Soundbite: Americans Are Stupid And (Thanks To FOX) Misinformed

Absolutely amazing poll results from CNN today about the $787 [billion] stimulus package: nearly three out of four Americans think the money has been wasted. On second thought, they may be right: it’s been wasted on them.”

Snap! Time’s Joe Klein opines on where the stimulus money was really wasted. He goes on:

So, two thoughts:

1. The Obama Administration has done a terrible job explaining the stimulus package to the American people…especially since there have been very few documented cases of waste so far.

2. This is yet further evidence that Americans are flagrantly ill-informed…and, for those watching Fox News, misinformed.

Conclusion?

It is very difficult to have a democracy without citizens. It is impossible to be a citizen if you don’t make an effort to understand the most basic activities of your government. It is very difficult to thrive in an increasingly competitive world if you’re a nation of dodos.

Perhaps President Obama should consider enlisting Klein to pen Wednesday’s State of the Union…it would certainly make for interesting listening.

Just don’t call Joe Klein “elitist,” even though it’s obvious he has contempt for the “average American,” and thinks he’s much better than they are. Oy vey… talk about ego.

Klein statement is a textbook definition of an elitist: Someone who refuses to say, “Perhaps I’m wrong,” and instead says, “It must be everyone else,”… and looks down his nose upon those who disagree. Your disagreement isn’t acceptable… his opinion is right, and anyone who doesn’t fall in lockstep is stupid.

Poor poor Joe Klein… the only one who cares what he has to say, is himself.

Two hours east of Pittsburgh, [the John Murtha—Johnstown Cambria County Airport] averages just 20 passengers a day. But its namesake, Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., a powerful and controversial member of the House Appropriations Committee, has steered some $150 million to the airport over the years. That includes $30 million for never-used capability to handle huge military aircraft and store gear for rapid deployment.

The airport also received $800,000 in stimulus funds.

Maybe Joe klein would approve of we idiots going to more vaunted news sources to exercise our think-muscles, then we might purge this idea of wasteful stimulus spending out of our skulls.

Oh, and perhaps even Joe Biden

Of course it would be folly to suggest that this might have started off on the wrong foot in the first place when they desided to market the stimulus package with a branding of the bill and even a new logo.

Lets see; how many fake congressional districts were identified on the government’s site as having received stim $$; how many non-existent zip codes were identified on the government’s site as having received stim $$?

And Klein doesn’t even mention them in his article?

I think I might change the sentence to read:

“It is very difficult to thrive in an increasingly competitive world if you’re a nation with journalistic nincompoops”.

I would point Joe Klein and others who have a serious interest in tracking Stimulus performance over to Propublica.org. (non-profit news org used by WaPo / NYT etc)

They have dedicated reporters tracking stimulus performance:

    Ongoing Stimulus Performance Tracking

    And Bailout Performance:

    Bailout(s) Report Cards

Nice that Joe Klein can opine and would accept generally public “mis-informed” on stimulus, but there’s plenty of detail that supports why the public should mad and impatient on how the stimulus package has performed.

CNN also aired a program this weekend (may have done earlier) with large panel (strategists, economist, financial reporters) that did not overwhelmingly draw a favorable picture on how efficient the stimulus package has performed along with reasons for long term downsides.

Amen, Glynnis. Bring him on. Obama is already doing just what David Plouffe said McCain would be done had he selected Mitt Romney as his VP: “[D]oubling down on out of touch.” Getting an pseudo-intellectual elitist like Klein to cement Obama’s baseless arrogance in the minds of the American public will be the death stroke to his Presidency.

IMHO, Joe Klein’s taking Obama’s plummeting popularity personally because he was the first MSM figure to champion him as The Next President while everyone was conceding Hillary was going to cruise into the Oval Office.

    Oh, my lord…

Was Glynnis MacNicol previously the campaign strategist for Martha Coakley?

Well I had a post with at least half a dozen links to more approved sources of information, but it is awaiting moderation. Suffice that much more than FOX has provided information about the wasteful aspects of the stimulous money. So would that make me less stupid in Joe’s eyes, or would CBS News, Mother Jones, and Joe biden (and others) then be considered stupid?

    Educated,” Glynnis?

When are you going to read the U. S. Constitution…
where it declares us to be a “Republic?”

Or, listen when you sing (say what?) our national anthem.

So, after having tanked in the ratings for months on end, the only way for Fox News competitors to make a splash is through outlandishness and sensationalism–kind of like KISS and Alice Cooper really; not really very talented but they “looked” different, and that was enough for their impressionable followers to latch on. All that MSNBC, CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC, NPR, and the other losers in the ratings can hope for, is that their non-thinking, non-reasoning minions, comprised of the so-called “progressives” and other factions of the lunatic fringe and enemies of the United States and haters of conservative values, can be salved with increasing portions of lies and hate rhetoric.

As for the “State of the Onion” to be delivered this Wednesday, I would love to see Joe Wilson give the Republican response–at least we could count on Joe to REALLY tell it like it is.

    Hey look! I actually read a Time’s article/blog/whatever!
