The Most No-Brainer Ad Of The Midterms So Far: David Vitter Has Women’s ‘Issues’
What does Louisiana Sen. David Vitter have to do to lose his Senate seat? His reelection campaign so far had enjoyed a relatively positive campaign from his opponent, Democratic Rep. Charlie Melancon until yesterday, when the Melancon campaign launched a website, “SeriousSins.com,” to point out a few minor problems Vitter has had to deal with during his tenure. Yes, he means the prostitutes.
The website deftly notes the scandal– in which Vitter had to admit to frequently employing the services of the DC madam and some similar New Orleans businesses– while simultaneously playing it down, touting the slogan, “His ‘serious sin’ isn’t even his worst.” Worse than the prostitutes? The fact that he keeps in his employ in the women’s issues department of his office a man with a domestic abuse record and has voted against legislation guaranteeing women equal pay for equal work.
Below is the accompanying ad for the website. It plays on some major religious subtext (Louisiana is a fairly strong catholic enclave) while being an overtly feminist ad– a difficult combination to find, but given Vitter’s past, the only shocking thing is that it took this long for someone to take advantage of his ethical weaknesses.
