Matthews: Tea Party Takes ‘Code Of Omerta’ When It Comes To Bachmann’s Ignorance

Video

In today’s episode of Chris Matthews yells at a Tea Party supporter for attempting to defend Congresswoman “balloon-head” Michele Bachmann, Phillip Dennis from the Texas Tea Party wisely did his homework and did not allow Matthews to reduce him to be “hypnotically tongue-tied” like a previous Tea Party leader. To Matthews’ credit, he actually enjoyed Dennis’ feistiness, yet still managed to get in a few digs at the Tea Party including wondering why the Tea Party has something like “the code of omerta when it comes to ignorance that’s coming out of the mouth of Michelle Bachmann.”

Matthews, along with guest Jonathan Capehart, were both still mesmerized by how Bachmann was so confused by American history. When Matthews wanted Dennis to give his thoughts about the lack of Bachmann’s knowledge, Dennis suggested although she might have misspoke, her intent was technically right. Matthews wasn’t satisfied though and demanded to know “why do you cover for this ignorance?” When Matthews repeatedly, and rapidly, asked “does she know what she is talking about,” Dennis humorously pleaded “Chris, take a breath!”

Most significant was the point Dennis made that just because Bachmann was invited to speak last night by one Tea Party group, does not mean she is the official leader for Tea Party supporters everywhere. This is probably unfortunate news for Matthews’ fans, since the more Bachmann is in the news, the more viewers get to see Matthews at his most entertaining as he so easily gets enraged whenever talking about her.

Yes, matthews is playing hardball. But its all good fun.

And cue the right saying Dennis made a fool of Matthews…

Matthews blew Dennis out of the water. His only defense was <>.
    Hilarious.

Really, when you think about it….that IS the only defense of Bachmann.

  • Bobomatic

Chris’ obsession with Bachmann leads me to believe he wants to have her child. Otherwise, Chris is unhinged over being owned by Bachmann a few months ago in an on-air interview and now he can’t let it go.

Sort of like Glen Becks obsession with Piven. And we know for a fact that Beck is unhinged, unglued and generally an overall dick.

  • chucken

Thats a cheap shot at the Tea Party guy bringing him on to bash Bachman. And Matthews like Hannity and O”Reilly needs to shut the hell up and let people with different views have a chance to finish a sentence. He is unwatchable a lot of the times.

Matthews has been “going after” Bachmann ever since she stated US representatives need to be investigated for unAmerican activities.

That was looong before any “feuds”.

    Try and keep up, mkay?

Look Sarah Palin is never going to run for President and Michele Bachman will be nothing more than a House back bencher will no real power in actually crafting legislation that is why Paul Ryan gave the GOP response. He is a serious guy who knows his stuff even if I don’t agree with him. I now pledge not to post about Palin or Bachman again! (unless of course they do something really stupid).

For anyone tuning in to Chris Matthews epilogue on Wednesday, it was a textbook example of media manipulation.

Matthews began with the analyses of the SOTU address.
He had predictable plaudits for the President’s “majestic” speech, acknowledged Paul Ryan’s “respectable” one – and then proceeded to vilify the Tea Party, his fulmination this night directed at Michelle Bachmann.

Setting the premise for the President and Ryan to be the majestic and respectable representatives on the political stage, Matthews attempts to cast Bachmann and the Tea Party as “loony tune”.
This is how petrified of the Tea Party the Progressive Left has become!

Oh, and Matthews prefaced those remarks with: “I speak in all objectivity here”; and then linked Bachmann’s SOTU response to, hold on to your seats, slavery!
This, from an NBC network host.

You just can’t make this stuff up!

The #1 sissified girlieboy on PMSnbc’s ticket, Chrissy ‘Tingles & Thrills’ Matthews seems to feel so manly by going after Michele Bachmann night after night after night until his extremely tiny TV viewership are puking their lunch. This sissified girlieboy with the little wimpy hands has some kind of weird obsession over Michele and Sarah Palin. I’m afraid this wacko nutjob is going to start stalking Michele. On a more serious side Chrissy’s obvious hatred and built up anger towards any Conservative, Independent and/or Republican or Tea Partier is going to fire up another nutjob out there and we’ll have another Tuscon, Arizona. Someone over at PMSnbc/LSDnbc really should talk to the children Chrissy, Edith Schultzie and Randy Madcow and get them to tone done their hate spewing drivel on a nightly basis. Those wackos over there are sounding more and more like a Hitler. Chrissy is so angry he is spitting all over my TV screen. That old man needs a bib. Send the idiot talking heads on PMSnbc on a long vacation and tell them to chill out before they end up with a stroke or heart attack. There is no need for the hatred coming from PMSnbc since the November Election. Get over it, the Left lost…end of story!

Chris Matthews once dealt in ideas. Now all he can muster is insults, like the other pathetic hosts on MSNBC. Too bad, this Democrats-are-smart meme doesn’t hold water. The left dug us into a $15 trillion hole, and refuse to engage in real dialogue with anyone who wants to fix their mess. Hey, lefties, if you leave us to clean your diapers, don’t cry and whine while we do it.

Someone looking at MSNBC for the first time would be appalled at how low class and childish most of the shows are.

We kind of adapt and comment about the looniness from one week or story to another, but the absolute stupidity of MSNBC is becoming more and more apparent to people.

I think we all understood the point Mrs.Backmann was trying to make. Did she put it in historical context, no, but does that in any way detract from the message. Instead of concentrating on the full intent of her speech, Matthews would rather attack her on some weak segment of her speech to try to make her appear ignorant of history and therefore, not worth listening to. Matthews, Maddow, and Olbermann are good at finding and attacking an oversight. That’s why they are in the cellar of the cable news shows. They’d rather banter about semantics than discuss the real issue.

  • a musical is not history

Dennis did his homework? What do you mean — he watched an old musical? Dennis was right to say Bachmann’s “intent was technically right”? What do you mean — he was flat-out 180-degrees wrong? Maybe you should do your homework and be “technically right” — or right in any sense — before making such statements. Excuse me, your ignorance is showing.

Dennis claimed that the original draft of the Declaration of Independence contained a clause that “banned” slavery. He also claimed that Edward Rutledge led an all-southern opposition to the supposed abolishment and forced the clause to be removed from the declaration.

    1) The clause did not “ban” slavery. It complained about King George FREEING colonial slaves in exchange for their service in the British “loyalist” army. (The musical “1776″ implies that it was an anti-slavery clause … which explains Dennis’s confusion and laughable ignorance. The clause did complain about King George vetoing attempts to put tariffs on the slave trade — an ECONOMIC not moral issue in Jefferson’s Virginia, where the slave trade was diluting the value of slaves-as-property. Georgia and South Carolina needed slaves-as-workers, and thus opposed Virginia’s proposed tariffs on slaves. So Jefferson was annoyed that the Virginia tariff was vetoed, and with florid rhetoric basically called George a hypocrite for supporting the slave trade — but that wasn’t the relevant point of the grievance.) The clause is included in the section of the Declaration concerning WAR GRIEVANCES, and its specific grievance is that, following Lord Dunmore’s Proclamation (look it up), England was granting freedom to runaway slaves who joined the army. So, as opposed to “banning” slavery, the clause complained about the FREEING of slaves.

    2) The “Rutledge” thing was made up by the creators of the musical “1776.” It is completely, 100% fictional. According to Thomas Jefferson, the clause in question was opposed by South Carolina and Georgia (not the whole south). Rutledge was a delegate from South Carolina, but there is not one item of evidence in the historical record that he played any part — much less that of leader — in the opposition to the clause. I defy anyone to find a single primary source naming Rutledge in this matter. Dennis was getting his history, literally, from a fictional episode in a Broadway musical and Hollywood movie.

In defending Bachmann’s ignorance of American history, the tea partier displayed his own (as did YOU) … apparently based entirely on the musical “1776.”
