After his defeat in Nov 2012, “You Lie!” hussein will be the PERFECT star for this show – he won’t even have to act, just be himself.

It’s not a particularly crazy idea. If there was a show about a relatable Muslim family that was as popular as The Cosby Show, it would do wonders for Islamic relations in the country. Of course, now a days, no show could possibly be as popular as Cosby was in its heights.

To see if the Cosby effect still works in these days of hundreds of channels and niche audiences, lets see if the gay couple on Modern Family does anything to change the minds of its audience.

Canada already has one of these. It’s called “Little Mosque On The Prairie”. It’s actually about a little town that has both a Christian and Muslim congregation, who mostly get along.

It’s even got some actors you’d recognize but didn’t realize were Canadian. Still, I think it’d work wonders for the States as well.

Yeah, I don’t think it’s that crazy of an idea either. Perhaps in the same way that people’s attitudes towards homosexuality tend to change once they actually *know* a gay person, attitudes towards Muslims can change, too, once such individuals are given a reality check.

I didn’t ignore anything about the treatment of Jewish people. Hate crimes against them is just as despicable. The stats probably also indicate that Muslim are more likely to be victims of hate crimes than Jewish people, but that’s not even relevant to the argument. The point is: you as a Christian are far, far, far less likely to be the victim of a hate crime than a Muslim is.

Thanks for the link. If we add up the percentage of anti-Christian crimes, they account for 6.4% of the total. Muslims account for 8.7% of the total.

Christians account for 78% of the population, while Muslims account for 0.6%. Just looking at the numbers, a Muslim’s odds of being the victim of a hate crime are much, much higher than a Christian’s.

Jews have it pretty bad though. Of all religious-based hate crimes, 71.9% were anti-Jewish. This is as bad as anti-black racial-based crimes, at 71.5%

It’s interesting that Couric thinks a show based on Conservative American values would help Muslim’s with their image problem. Although, I think the problem is Radical Islam and not Muslim’s per se. According to something that happened a few years ago in our country, the guy’s daughter wouldn’t even have to date a Jew; she’d just have to want to be a normal jeans-wearing, job-after-school, American girl and her father would STILL kill her. Hey, they also kill daughters who have been raped. I’m not sure if every-single-muslim-family in this country has these attitutes but there are enough of them that I don’t think a show would be a very realistic idea. If you just look it up on the internet there have been quite a few killings lately of muslim women by their family members. This is the reason for the word ‘culture’ guys and it does differ from group to group.

Iraqi immigrant to be tried for daughter’s death

PHOENIX — A homicide case that drew attention to so-called honor killings moves into the trial phase this month for an Iraqi immigrant accused of killing his daughter because he believed she was too Westernized.

Faleh Hassan Almaleki, 50, faces life in prison if convicted. In October 2009, he slammed his Jeep into Noor Almaleki, 20, prosecutors said.

The woman, who longed to live a normal American life, laid in a coma for two weeks before succumbing to her injuries, which drew outrage from people nationwide.

Faleh Almaleki moved his family from Iraq to the Phoenix suburb of Glendale in the mid-1990s. He and Noor Almaleki had a tumultuous relationship, according to police and court records, and her close friends.

At 17, she refused to enter into an arranged marriage in Iraq, enraging her father, according to a court document filed by prosecutors.

At 19, Noor Almaleki moved into her own apartment and began working at a fast food restaurant but quit and left her new place when her parents kept showing up at her work, insisting that she return home, the document said.

Later in 2009, she moved into the home of her boyfriend and his parents, Reikan and Amal Khalaf, shortly after she showed up at their house and said her parents had hit her. Faleh Almaleki regularly harassed his daughter and the Khalafs, once telling Reikan Khalaf that if his daughter didn’t move out of their home, “something bad was going to happen,” the document said.
