Bret Baier Fires Back at Trump Over Post Slamming Fox News: ‘First of All…’

Fox News anchor Bret Baier rebutted President Donald Trump during Thursday’s Special Report.

As the program aired, Trump expressed displeasure with Chief Correspondent Jonathan Hunt, who, during the show, gave a straightforward report saying there are “no significant developments” in efforts to bring an end to the Iran war. Hunt noted that Trump had said earlier in the day that there are currently no talks happening between the U.S. and Iran.

“We’re not looking to meet or anything,” Trump said in a clip aired during the segment.

Hunt further reported that “Iran’s economy is being squeezed” by U.S. sanctions.

Shortly after the segment aired, Trump posted a critique on Truth Social:

Jonathan Hunt of FoxNews did a particularly inaccurate report on the Failing Islamic Republic of Iran. I don’t want to meet, they do. In fact, they are begging to make a deal. Bret Baier should straighten out his flunkies, for a change! President DJT

Later during Special Report, which airs live, Baier took a moment to address Trump’s post and noted that Hunt made no such claim that the president said he wants to meet with the Iranians. Baier read the post in its entirety and gave the following rebuttal:

First of all, Jonathan Hunt’s not a flunky. He’s a great reporter.

Second of all, Mr. President, we didn’t say you wanted to meet. In fact, we played a soundbite you didn’t want to meet and there are no negotiations. We said that Treasury Secretary Bessent is hoping to meet with G-20 countries to increase the pressure on Iran and Gulf State allies, including Qatar, are inside Tehran trying to get Iran to agree to concessions. That was what was said.

A day earlier, Trump fired off a Truth Social post declaring, “Mission Accomplished” in Iran.
