There’s Definitely “Something You Should Know” About Local TV Anchor And Email Spy Larry Mendte

Over the weekend, while watching the Mets-Yankees game on WPIX in New York, a promo for local TV newsman Larry Mendte ran – and it brought back all the memories of the reason he was fired from his Philly anchor gig.

For the past few months Mendte has been producing commentaries, and they’re amazing in their own unique Ron Burgundy way.

The promo (below) tells viewers there’s “something you should know” about Mendte – which they follow by saying, “He’ll make you angry, he’ll make you laugh, but he’ll always make you think.”

But if you don’t know, there’s maybe something else you should know about Mendte. You see, he had a very successful anchor career in Philadelphia, before he plead guilty to spying on his co-anchors emails. But not just any co-anchor – Alycia Lane, who has her own interesting history. Oh, but he didn’t just spy on her emails. He had a “flirtatious, unprofessional and improper relationship,” with her – at least according to Mendte. (The email spying was due to a “long mutually destructive feud.”)

Anyway, now you know a little more about Mendte. He’s no longer anchoring, but instead doing commentaries that air in New York and a few other markets. And honestly – they are unbelievable. It’s the perfect cross-section of highbrow and lowbrow, dramatic camera movement and bizarre graphics.

Below the promo, watch last Monday’s take on Pres. Obama’s BP oil spill speech, filmed on the shores of…New York:

AMAZING:

Honestly, we’re going to make this a regular feature.
