Maggie Haberman Tells CNN ‘It’s Possible’ Melania Trump is ‘Upset’ About Natalie Harp

New York Times White House correspondent Maggie Haberman believes “it’s possible” First Lady Melania Trump is “upset” about Natalie Harp, or at least the attention the presidential aide is receiving.

CNN’s Kasie Hunt told Haberman she spoke with “one Republican who is relatively close to the White House” and that person “suggested that Melania Trump is upset about it.”

Haberman made it clear she doesn’t “have reporting on that,” but admitted it’s certainly “possible.”

“I don’t know that she’s upset or not upset. I mean, if she’s, if she’s upset, Natalie Harp has been around for a while. So it’s possible always that the coverage and all of this, this focus could upset people,” Haberman explained.

She added:

But again, I don’t know. I think in general they are recognizing as a White House that they are heading into a midterms where the polling suggests that it’s not going to be great for their party and that the Republicans at the moment seem likely to lose control of the House and possibly the Senate. And the Democrats are going to attempt to do a lot of oversight, and they are trying to circle the wagons. But, you know, I think some of this is also the president is not happy about it.

Trump made her first public appearance since July 19 on Thursday at the White House Rose Garden, where she announced a new initiative in support of foster care youth.

She began, “I heard you missed me. Here I am! Welcome to the White House. I want to welcome our distinguished guests today… who stand in support of my Fostering the Future Initiative. The greatest achievement and investment America can make is not in technology, infrastructure or capital markets, it is our children.”

Harp’s name was mentioned by Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-NY) Sunday while he spoke to a group of supporters. Ossoff said of President Donald Trump: “He golfs and trades stocks. See, he doesn’t want to do the job; he wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie to their apparently defenseless flying palace gifted by the Emir of Qatar.”
