‘The Election Is Coming!’ Fox Host Presses Senate Republican Hard Over Iran War Backlash

Fox Business host David Asman pressed Sen. Jim Banks (R-IN) over the Iran war’s unpopularity with voters as the midterms loom on Thursday, warning him, “The election is coming!”

Asman, in for the network’s Larry Kudlow on Thursday’s edition of Kudlow, was asking the Republican senator about President Donald Trump’s Wednesday Truth Social post in which he announced the “MOST CRUSHING ECONOMIC OPERATION” in history against Iran, dubbing it “ECONOMIC D-DAY!”

Notably, just last week, CNN’s Harry Enten highlighted polling showing Trump’s handling of Iran has become a major political liability, with his approval on the issue among voters most motivated to participate in the midterms falling to just 29%. Enten also noted that Democrats now hold a two-point advantage over Republicans on handling wars, conflicts, and terrorism — a 20-point swing from January 2025.

“We do, of course, have a midterm election coming up,” Asman noted. “And the question is whether all this can happen before the midterms, whether voters will see some signs that we’ve turned a corner in ending this conflict. Even the Iranians, by the way, are now referring to the midterm elections. They know that the president and Republicans are particularly sensitive about how all this could affect the midterms.”

Asked for his thoughts, Banks responded, “Well, I give President Trump so much credit because he doesn’t look at this as an election issue… Some things are more important than elections, so —”

Asman then interrupted, “I got it. I got it. But again, the election is coming, and there are a lot of Republicans who are concerned about being reelected or going against a competitor. How do you think the war is gonna play into the elections?”

“Well, I think we’ve gotta bring gas prices back down,” Banks acknowledged. “We’ve gotta get the economy moving, and the housing market moving, and the quality of life for all Americans to continue to improve.”
