The news that the doctor that helped the CIA find Osama Bin Laden has been sentenced to decades in prison for helping America out by Pakistani authorities had Bill O’Reilly incensed today, his “Talking Points Memo” dedicated to making the point that if America doesn’t help its informants overseas, the country won’t be able count on people helping us in the War on Terror. To argue that point, Rep.s Peter King and Dennis Kucinich assessed the Obama administration’s response.

During Wednesday evening’s edition of CBS’ Late Night with David Letterman, Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly sat down for an interview that touched upon Dick Cheney, the 2012 election, and — like last week’s Letterman interview with Brian Williams — whether the president will receive more credit for his accomplishments.

Watching the prim, polished Rachel Maddow show as it exists today– MSNBC’s flagship– it’s hard to recall the days Rachel Maddow was a radio host first and foremost, with some gigs on TV on the side. Her first regular stint on national television was on The Situation with Tucker Carlson– a news opinion program that preceded both Wolf Blitzer‘s The Situation Room and Jersey Shore‘s Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, and eventually became simply Tucker, giving way to a series of programs before ceding the 9PM MSNBC spot to Maddow herself.

The struggle to catch Osama Bin Laden has been a long time coming for many CIA counter-terror agents, and on 60 Minutes last night, one former official explained to Lara Logan the frustrating process of targeting and finding Bin Laden in Afghanistan in 1999, barely taking precautions to cover himself, and receiving only bureaucratic obstacles from the Clinton White House when asking for authorization to kill him.

During Tuesday night’s edition of The Daily Show, host Jon Stewart called out the Republicans’ “cognitive dissonance” over the killing of Osama bin Laden and the taxpayer-funded bailout of GM and Chrysler.

“Cognitive dissonance,” explained Stewart, “is when you hold two contradictory ideas in your mind, at the same time.” Lately, the comedian contends, it seems like Republicans have been able to square away the opposing ideas in their head.

Fox News host Megyn Kelly hosted former Bush administration Attorney General Michael Mukasey on Tuesday to discuss a recently released Central Intelligence Agency memo that identified an admiral in command of the 2011 raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan. Some have interpreted the memo as being intended to shift blame from President Barack Obama in the event that the raid resulted in failure. Mukasey said that “I’ve never seen or heard of anything like it.” He compared Obama’s message to Americans on the night of bin Laden’s death to those of past U.S. wartime commanders and concluded “big difference.”

Earlier today, we reported on The Daily Caller‘s publication of a script for a Saturday Night Live sketch that was scratched from this weekend’s show, a post that carried the heavy implication that the decision was politically motivated. Since then, we’ve contacted the writer of that sketch, Jim Downey, who tells us that he actually sent the script to Daily Caller publisher Tucker Carlson prior to Saturday’s show, and insists there were no politics behind the decision to scratch the bit.

On Monday afternoon, the Associated Press tweeted that the Central Intelligence Agency foiled an attempted terror attack by Al Qaeda agents against an inbound passenger jet.

This week’s Saturday Night Live cold-open featured a parody of Fox News’ morning infotainment offering Fox and Friends, but according to Tucker Carlson‘s Daily Caller, that wasn’t always the plan. Someone leaked a script for an alternate opener, in which Fred Armisen‘s President Obama addresses the nation about the anniversary of the raid that killed Osama bin Laden. Although The DC says it’s “unclear” why the sketch was cut, leaking it to an anti-Obama website sends a pretty clear message: time for another round of election-year fine whine about the long-running comedy show.

On Saturday’s Up with Chris Hayes, eponymous host Chris Hayes discussed the “parfait of frustration” at this week’s discussion of the “politicization” of the Osama bin Laden killing. While he and his panel made proper mockery of Republican outrage (you only do a victory dance when you haven’t won, duh.), Hayes expressed a difficult-to-articulate “unease” with celebrating the terrorist leader’s killing, one which he eventually articulated very well.

Vice President Joe Biden sat down for a lengthy interview on Meet the Press today, and obviously he ended up talking about the recent hay being made over attempts by the Obama administration to use the death of Osama bin Laden to attack Mitt Romney. David Gregory asked Biden why he and the rest of the administration has been implying that Romney would not have carried out the now-infamous mission.

Presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney has taken a lot of criticism for failing to denounce the anti-gay voices that ostensibly drove openly gay advisor Richard Grenell to quit quit the campaign, Romney senior advisor Eric Fehrnstrom, appearing on Chuck Todd‘s The Daily Rundown, made a hilarious attempt to turn those lemons into lemonade by casting Romney as a warrior against intolerance.

em>Fox & Friends hosted Fox News host Geraldo Rivera on Friday to discuss the military trial of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shake Mohamed, whose original trial was postponed nearly three years ago, as well as the recently declassified Osama bin Laden documents. Rivera said he thought a civilian trial “would have been a great idea” for terrorists like KSM, to which the Fox hosts said the Obama administration’s 2009 proposal for civilian trials was “just a big waste of time.”

As we reported in March, Al Qaeda claimed that Fox News Channel was their least-favorite news outlet, for it “falls into the abyss … and lacks objectivity,” adding that they’d like to see the network “die in her anger.” I’m surprised Fox News hasn’t made promotional commercials based on the laudable distinction of being the terrorist organization’s most-hated network.

On The Colbert Report Tuesday, Stephen Colbert lashed out at President Obama for “spiking the football” about killing Osama bin Laden in a new campaign ad. “I just think that boasting that he personally killed bin Laden is un-presidential, and I’m not alone,” Colbert opined.

To no one’s surprise, on Tuesday night Jon Stewart took on the chatter surrounding the anniversary of Osama bin Laden‘s death. He shot down the outrage over President Obama‘s Osama bin Laden ad, saying Republicans would have done the same thing — and they’re just mad because they didn’t get the chance.

Piers Morgan sat down with Dan Rather on Tuesday night, discussing President Obama‘s record — and particularly his foreign policy, in light of his visit to Afghanistan. It looks like I owe an apology to the folks at The Five. After a long day of aggressive tweets about “spiking the football” from conservative bloggers, a Drudge Report headline that proudly accuses the President of “GLOATING IN AFGHANISTAN,” and reporters still asking Mitt Romney if he would have hypothetically killed Osama bin Laden in some kind of parallel universe where he was president, I expected more of the same from Fox News’ afternoon panel show. But, that’s not what I got. Instead, the show opened with a thoughtful and touching remembrance of that momentous day a yeah ago, a segment almost wholly devoid of the politics that seem to consume every waking second of an election year.
