I’m not so sure I agree with Mr. Schieffer about this. It seems to me that the Bash Obama campaign at FOX, which began when it was clear that the Drop Out Governor had dashed any hopes, however slim, McCain might win, starting about 1 October 2008, is in large part responsible for this. The FOX racists, xenophobes and bigots, beginning with the Douchey and Gretchen O’Van Karlson and continuing through Greta O’Van Susteren, cynically and maliciously assumed that labeling President Obama a Muslim would have the effect of slurring and slandering him, and piled it on thick. Breitbart, Drudge and other xenophobic and racists internet sites, and Lard Limbaugh, O’Beckerhead and O’Hannity radio sites contributed as well. Yes, the internet played a part, but, in my opinion, FOX was the leader of the pack and remains so in this sordid, devious tactic.

Bob Scheiffer is an “old school” journalist that came-up through the system of high school and college English teachers grading every aspect of his writing and then the “News Editors” of the newspapers he worked for before he started working for CBS doing the same thing.

Many of the oldtimers are appalled that the Internet and Facebook allows everybody to “publish” their own “newspaper” (Sarah Palin for example) if they have the time, or hire somebody to do it for them like many celebrities do.

That so many Americans think that President Obama is a Muslim is not surprising considering that he spoke in favor of “Freedom of religion for Muslims” at a White House “Ramadan dinner.”

Meanwhile, the U.S. State Department is continuing to bring thousands of Middle Easterners to be “resettled” in the U.S. as “Political Asylum” refugees. If even a small percentage of them have the desire to inflict mass casualities on New Yorkers in a crowded Times Square on a Saturday night they are disaster waiting to happen:

*sigh* Even though he’s right, the truth of the internet is that it’s a purely free marketplace, and anyone can post whatever they want, and if it’s like millions of websites out there, people will never see it. The thing is people need to learn to source materials, and not just trust something they see in font on a screen. E-mails can be lies, as can websites, and many here would claim traditional media is, and I wouldn’t take anything you see as clear fact unless you can get multiple sources to confirm it.

If Obama wants me to think of him as a Christian then he should act like one instead of being such a Muslim lover. What is this crap about covering the cross at Georgetown University? greg, I think part of the confusion comes from the crossover. Trumpet, the magazine run by the daughter of Obama’s former pastor, gave an award to the leader of the Nation of Islam. Her dad and the leader are tight, so mistaking one for the other is understandable.

Funny thing about ‘spellcheck’… an ‘s’ added to the end of a word like racist is still technically a correctly spelled word, even if not appropriate for the context of the sentence.

Whether it’s a ‘typo’ or just a good ol’ fashioned grammatical ‘mistake’ is up for TRRK to clarify.

Good Lord (and I DO mean THE Lord). Since when do others get to question us or “take us at our word” regarding our faith? What is this another inquisition? My relationship with God is none of your business. It is the most vital, important, intimate and private thing in my life. Keep your sticky fingers out of my spirituality. But, if you do insist on “inquiring,” please ask the pseudo-christian hate mongers like Tom Emmer or his buddies in “you can run” whether or not they are actually Christian. They want the destruction, even murder, of American Citizens who are not like them (YCR states this disgusting belief openly… Emmer simply donates to them). How is it that this evil became one of the public “faces” of my faith? As a devout, life-long, Christian I resent this speculation about, Obama’s or anyone’s love of God and/or acceptance of Christ as their saviour. That’s between them and their maker (and I am certain He doesn’t like meddling fools). Most (the VAST majority of) Muslims are not the real “bogey man” here. I am far more leery of my fellow Christian, “grand inquisitors” who set themselves up to take the measure of another person’s relationship with God. My own ancestors were Quaker martyrs, whose only crime was standing up to puritans who objected to resistance and the Quaker belief that the light of God exists in everyone… and that we should try to see it. The Baptists (I was baptized in a Four-Square Baptist Church almost 40 years ago) hate the Catholics, the Catholics hate the gays as do the Mormons (and they hate each other more), Methodists don’t accept them, the “peace churches” are a threat to the control of the “party line” of the church in general, fundamentalists (of every variety and faith hate everyone different from themselves) …. oh yeah and ALL Muslims are against America (making a joke here folks). first of all, bob s is right. the web has no editor. the users are the editors … the only medium where that is true. which is why we get such interesting reading! and which will inevitably force the web to change drastically in the future.

Just so that everyone can put this whole conversation to bed, let us never forget that Chuck Todd (of NBC) reminds us constantly that Obama gets his daily prayers in email or tweets. Now, that is investigative journalism if I ever saw it. I presume that since we now the WH emails MSNBC hosts directly (as stated on air by Mika) we must assume that Obama has shared these daily devotionals he gets on his blackberry every day with Chuck todd himself.

What other way would Todd know about this, and be able to verify it as a factual report?

I doubt Schieffer even knows how to use a computer let alone knows anything about the internet. It is time to put this dodo out to pasture along with his buddy Larry King.
