I wish people used their words with more precision on this site.  And certainly less gratuitous insults.  To read this site, you’d think it was the Tea Party that camped out all across the country and made a statement.  I haven’t heard of an organized Tea Party event in months.  And this “Rethuglican” business.  Republicans are not thugs.  They don’t want to get their clothes dirty.  They hire thugs.  And saying these people are “evil.”  This is thrown around like confetti. Most of you have yet to see the true face of evil.  Give it time.  It will be standing right in front of you.

Why are you afraid of the word socialist ? Every progressive political party in the world but the Democrats belong to the Socialist International (including british Labour,…). Serious progressive political parties in Europe are members of the PES (Party of European Socialist). Why should the american left be afraid of this label ? Be proud to be socialists. And liberals. And progressives. Don’t let the conservative movement framing the very decent idea of a socialist society into something awful.

SOCIALIST is a word Americans don’t understand, and it does not mean the same thing in Europe as it does here. Why would you insist on using a word that people don’t understand?

I can’t believe I’m watching the MSM unravelling before our very eyes.  Matthew’s rant – is a grade school bullies attempts to belittle someone they are afraid of.  

Seriously Chris, I can’t believe you are a grown-up.  This type of insane ranting indicates that you have a problem.

Matthews is so obsessed with Gingrich’s physical appearance. He has called him ‘evil looking’ ‘nasty’ said he looks ‘like a car bomber’ What gives? 

Certainly, it’s not ideal, but Fox news, Breitbart, etc are way, way, way worse because they have no problem with twisting basic facts and outright lying. 

Mathews is an Obama puppy, with his nose so far up Barry’s ass if he stops short Chrissy’s head will disappear.

Liberals just don’t like a news station that reports ALL of the news.  Not just what they want to hear.  

You have to be kidding. Everyone on the Right I know tells me something like ‘I watch Fox, read Breitbart and (insert other right wing blogs) and listen to Rush. The rest is garbage. All liberal journo-list garbage. You can’t trust the NYT,” etc, etc.  

Most people I know on the Left are the opposite. Personally, I read the Financial Times, WSJ, NYT, WaPo, Economist, Guardian, New Yorker, Harper’s, The Nation, Drudge, Fox, Bloomberg and even frivolous crap like the Daily Caller. You can’t call those biased decisions. I actually read a lot from pubs I don’t agree with about issues they think are a big deal and I come to my own conclusions. In the case of Fox & pals, they are often making crap up or distorting facts. Sure, MSNBC shows inject opinion in their talking heads shows, but at least the straight news reporting isn’t as sloppy and/or deceitful as Fox’s. CNN sucks too, I know. That’s why I read rather than listen to paid pundits. I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in this when it comes to what I read and what I think of Fox “news.” 

Its funny that you claim that,  because when I hear a liberal spouting about Fox news I ask them where they get their news.  After some stammering they try to think up some good answer but they just never can.  You will forgive me for not believing that the conservatives that you know listen to Fox and Rush………however, the liberals get their news from a wide variety.  Liberals just aren’t tolerant enough to listen to anything that doesn’t fit their agenda.  That’s just the way it is.

At least you are honest in calling it what it is and what Obama is attempting to “transform” America into.

It’s true that you’ll find people on both sides of the aisle who either don’t have the time or inclination to spend much time getting their news from diverse resources. I do and some (not all) on the Left I know do too. My main point is that I see that much less on the Right. I’ve met some well informed Libertarians, but not many well formed Republicans who would, for example, support any of this year’s crop of candidates. Maybe that’s just my experience. 

Another point is that Fox news, Breitbart, etc, are clearly not  very accurate or trustworthy. I’ve spent way more time than I want to admit listening to Rush, Hannity, Michael Savage, etc and they are–every single one of them–demagogues who pretend to give you facts but instead give distortions. I’m not saying the left wing pundits and politicians don’t distort or exaggerate, but in my opinion, they do so less on the balance. 

In any case, I honestly think the best sources are mainstream newspapers, quality magazines and academic books. The stuff on cable news or the radio or on blogs is almost entirely crap, right wing or left wing.  

I agree whit Chris as far as his insider statis go’s. But af far as looks go. Chris should not say anything. Chris reminds me of that seice in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade where there in the cave looking for the holy grail.

John, you are not the only Lib, nor am I the only conservative, to read  publications or watch other channels other than what some think are in line with our political beliefs.  Millions do.  But, regardless of what you think about Fox, please tell me you are just kidding about MSNBC’s shows shooting straight.  Fox “distorts facts”, but MSNBC “Injects opinions”????  This is truly what worries me in this day and age.  How different we all hear.

I don’t have time to answer you now but if you’re slightly interested, I can give you a rundown tomorrow of things Fox has either intentionally misled viewers on or screwed up out of sheer incompetency. Two things that come to mind right now are the fact that Fox has been claiming that Justice Kagan must recuse herself from the healthcare case. For days, they post a “factoid” citing the constitutional article that backs this argument up. The only problem is: it’s not in the constitution at all. They are mis-citing a U.S. regulation passed many decades after the constitution was signed and they are spinning the meaning of it, considering legal experts of every ilk say it’s not applicable to Kagan. So why would Fox continually show this on their “news” shows? I can run through easily a dozen other examples tomorrow when I’m not about to go to sleep. Let me know if you’re interested and I will. I’m not being sarcastic. 

Now MSNBC–I’m not a big supporter, but the difference I’m pointing out is that Ed or O’Donnell will simplify things and show only one side of the story, but in most cases their facts are actually verifiable and correct. It’s opinion, certainly, and they may even only give half the story, but at least their half is truthful. I don’t like them because they are fine with “spinning” stories for political reasons, which I think is wrong. 

I never said I was the only person to read broadly. I think I even said a lot of people do. But Fox is simply not trustworthy. 

He didn’t invent it–  Kennedy and Biden did it in the Bork hearings– but he sure stoked the fire big time going after Clinton for base political reasons.  I did not vote for Clinton the first time, but he convinced my ass when he ran for re-election.  He had the economy going great guns. You couldn’t be more wrong, @seek456, socialism is not cookie cutter – the Scandanavian model works well in Sweden and other countries, and Canadian socialism is quite successful when it comes to maintaining the dignity of human existence, discredit it all you like. Canada and Sweden are extremely civilized and affluent countries. In the U.S., our socialist programs like social security and medicare are American institutions. Unemployment, disability – socialist programs are integral to a successful democracy. Stop watching Fox News and do just a little bit of research on what socialism is, and what the benefits are to America and other democracies.
