Gingrich Slams Romney: You Didn’t Become A Career Politician Because You Lost To Teddy Kennedy

video

Newt Gingrich drew audible murmurs at Saturday’s debate by hitting Mitt Romney where it hurt by saying “the only reason you didn’t become a career politician is because you lost to Teddy Kennedy in 1994.” Romney had earlier argued that Gingrich was a career politician, “Speaker Gingrich has been in government for a long time.”

“Now wait a second, wait a second!” Romney interjected.

“I’m just saying. I’m a citizen, I’ve served the country in many ways,” Gingrich added. “You’re a citizen, you’ve served the country in many ways. But it’s a bit much, you would be a 17-year career politician by now if you’d won.”

Later in the debate, Romney brought up Gingrich’s earlier jab, saying losing to Kennedy was a blessing in disguise.

“If I’d been able to get in the NFL, I’d have been a career football star.” Romney exclaimed. “…Losing to Teddy Kennedy was probably the best thing I could have done for the job I’m seeking…It put me back in the private sector.”

This was an easy dig that has somehow gone overlooked by Paul/Perry when Romney tries the “career politician” thing. Of course they couldn’t have said it with the same arrogance as Newt. He knew it was a winner.

Mitt Romney has a “smarmy/smug” problem.  He’s been the inevitable nominee for too long, and that’s gonna hurt him.

  • Hout Bosques

Gawd Mitt was bad tonight – you could smell his sweat over the Internet. It’s just cruel how easily Newt able to make Mitt soak his magic undies, time and again.

Only two chances left for Mittens: either he picks up on Bachmann’s idea and petitions the courts for a quickie name change, or it’s Borowitz time and doubles down on the “stiff” and “wooden”:

    http://www.borowitzreport.com/

Also – can the rest of us get a piece of that $10,000 action? Because Perry so should have taken that bet – it’s right in the original hardcover version of Mitt’s book that “the mandate can work for the entire nation” and it’s been removed from the Mitt 2.0 version. Mitt’s got $250 Million, so he can instantly turn 25,000 Americans $10,000 richer and start his own Mitti-stimulus.

Anyway, I ACCEPT, Mitt! I’ll be sending you my bank account number for the direct deposit.

Well at least he didn’t get kicked out of his leadership position, the congress and cheat on 2 wives.

  • Anonymous

Bring on Newt…he’s human slime, and no one wants a first lady that is an adulterer.

  • Anonymous

Too bad for Newt being a dick isn’t a qualification for being President.

  • Anonymous

He didn’t get kicked out – he resigned.

  • Anonymous

bugs you that he can think rings around you and everyone else doesn’t it?

    The guy is brilliant.

  • Anonymous

Yeah, keeps me up at night…

  • Anonymous

Oh sorry, he resigned before he was going to get kicked out.

I would like to know when one of these moderators are going to press Mitt Romney about his comments that “the auto bailout was the wrong way to go”.    I’m surprised that Lee Iacocca didn’t come out swinging on that one.
then again, a lot of you young people probably don’t even know who Lee Iacocca is.

  • us995

good night try to get some sleep

  • OSTL

you mean like half of obamas appointees have done?

  • Anonymous

Best line of the night. It’ll be fun to watch this guy spin a web that Obama will get tangled and destroyed in.

    Go Newt!

  • us995

    it’s like chappaquiddick

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_45S32GWGDRUJIL6E2U4HOZW4BM Bob

In fairness to Romney, he didn’t resign in total disgrace like serial adulterer New Gingrich.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_TWK2YYJTTIDLZIVV7NKZM23Z6Q Tyler

That was a blow to the Romney campaign.  I bet Newt will be getting a lot more attack ads in the next few weeks.

Mitt Romney gave a good answer, but he should have told Newt that his leaving Congress wasn’t really a choice either after Newt was fined $300,000 that he had to pay the IRS and the republicans voted him out of the speaker position.

Newt has the morals of an alley cat and the integrity of snake.

  • Anonymous

why don’t you tell the truth sweets.  He was found innocent by the IRS.
and he wasn’t voted out, he resigned.

Honestly, is truth so hard to handle for you?

  • Anonymous

if the auto bailouts hadn’t happened, they would all be in a healthier place.   They could have restructured and not be facing the same problems that got them in trouble in the first place.

  • Anonymous

ahhh Bob, didn’t bother you with Clinton (except he didn’t marry them, just used them).

  • Anonymous

There is just something about Romney that has always seemed snarky or desperate or something. It isn’t anything that anyone can put their finger on, it’s just part of his persona.

I cannot get fired up over Gingrich’s personal life, especially after Clinton’s serial adultery over many decades. Frankly, since the Left reveres presidents/politicians whose sexual escapades have been legion(Kennedy, FDR, Clinton,Ted Kennedy, etc.) I cannot see that Gingrich’s long-disclosed adulteries are an issue

  • http://mediamatters.org/ Leedog

The IRS may have found him inocent, but the House didn’t!! Newt had no other choice but to resighn based on Newt losing support from his fellow Republicans!!

  • Centrist79

Truth is, that he resigned when Republicans would not support him for Speaker. He lost all credibility within his own party.

  • http://mediamatters.org/ Leedog

How many jobs would have been lost?? Then of course, you would be screaming Obama killed the auto industry!! Lol!!

  • http://mediamatters.org/ Leedog

Exactly!! He was forced to resign!!

  • http://mediamatters.org/ Leedog

It was interesting to see Newt admit he was the father of the individual mandate…that Republicans hate so much!! Newt is a fraud!!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_DFXME6LBAYMFS4IECA6GZIZ52Y Goldy Puppy

News did the right thing when accused of impropriety – he resigned rather than fight.

Compare that to the lying Bill Clint who “never had sex with that woman”…

Obama will destroy Newt any time. Newt Blingrich has way too much baggage.

  • Anonymous

Conservatard meme of family values is more like hypocrisy.  But teabaggers will let it pass as long as it is their candidate.  WWJD?

  • Anonymous

Newt is just terrible and all, but that was a really good line.

One charge stuck and he had “no other choice but resign”.
Meanwhile Rangel gets convicted of 11 of 12 charges and he sticks it out.

Yup, it is indeed a mad, mad world. -wuff!

  • Anonymous

Newt took 24 hours to flip flop on his not attacking another candidate last night. He threw the first punch at Romney with the “If you hadn’t lost the election…” Newt Gingrinch – a man not only untrue to his wives, but untrue to his word.

  • Anonymous

Sorry but newt was booed loudly on this cheap shot at Romney. For a guy who coud have a real Bones program on the history channel with all his skeletons in the closet he is treading in deep deep water.

  • Anonymous

How are you a career politician because you ran for 1 Senate race?  Another stupid comment by Newt, but hailed by lesser minds as genius.

  • Anonymous

The Ethics committee dropped the remaining charges when Newt agreed to pay the fine to the IRS, and his fellow-republicans had voted him out as speaker.  He resigned on his own because he couldn’t handle not being speaker anymore.  He had no respect from his fellow republicans and if you listen carefully, you won’t hear many in congress then or now supporting him.

  • Anonymous

Clinton didn’t have as many as Newt did.  And, Clinton didn’t leave his sick wife, and get a divorce because she was sick.
You have to remember that wife #1, Jackie had cancer – so he divorced her because he was having an affair with wife #2.  Wife #2, Marianne was diagnosed with MS.  Newt began having an affair with Callista and divorced Marianne.
So much for vows like “in sickness and in health”.

  • Anonymous

I don’t know how you figure losing thousands of jobs would be “healthy” – especially if one of them was yours.

  • Anonymous

because they could have started from scratch!  They can’t afford the union contracts they have – simple really.

They renegotiate and decrease their horrific overhead and can breath.  Nobody is talking about losing thousands of jobs (except you).

p.s.  not to worry about me losing my job.  Not gonna happen (don’t need one)

  • Anonymous

OMFG – The stories get better and better.  Seriously, you make up bull shit and think you’ll be taken seriously?

Gingrich didn’t leave his sick wife.  Wife #1 didn’t have cancer – she kicked him out.

Where are you coming up with this bull crap?  Why?  You think it makes your case more believable?

Hey sistah – you had no trouble with a Pres sticking a cigar up some sweet youngs …..under the desk in the White House.  Suddenly you claim to abide by morals?  lol

  • Anonymous

bull shit sweets.  Just quit – you’re making up more and more lies that are just freaking stupid.

p.s.  Nobody dropped charges – he was cleared and the fine?? It was returned since the IRS basically said it was a freaking witch hunt from the democrats and he was cleared of ALL CHARGES!

You came late to the party and forgot to read the program but think you’re bright enough to wing it?  lol

    You flunked.

  • Anonymous

You mean like Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, pretending to be black, pretending to be a moderate, pretending to be a Christian, not knowing the difference between a corpseman and a corpsman, etc. etc. Is that the kind of baggage you mean or are you just an ignornat Obama kool-aid drinker?

  • Anonymous

Gingrich met his first wife Jackie when he was 16 years old and she was his teacher.  She paid his way through college and helped him in his political campaigns.  He began haivng an affair with Marianne and left Jackie to get a divorce to marry Marianne.  At the time, Jackie had ovarian cancer. (her cancer is now in remission).  Newt did marry Miarianne.  Then, he began having an affair with Callista.  Marianne was diagnosed with MS – Newt divorced her so he could marry Callista.
Now – that is why he needs a revolving account at Tiffany’s.  And I can guarantee you that he wasn’t sticking a cigar up any these adultress women.

I was just mentioning to my mother how the republicans have to go back to 2008 to find some verbal mistakes of the president.  We sure didn’t have to with George W Bush – now did we?  And, it appears this group of republicans are just as bad as George.
By the way, you can only dream of having someone as smart as Barack Obama.  It just kills the republican nuts like you that he is so intelligent and articulate that for over 3 years you can only point out 2 verbal gaffes.

Maybe you don’t know who Lee Iacocca is,  but at one time he was the president of Ford Motor Company  (he was the guy who brought us the ’65 Mustang, along with a lot of other winners).  Henry Ford (CEO) got mad at him and fired him.  He went to Chrysler as president and found that Chrysler was in deep, deep financial trouble right when the Shah was run out of Iran and the cost of gas skyrocketed.  Iacocca sold off a lot of stuff and did a lot of reorganization and went to US Congress asking for a $500 billion guaranteed loan to save Chrysler.
Now – to your point about the bankruptcy.  Why didn’t Chrysler just go bankrupt is the same reason the auto industry like GM couldn’t go bankrupt now.  Here is why:
Customers would not buy their cars.  They wouldn’t be guaranteed they could get parts for them if they needed repairing.  It’s that simple.

Lee Iacocca surmised the bankruptcy of Chrysler in 1983 would mean 600,000 jobs including 140,000 at Chrysler, 250,000 supplier employees, 150,000 dealer employees.  Chrysler was smaller than GM was in 2008.  1 Million jobs were on the line.
And Chrysler paid off that $500 billion loan guarantee in just 2 years.

Jackie did not have ovarian cancer when she asked Newt for a divorce – that was how many years ago?

Read the truth of this “story” from his own Daughter who was there.

As for the Tiffany account?  What the hell business is it of anyone’s where a millionaire has a revolving account?  That was the dumbest dumpster dive ever – only the democrats would go nuts over something that was nobody’s business.  Did he ask you to pay for his Tiffany account?  It was nuts – still is, and you bringing it up indicates that the little acorn has a squirrel eyeing it.

BTW – the bullshit that “we don’t have family values” so we don’t care – is crap – you care enough to keep repeating factious stories and denouncing someone while indicating “we have no values”.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/govt/leadership/stories/012297.htmThis is a pretty good summary of what happened.  I can understand how you want to rewrite history so you can support a liar, adulterer, cheater and thief, but history is not on your side’

Perhaps you should read this link and educate both yourself and your poor mother.  http://politicalhumor.about.com/od/barackobama/a/obama-isms.htm

Without his teleprompter, he is an educated idiot. If you consider him articulate, I have a bridge in the mojave desert I will sell you. FYI, I am a conservative and not a “republican nut” not that you would know the difference. If ignorance was a disability, you would qualify for a full pension.

You are delusional! According to files in the Superior Court of Carroll County, Georgia, Newt initiated the divorce and according to Jackie Gingrich, Newt LEFT HER! Furthermore, she DID have cancer and again, according to Jackie herself, Newt came to her hospital room with a notepad to “work out” the terms of the divorce. During the divorce process, Newt refused to pay alimony or child support and members of the Baptist Church in Carrollton, Georgia, took up a collection to keep the family’s utilities from being disconnected. And while his wife and children were struggling to buy groceries back in Georgia, Newt was tooling around in a chauffeured car in Washington having affairs.

Newt also cheated on Wife Number 2 and was doing so while he was condemning Bill Clinton for the Monica Lewinsky affair.

While he was still married to Jackie, Newt told L.H. Carter, that she [Jackie] wasn’t “young enough or pretty enough to be the wife of a president,” adding “And besides, she has cancer.”

Newt Gingrich is one of the sorriest excuses for a human being who ever walked the face of the earth!
