Newt Gingrich Says Campaign Staff Left Over ‘Strategic Differences’

Video

GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich may have encountered a minor setback yesterday when much of his campaign staff decided to resign, but that’s won’t dissuade Gingrich from keeping his eye on the prize.

Speaking to members of the media outside his home in Virginia, Gingrich explained that “strategic differences” in managing his campaign were what ultimately led to the mass resignations:

We had a strategic disagreement about how to run a campaign. There have been very few campaigns that have been solutions oriented and that are oriented to every single American.

Gingrich also insisted that he is “dedicated” to his campaign, and plans to campaign “very intensely,” mentioning that he has future stops planned in California and New Hampshire:

I’m prepared to go out and to campaign very intensely but I want a campaign on ideas and on solutions and I want to do it in a way that brings Americans together into a large movement.

[...] There is a fundamental strategic difference between the traditional consulting community and the kind of campaign I want to run. Now we’ll find out over the next year who’s right.

Earlier this week, as ABC News’ Arlette Saenz reported, Gingrich continued on the campaign trail, stopping in Hudson, New Hampshire Wednesday after a two week break.

The former Speaker also addressed rumors of a disagreement between him and his wife, Callista, telling reporters that the two “make decisions as a couple.”

Watch video of Gingrich’s reaction, from ABC:

    No, Newt, they left because:

#1 Your current wife was serving as your campaign strategist and tactician , and she is not only abrasive but has no campaign experience. Not that your campaign experience is of much note.

#2 You seem to have no interest in doing the work to campaign, including actual hand-shaking and fund-raising. Beyond rhetoric, you’re not much good.

#3 You keep shooting yourself in the foot, and they’re all afraid of the ricochet.

I had to see you go. You’ve long been a wonderful asset for the Democrats, but gone you are.

Fact: They said Oh Crap Perry is going to run. Later loser!

Newt you are damaged goods….don’t be a Weiner, pull out now before you embarrass yourself further.

    They preferred winning?

Newt is a true Shakespearean character isn’t he? Comic in one breath and tragic in the next. Common, yet complex. Not particularly likable but endearing when slapped down. I don’t think Shakespearean characters fare all that well in the days of reality television. We like our dramatic characters vile, nasty, trashy and foul-mouthed.

‘Strategic Differences’- Translation: “I haven’t a chance of winning.”

Yes Newt they really did. The people I’m amazed at are the folks who donate to his different programs, looks like a cash cow for Newt.

    Alex Alvarez says:

    Minor setback?

It’s hardly “minor” when key members of your campaign staff bail.

  • THE REAL ROYAL KING

Can we say with certainty this wasn’t a Mau Mau conspiracy?

Alvarez was being sarcastic, at least he put emphasis on the word minor

Thats right, Bush did spend a lot of time on the ranch.

  • donalan

    I blame the Liberal Media.

Newt was a good laugh. I love how he changed his opinion ever time the wind changed direction and that we weren’t suppose to take his comments in context. I will sure miss the Newster!!

  • BR

There is only one thing for him to do. Paint his skin black and call everyone a racist.

  • Glackin

He’s been Newt-ered. It’s time to Callista day.

  • Jerps

Newt wanted to come in eighth, his staffers wanted to aim higher.

Actually, I don’t think Perry could even win the nomination. My own working theory is that Bachmann/Perry/Pawlenty/Cain will carve up the populist vote letting Romney become the ultimate winner. But, to placate social conservatives he will pick Bachmann or one of the losing candidates as his running mate. And then maybe Bachmann will become the Sarah Palin of 2016 attracting a frenzy of media attention over the next four years. Obviously, that’s very speculative over how things will play out. I do not see Romney capable of defeating Obama unless we have some type of Armageddon. I think Perry, Pawlenty, or Huntsman could beat Obama, but their infighting amongst themselves lets the establishment candidate that is Romney become the nominee. Presidential politics is so much fun!!!!!

Here is what fascinates me about Perry. He was Al Gore’s state chairman in Texas back when Perry was a Democrat. And Gore is such poision in the Republican intramurals. I wonder if one of the others puts together a video with Perry and Gore together. And is the modern Republican party ready for its standard bearer to be one of Al Gore’s old buddies?

(And I get that Perry changed parties, but come on!!! Al Gore, man!!!)

  • WildMan

Newt ol’ boy, give it up. Ain’t nobody gonna vote for you so save yourself the embarrASSment because it ain’t gonna be pretty when we do vote next year.

  • Thelonious Funk

The announcement and then implosion of Newt Gingrich’s campaign can only mean one thing. The imminent announcement and then implosion of Rick Perry’s campaign.

  • Skippy

    Yes, Newt.

Rats leave the sinking ship over “strategic differences”

    Namely, the sinking ship.
