.

  • sueNaustin

Grammie, I am waiting to see if he writes one, too. It was meant for something for you to look forward to.

But I think your ability to write is just fine — I think mine is the one that is obviously out of sync with most of the regulars here. I will try to learn.

  • Grammie

FYI, I read on another thread that Drew wrote and commented on that he is a she.

    Thanks.

  • writer

Out of the loop. Who’s Drew?

  • MrGlennBovineKoldys

Did you clowns look at the video?

It is Moose Boogers, you idiots, in her own words, referring to her stupidity as “a poor man’s teleprompter.”

She stuck her hooves again into her trap. All her doing. AGAIN.

    GOT THAT?

And you clowns look even better trying to defend such stupidity.

Well see, you’re wanting one of those people that are always wanting others to retract their statement or admit they made a mistake. But it doesn’t apply to them. Nosireeee.

  • MrGlennBovineKoldys

    Hagzilla,

    Here is the deal.

Admit you f-ed up royally and then I can’t use your own stupidity against yourself.

You don’t have to apologize to me. I am saving that one for later.

Just admit you did a Moose Boogers so we can move forward to your apology.

    Thank$ Patsy!

The story is that he relies on it too much, and doesn’t actually know what he’s talking about… rather he’s the “Reader-In-Chief,” not actually the “thinker.”

But I’m sure you already knew that.

    Moose Boogers

I gotta admit… “Moose Boogers” is a pretty funny name!

Of course, it would be funnier if I were 8… but to each his own, I suppose.

  • MrGlennBovineKoldys

    Sorry Hagzilla,

    Why are you thanking me?

It must be because I am stern yet a fair sheepherder of misguided Fox gNOpig loving dumb animals.

Now, let’s talk about your problem. Not your alcohol abuse. The other problem. Pat Buchanan.

  • Grammie

    Thank$, Pats$!

  • MrGlennBovineKoldys

I see the Koldys Komedy Klowns have jumped the fence.

Does Marky know you sheep are here to defend KKKlownnity and Moose Boogers?

Don’t worry, Klowns. I won’t tell Marky you are more interested in POLITICS than his crappy Fox gNOpig defender site.

  • Grammie

    Thanks, Pat$y!!

  • MrGlennBovineKoldys

    “Reader-In-Chief”

    Oh, that’s a knee-slapper!

Considering Moose Boogers crossed out what she first wrote on her palm-promter.

She couldn’t even remember a FEW WORDS! The main talking points of her stupid speech.

    ROFLMAO!

  • the real john t

    @ MrGlennBovineKoldys

Don’t you just love it when they use a name Olby Sucks came up with. You know, the guy that likes to go on liberal sites and highjack people’s names and make a complete ass of himself. Kind of shows what kind of character those people have.

  • MrGlennBovineKoldys

Actually Jeffy Bovine is too stupid to even come up with something original.

He lifts and regurgitates BS from Wing Nut Daily, Dr. Weiners, the FReepers, and *surprise* Mark Koldys.

Did I mention Mark Koldys writes little commentary of his own for his crappers, er, blog and just links to other people’s work, sometimes even rewriting headlines to get his six sheep into a frenzy?

  • Grammie

    Thanks Patsy!!!

  • MrGlennBovineKoldys

    I’m off to bed.

    Hagzilla,

May the lord bestow upon you hundreds of times what you and Jeffy Merrill have said of Keith Olbermann.

  • Grammie

    Thanks Patsy!!!!!

  • Tommy Christopher

I think Drew was pointing out the dissonance in Palin’s wisecrack.

  • Cubby

Uh, yeah – you’d think that would be obvious. As easy as it is to make digs at Palin, Drew’s comment was clearly pointing out what her choice of words actually meant. Not everyone in the Evil Liberal Media Establishment is out to make Palin look like a simpleton – she does a perfectly good job of that on her own.

  • roxsteady

Keep digging granny! Your pathetic attempts are just that. If you kid got busted writing on their hand in school what would happen? Palin is an idiot. There’s no way around it. After whoring herself and family selling books I doubt that she’s poor. She’s an intellectual lightweight who could never be President. I think even the baggers have finally figured it out. Go home Sarah. Your other daughters are hurtling towards estrace.

  • roxsteady

Sorry, that if your kid! I don’t speak hillbilly and I sure has hell don’t write it!

  • roxsteady

    Sorry, that’s if your kid!

  • roxsteady

Oh, and speaking of Hannity, why do people watch this bullshit?

“Hannity pushes Reagan anti-”socialized medicine” clip, ignores that Reagan was criticizing Medicare”

Now, this is from our friends at Media Matters but, don’t get your knickers in a twist. I just want to know if the people watching him knew that Regan was talking about Medicare? I doubt it and that’s the point. Hannity wants you to believe Regan was against healthcare reform which is BS. He was against Medicare. I suspect that oldsters who are Republicans and Conservatives and are on Medicare would not be thrilled with Ronnie Raygun if they knew this. Which is why Hannity didn’t tell them that the clip he played of Raygun was about Medicare. The whole point is to keep their ignorant audience ignorant. Mission Accomplished!

  • http://www.nukethefridge.com MartiniShark

The larger point that is not getting addressed is, if Palin is somehow a dolt for jotting a few last second lines on her hand why is the President not a bigger dolt for being unable to speak fluently without his teleprompter? His overreliance on that machine is reaching embarassing levels. He cannot provide a simple introduction of a few seconds without having it scrolled before him. You can call her moronic all you want, but this is the same President who was unable to recognize he was reading an incorrect speech last year and ended up thanking himself for being invited to the White House. If this proves her intellectual shortcomings what does it say about Obama?

  • MrGlennBovineKoldys

    AlkyGuppie

Come back after the gin wears off.

Moose Boogers was speaking to KKKlownnity last night without pressure, without a palm-promter and she managed to make a dumbass out of herself. AGAIN.

And President Obama has proved, time and time again, his ability and knowledge of issues to handle gNOpigs on the spot and send them whining.

  • writer

    In all fifty seven states.

  • MrGlennBovineKoldys

  • http://www.nukethefridge.com MartiniShark

. . .-and President Obama has proved, time and time again, his ability and knowledge of issues to handle gNOpigs on the spot and send them whining

Like he did at that conference yesterday? He did not even know the elements contained in his own bill. Every time Republicans made a valid point Obama had to interrupt them and condemn their use of the Dems own words as being political. He even admonished one for bringing a copy of the health bill as a publicity stunt. He was clearly shown as the one doing the whining.

  • writer

It’s odd. A lot of the left wing posters get absolutely vicious, but when called on it they always say “Look at Limbaugh.” So, are they saying they agree with Limbaugh doing it? Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I guess.

  • MrGlennBovineKoldys

    AlkyGuppie

    Yes. I saw that.

I saw President Obama repeatedly reading off the teleprompter and the palm-prompter.

    Did you? You must have.

  • TfT

MartiniShark: The funny part (or at least one of them) was when Obama called the health care bill brought into the room “a prop”! What a riot; it’s what he supports and he calls it a prop.

Did you see the video of him picking his nose during the summit?

  • MrGlennBovineKoldys

Are you sure you are in the correct thread?

This is the Moose Boogers and her stupidity thread.

  • http://www.nukethefridge.com MartiniShark

I loved how every network gradually started drifting away from coverage when they saw how bad the Dems were looking on camera. Had to love Obama leaning on his hand like a bored grade-schooler when he was being called out on the details of the bill.

But he’s a brilliant mind and a great orator — take their word for it, do not believen your eyes and ears based on the evidence.

  • http://debunkerhill.com CatM

There’s a bit of irony in Palin saying she was using a “poor man’s teleprompter” as she prepared to give a speech for which she was being paid $100,000 in Tea Party donations.

Not to mention, the crib notes were for the Q&A, not the speech, as we all saw in the video of the Q&A where she looks down at her hand. I have yet to see President Obama use a teleprompter to answer questions from the press, whereas Palin needed her “poor man’s teleprompter” to answer pre-screened questions.

In college, we call it cheating to write notes on your hand that will be used when answering the questions.

  • Grammie

CatM, I remember a presser (?) at the WH in which BHO had an over sized teleprompter placed out straight ahead of the podium out into an area that would normally be viewer seating.

Anyone else have a more concise memory about it than mine?

  • http://debunkerhill.com CatM

Grammie, having read several of your comments on this thread, I’d trust your memory about as much as I’d trust Sarah Palin’s. Maybe you should have written it down on your hand.

  • http://debunkerhill.com CatM

By the way, I figured out what you are talking about. You are talking about the fact that he has teleprompters at some of the press conferences for giving his opening statements. The teleprompters are not used for answering questions.

Further, unlike Sarah Palin, he has held several town halls that (1) did not require the audience to submit questions ahead of time; and (2) allowed the media to attend. He has also given many interviews to a variety of media sources, unlike Sarah Palin who–after her terrible disasters without her “poor man’s teleprompter” –will now only give them to softball interviews on Fox and also requires prescreened questions.

I also suspect that if Obama did need a “poor man’s teleprompter,” he wouldn’t need to write the word “change” on his hand, for example, to remember it. He’d probably write something a bit more difficult to remember, like a numerical statistic. Sarah Palin couldn’t even get her crib notes right and had to cross off “budget” and replace it with “tax” for cuts. Budget cuts and tax cuts are nothing alike.

Of course, having seen Sarah Palin speak without memorizing her comments first, one can understand why she only takes prepared questions. “What do you like to read, Sarah?” “Uh, everything.” Man, what a gotcha question that was, to ask someone what they read.

  • Nachi

And ol’ “Hoss” would know about “Poor Men.”

  • Olby Sucks

Wouldn’t 0 have to actually take questions from the press before he could be accused of using a totus?

  • writer

The real town halls, where people get angry, are dismissed as right wing racist rantings. At Obama’s town halls, he gets hardball questions such as ‘Why are you so great?”

  • http://debunkerhill.com CatM

Let me guess, writer, you don’t actually watch Obama’s town halls? Probably not, because I don’t think Fox “News” carries them. This is a question he took at a Montana town hall:

One man who identified himself as a proud National Rifle Association supporter and believer in the Constitution asked how the government would pay to expand health insurance coverage to 46 million uninsured people. “You can’t tell us how you’re going to pay for this,” said the questioner, Randy Rathie, a welder from Ekalaka, Montana. “The only way you’re going to get the money is to raise our taxes. That’s the only way you can do that.”

Here’s one at an ABC News forum from a neurologist, who complained about how “elites” handle healthcare:

Devinsky asked the president pointedly if he would be willing to promise that he wouldn’t seek such extraordinary help for his wife or daughters if they became sick and the public plan he’s proposing limited the tests or treatment they can get.

    From New Hampshire:

So here it is, the Medicaid that you guys are administering and you’re telling me that it’s good — but in essence, I’m dealing with the same thing, and you’re telling me the insurance companies are doing.

    Another from NH:

There’s a lot of misinformation about how we’re going to pay for this health care plan. And I’m wondering how we’re going to do this without raising the taxes on the middle class, because I don’t want the burden to fall on my parents, and also I’m a college student so –

    And another:

I’m very, very concerned about the elderly. I don’t know if this is also correct, but I understand that a federal health board will sit in judgment of medical procedures and protocols to impose guidelines on all providers — when to withhold certain types of care — like, what is the point you get to when we say, I’m sorry that this cannot happen.

Maybe you should read Mediaite more? They talked about this in 2009:

    http://www.mediaite.com/tv/fox-decides-then-reports-coverage-of-obama-town-hall-clearly-unfair/

Obama gets asked hard, non-prescreened questions all the time from non-prescreened audiences, and he answers them fine, without teleprompters or palms.
