Fox’s Bret Baier: The “Dapper Rapper”

video

Get ready to knock your opinion of Fox News anchor Bret Baier up a few pegs. Perhaps a bunch.

Now we already know the guy’s been quietly racking up huge ratings wins on his weeknight show, Special Report, success that recently earned Baier a brand new contract at Fox. But here’s what we didn’t know: the kid can rap. No wonder they’re calling the pocket-square-wearing anchor the “Dapper Rapper.”

Yup. At the Bob Hope Classic in Palm Springs on Friday, Baier ended up onstage, and explained to the crowd (a few equipped with video cameras) that he was invited to perform. Saying he didn’t know anything but Sugarhill Gang’s 1979 hit “Rapper’s Delight,” he got an unexpected response: Do it.

And he did. And while we had the headline BAIER DESTROYS REPUTATION WITH CRINGETASTIC RAP PERFORMANCE headline ready to go, we must admit he nailed it. Watch it for yourself and see if you don’t agree:

We should not that at the end of the performance Baier did advise the crowd not to tell anyone what they’d just witnessed. So, you know, this has to stay between us, okay? Mum’s the word.

MC Rove, you been served! Baier in the hizzouse!

  • BatBoy

He hosts one of the Best Hours on TV!

I try to catch him every day…especially the round table!

As a Rapper…it was pretty good, but I hope he keeps his day job!

  • The Real Royal King

I laughed. I cried. It became a part of me.

  • Harry Flashman

He had some fun. Good for him.

I was sure Dick Cheney would be the one to release a rap song being that he’s the one with the street cred.

  • TangledThorns

    Hehe, cool.

Best comment of the thread. I don’t care WHAT your political stripe, that was FUN! Hell, I’d give some props myself if someone like Joe Biden or Harry Reid did that. Fun and music have no political affiliation. Any sourpusses here on this are just that – sourpusses.

Rhythm, flair and debonair in one word – Baier.

  • Gasket

That was actually pretty cool. From a HipHop fan I give him a B for that performance.

Ed, I though he did it very well with it and I don’t like rap but I listen to the whole thing and I enjoyed it. I do agree that it was very funny.

I always thought he was Ok since I do watch Special Report often but after seeing that video, I have a totally different perspective on Bret and its a good on

  • Drew

I meant “Good One” not “good On” sorry for the typo

  • jaywaters

@Barney Whoa, Chris Matthews speaking Japanese, that was great but this Bret rap is hilarious, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Good lesson to media folks by Baier. Make fun of yourself and everyone laughs, mock others and you’re just kind of a jerk. Nice to see he’s both a good anchor and has a sense of humor.

Funny but why is this from media matters. Didn’t know they liked Baier so much.

  • Tedderman

I thought he was rapping when he interviewed Obama he repeated himself so many times. “But what about the,But what about the, But what about the… Mr President.”
