Pat Buchanan Predicts Occupy Wall Street Protests Will Get More Violent As Weather Gets Colder

video

On today’s installment of The McLaughlin Group, conservative commentator Pat Buchanan had some strong words for the Occupy Wall Street movement, and in arguing President Obama would not be wise to embrace the protestors, suggested that as it continues to snow and the weather gets colder, they will pursue more violent means to accomplish their goals.

John McLaughlin asked if the OWS movement would serve as a powerful voting bloc in the upcoming presidential election, or if the protest is simply just “transitory.” Buchanan immediately jumped in, comparing the protestors, as so many others before him have, to the hippie protestors of the 1960s.

It’s going end very, very badly with these folks in the winter, and they’re not going to be getting publicity, they’re going to be acting up, acting badly, like the worst of the demonstrators in the 60s… They’re going to start fighting with the cops.”

The other panelists differed from Buchanan, arguing the protestors have “staying power” and the most that will happen during the winter is that their numbers may recede ever so slightly.

If Pat is so concerned about violence breaking out during the winter, he should send the occupiers some hot chocolate… with marshmallows!!

  • Rufus Danegro

Pat makes the best predictions ever. What an amazing track record. He makes Bill Kristol look like the oracle of Delphi.

  • Anonymous

Please progressives, keep supporting this band of communists, anarchists, rapists, thieves and fools. Show America who you really are, it’s political suicide but Cons are loving every minute of it. Chalk up another “victory” for the agitator-in-chief. Obummer is so smart. Hahahahaha………

  • Rick Patel

Pat Buchanan is usually correct on social. political, and cultural issues. Cold weather plus some steel-toed boots up their backsides will scatter OWS punks like fairy-dust.

  • Jonathan Cantor

Is this based on events in the 1860s? Pat was also present back then as well.

  • Anonymous

    Paranoia strikes deep.
Into your [conservative] life it will creep.
It starts when you’re always afraid.

    From Buffalo Springfield.

  • http://twitter.com/jtanglewood76 realist

A couple hundred people in D.C.?  What kind of retard is she?  People are in NYC and several cities all over the country.  What an out of touch panel full of old bastards.  LOL

  • Pablo

You step out of line, the man come and take you away

The rest of that verse. Did the eeeevil 1% steal that from you too?

  • Anonymous

Nah. I decided to stop with the paranoia aspect. Next line about the man taking you away is what Pat wants. Have the cops arrest them all before they become violent.
Ya. Right. There are no torches and pitchforks in that crowd.

  • Pablo

“They were shining flashlights in his face and yelling at him to leave,” said a woman who called herself Leslie, but refused to give her real name.

She said that weeks earlier another woman was raped.

“We don’t tell anyone,” she said. “We handle it internally. I said too much already.”

Yeah, these are the people we need telling us how to run society.

  • caconservative

The cold, and Obimbo’s continued support of the bottom-feeders will feed the violent nature of this mob. Obimbo needs a distraction from his abysmal record. What better vehicle than supporting the very segment of the entitlement society he feeds on, to create that needed distraction.

  • Pablo

You mean you decided to strip those lyrics of their context, and insert your own, opposite context into them.

  • Anonymous

No. I did not skip those lyrics. They were next, but I didn’t want to quote the whole song.
I did insert conservative and put brackets around the word to show it was an insertion. That is standard academic procedure.
You are probably correct that I should have included the next lyric as I mentioned above. Cops dragging non-violent protesters away is perfectly in line with the current situation. History does sometimes repeat itself. There was no violent revolution then, and there will be no violent revolution now.

  • Pablo

    Let’s review. The actual verse:

    Paranoia strikes deep.
Into your life it will creep.
It starts when you’re always afraid.
You step out of line, the man come and take you away

    Your revision:

    Paranoia strikes deep.
Into your [conservative] life it will creep.
It starts when you’re always afraid.

You’ve turned Stills’ meaning on its head, and now you insist that you haven’t. You lie.

  • Texan

    They prefer drugs and booze.

  • Texan

    Conceding so soon?

  • Anonymous

This all comes down to how long various cities and police departments put up with OWS and what they do when time runs out.I certainly hope violence isn’t what happens but it would be foolish to think it absolutely won’t.If nothing else there will be people there for the very reason of stirring up trouble, there always is.

If I were the left, who have decided they and OWS are BFFs,I’d be really concerned about violence because if this does become really violent it will reflect badly on the left.

That is unless OWS realizes it is being used by the left, who really aren’t any less responsible for the OWS folk’s troubles than the right or big business, and kicks them out.

  • Anonymous

The organizers of OWS may no longer have a choice – they’re committed, with leaders pointing to the spring as the opportune time for their big push. If they yank the free food during the cold months; their “movement” loses impetus.  So the structure will remain in place to sustain the most violently inclined, regardless the intent of more peaceful elements that have subsequently been drawn to it.  And as numbers of these latter wane for their being less committed, the influence of those actively looking for a fight is liable to become disproportionate, further radicalizing the remaining diehards.

So the winter will likely be defined by the left running a blocking pattern on the excesses of the crowd and attempts to shift the national dialogue to that represented by the protests, in anticipation of influx of numbers when the weather breaks.

Let the season of class warfare begin!

  • Anonymous

I don’t think I lie, but if you want to think so you go ahead.
    (I think I struck a nerve.)

  • TanbodenKoenig

That title of course implies it has been violent at all up to this point; the overwhelming amount of violence and brutality has been at the hands of the police and there is video evidence to prove it.  This is also coming from the wingnut who implicitly called for a race war in his latest screed.

  • Pablo

If by “struck a nerve” you mean “triggered a bullshit detector” then yes, you did.

So why does the media work so hard to defend THESE protesters, but did they’re best to smear the tea parties as extreme and violent?

  • Anonymous
  • Texan

When the “protesters” refuse to follow the rule of law the police react according to law. The same laws you liberals authored, for the most part. Here’s your sign. ;)

  • Anonymous

Did anyone but a paranoid conservative think that OWS was a permanent thing? The only reason it kept going this long is because you guys want it to stop. As soon as you realize that it is only making a point and totally harmless to anyone but a politician, they will go home and wait for the elections.
What they are telling you now is that they want your side to lose in the next election.
That is the real issue, plain and simple.

  • TanbodenKoenig

Yes, the right to peacefully assemble and petition the government for a redress of your grievance isn’t, you know, the very FIRST amendment or anything.  Funny tho, there’s nothing in there about the rights of jackbooted thugs to indiscriminately pepper spray young women behind a barrier, random people in the street, or shooting a marine veteran in the face with a teargas cannister and then flashbanging the people trying to rescue him.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_CQWUTBF2KSSVOXCR4PSN66L2PM James

I’m waiting to see if any Tea Party peolpe show up to these protest’s.  And what will happen when it does.

Pat would know all about demonizing protester, seeing as how he served as one of Nixon’s henchmen, and Tricky Dick’s White House was infamous for cointelpro.

  • Cofuture

The anti-war demonbstrators in the 60′s actuall;y had a good reason for protesting.

These morons are just dupes of Vann Jones, the Unions, and other Obummer surrogates.

Their parents and grand parents went through the 60′s and know the difference.  These protestors need to be swept up and and given 1 year sentences starting November 21st.  That way they get to miss Thanksgiving, Christmas, but most important the 2012 election.

With the Democommie storm troopers sidelined, then what will the Democommies do? the same old voter fraud BS for sure, but these punks will be adios.

I know what the Democommies will do!

Trot out Ellen Degeneres and have her convince our toddlers and chidren need to protest and also be perverts.

Read the polls. “Libs..SO proud”? Occupy Wall Street, the Occupy movements in literally hundreds of cities, locations, around the world are strongly supported by the vast majority of folks, from Isreal to Oakland, and that would encompass enormously more than the “Libs” you unwisely limit the support of this huge, spontaneous, 99% movement to. Got any banker friends Michelle? I’ll wager that many of them are proud of our nation’s profound shift, led by our youth, their children and grandchilodren, kin, also, in direction from the rampaging greedsters, thieves on Wall Street, now to the economic interests of the many. It’s called democracy, and it is in motion. Like many of the ruling establishment in the 1960′s, from the military to the CIA, the sons and daughters mobilized and brought that horrific imperialist adventure to a halt, just as this existing exploitative system will be modifed, replaced with a new system, beyond capitalism.

Who are you wistfully reading, Westmoreland or Petraus? Positing that the “organizers”or “leaders” are “pointing, or yanking free food”, suggests you actually know who they are, that you have attended General Assemblies, have participated by speaking, in voting on “consensus” collective decision making process, agreements, creating agendas, contributing to the wonderful newspapers,”The Occupied Wall Street Journal, now 3 volumes, created and distributed in the hundreds of thousands. Powerful essays by Naomi Klein, Chris Hedges, on the improvisational essence, the beauty of discovering anew the power of the Town Hall like”horizontal organizing” and democratic mechanics of this movement, which in a matter of weeks has overcome the predictable mindless Corporate Media assaults, and now has the majority of the nation in sympathy with the Occupy Movement, the “99%” v. your masters, the 1%. Tens of millions fascinated, watching, intrigued and concentrating with more interest then a Presidential election, as the forces of order attack in plain sight, alienate the nation, all but the tiny incendiary formation of reactionary, bombastic fools who would believe the infantile analysis you present here. The “violently inclined” you wet dream into your ejaculations do not exist, and the “numbers of these latter” in your hackneyed mimicking of Oliver North, are the majority of our nation that are propelling this, that will push this forward, root for it’s success and it will concretize in a process that will broaden and deepen the democratic, anti-Wall Street impulses of our nation. Good luck with your silly, infantile assumption that the “running a blocking pattern” lingo has a molecule of substance in evauluating this set of historical forces in flux, in embryo, yet to be birthed despite your disinformation.

And, oh yeah, your notion of “class warfare”, being a “season” demonstrates dramatically that your comprehension of the driving force of social movements throughout history, from before the slave revolts in Pharoah times, Rome of Spartacus, the American Revolution inspiring the French, rise of anti-slavery Abolition resistance movements led by John Brown, Frederick Douglas, on and on..the overthrow of the Czar by the Bolsheviks, the valiant and successful nationalist liberation struggle of the Vietnamese, the Revolution in Cuba, recent “Arab Spring”, etc, is so truncated, so unthinking as to be borderline illiterate, but thanks, we need to witness you ventilating your viscious misreadings, stupidities, anticipate your “analysis” as meeting the same unavoidable dreadful fate as Westmoreland’s.

  • Emmett Grogan

Take a walk on the wild side James, go to the Occupy sight nearest you, take a look and listen, there are now hundreds worldwide, dwarfing, with the the now huge national support, of the passing in less then a year, the ephemeral, corporate funded “Tea Parties” embarrassments, created and fueled by Koch Industries, Murdoch/Fox, advertised ad nauseum with every gathering of a dozen or more, “armed” and costumed, the frequent near illiteracy seemingly the norm on the signs, often rascist, propelling the election of dozens of obstructionists in the House that have rapidly succeeded in destroying our nation’s credit rating, following on the horrific Bush financial debacle, among other self-desructive Know Nothing behaviors. The world has watched Ron Paul consign the sick to unchristian isolation, the screaming meme’s shouting lustily at Perry’s beaming pride at State executions of hundreds in Texas, various other despicable ultra-conservative, Birchite frothings. Im sure you will find, if you join the open, welcoming general, discussions, that in fact there already are Tea Party folks amongst their fellow citizens, attracted by the solidly positive impulse to serve and save our nation from the Wall Street criminal 1% that nearly pushed or nation over the cliff to oblivion, and must be held to account legally, our system refromed, into a new place created by us all that replaces this moribund, corrupt shell of a nation into it’s opposite, a vibrant, exciting place for all, by all, We against the 1%, beyond capitalism.

What may happen if more Tea Party peolpe(sic) show up, listen, observe, dialogue, contribute? A new nation built on the present smoldering ashes of the one you now inhabit, a nation for all, even you. There is deep significance and substance to the Occupy slogan: We are the 99%”. Go see, if you actually pay attention, you’ll soon agree.

  • Anonymous

. . .suggests you actually know who they are.

Yep.  That’s exactly what I’m suggesting.  Congratulations.  You correctly identified my meaning.  I haven’t interacted with you to date but as far as other left leaning posters around here go, you by far are already way ahead of the pack.

. . . and now has the majority of the nation in sympathy with the Occupy Movement,. . .

But yet you’re bound and determined, I see, to give that head start up, aren’t you?   Its only been a month and you’re now entering Tea Party territory, national poll wise; without the “benefit” of two and a half years of constant bashing by the established media.

. . .discovering anew the power of the Town Hall like”horizontal organizing” and democratic mechanics of this movement. . .

I saw John Lewis, civil rights hero and lion of the left, widely applauded by an OWS crowd when it was announced he would address them, which presumably represented the inclination of the crowd should the matter have been handled with “democratic mechanics,” only to be blocked from doing so by a “consensus” seeking commissar and several singular allied “blockers.”  As disgusting a moment in American political movements as I’ve ever beheld, shrugged off by my fellow “Americans” in attendance as if it were the most normal set of circumstances.  The totalitarian miasma in which that brand of useful idiots are immersing themselves in the mistaken notion that they’ve chanced upon some brand new insight into man’s relationship with power is palpable.

“The Occupied Wall Street Journal, now 3 volumes, created and distributed in the hundreds of thousands

These things with “valued opinion pieces” just magically appear in the hundreds of thousands without any funding do they?

    . . . the “99%” v. your masters, the 1%.

I have no acknowledged master.  I am an American, and we, through our representatives, are responsible only to ourselves.  Americans bow to no prince or potentate, nor are they easily lead to believe that they do.

Tens of millions fascinated, watching, intrigued and concentrating with more interest then a Presidential election. . .

Ok, anon, time for you to step away from the keyboard and see the crowds for the low thousands – and more usually hundreds – that they are.

. . . as the forces of order attack in plain sight, alienate the nation. . .

The funny thing about having dozens of cameras pointed everywhere looking for video to twist is that everyone in the meantime not propagandized to idiotic levels see your victims with ready made lacerations before they get near a cop, see them amongst crowds trusting themselves at police lines kicking, shoving and throwing objects at them as them scream police brutality and shout for media, that most from whom to expect reinforcement know you now collectively to be inveterate liars and provocateurs you are – as expected of communists, anarchists and F*the police type scumbags well documented by know to overly represent your movement.

As the bulk of the remaining missive devolves into an elaborate string of ad hominems, a strikingly familiar reaction when a piece of analysis comes close to the point, we’ll just get to the heart of it, shall we?

And, oh yeah, your notion of “class warfare”, being a “season”
demonstrates dramatically that your comprehension of the driving force
of social movements throughout history, from before the slave revolts in
Pharoah times, Rome of Spartacus, the American Revolution inspiring the
French, rise of anti-slavery Abolition resistance movements led by John
Brown, Frederick Douglas, on and on..the overthrow of the Czar by the
Bolsheviks, the valiant and successful nationalist liberation struggle of
the Vietnamese, the Revolution in Cuba, recent “Arab Spring”, etc. . .

Red right down to the pink underwear.  Later, comrade.

Pat Buchanan is usually wrong on social, political, and cultural issues.
PLEASE kick the protesters’ butts—it will get a great big cloud of fairy dust all over you.And then slowly, gently, and against your will, you will begin to feel a glimmer of hope and love as your tiny little walnut hearts begin to swell with compassion and grow bigger and bigger.

  • Merckxgimondi

I noticed Pat Buchanan’s remark on the latest edition of the “McLaughlin Group” that the White race was shrinking in this country. Well, he is damned right about that. The reasons it is shrinking are because of government sponsored social enginerering programs such as the Civil Rights Movement, forced integration of the public schools, and ”Affirmative Action”, which is actually reverse racism.

This kind of garbage is promoted by deranged wackos and queers who call themselves Liberals. There is really something wrong when Time Magazine promotes interracial marriage as a way to create a “permanently tanned population”. God help the Caucasians.
