Cable news ratings, March 4, 2010: Check out the highlights, and see the full ratings below:

Rachel Maddow surpassed one million total viewers Thursday night – a feat seen often at Fox News but rarely within the rest of the cable news networks. Her 9pmET MSNBC show also was #1 in the A25-54 demographic among non-FNC programs.

• The top show on all of cable news was, again, Bill O’Reilly‘s, who almost had as many demo viewers as Maddow had total viewers.

Check out all the ratings below, and leave your own thoughts in the comments:

    Hey Olbermann, say buh-bye!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/John-Boyer/602168764 John Boyer

I bet its Olbermann only viewers who decided they’ll just watch Maddow.

  • Olby Sucks

As olbermann pounds his fist on his desk……..

  • Moderate

That publicity tour of hers really did work. Those new viewers will go away after checking things out.

  • writer

If she keeps this up, she’ll appear on Olbermann’s worst persons list.

  • m

Congratulations Maddow to all of her success!

  • The Real Royal King

    Good going, Rachel!

  • Olby Sucks

Who cares, more people watch sponge bob. ;)

  • MichelleF

Good job Rachel, you got 1/3 of Glenn’s audience and he’s on at 5 pm. Way to go!

  • Grammie

I know Friday is the slowest weeknight but is Thursday the next slowest?

If that’s the case she really accomplished something especially for her and her network.

Now, Michelle, you know very well 17:00 Hours is Prime Time for the Blue Hair and Denture Set, Glen(n)’s biggest draw. They’re back from the Early Bird Special and settling in for the nightly box of wine.

  • MichelleF

Hey, I watch him everyday and as of Friday, the gray is gone from my hair. Sadyly, it will be back in 3 weeks!

  • Olby Sucks

The faux royal queen shows again what a pos she really is. Thanks philby!

  • writer

Michelle, you don’t understand. Rachel is the non-Fox winner. Sort of like Japan was the non-American winner of WWII.

A bit unfair how grey and crow’s feet make men look distinguished and wise, but women think it makes themselves look old. Actually, I rather like a nice, respectably silver grey on a woman of bearing.

  • The Real Royal King

Sort of like Japan was the non-American winner of WWII.

I think that would have been the UK and the USSR. Try a simpler metaphor. Like pork is the #1 non-chicken white meat, or SAAB is the #1 non-Volvo Swedish car, or John McCain was the #1 non-Democratic presidential winner in 2008, or Gore was the #1 non-W popular vote winner in 2000. Scratch the latter. It should be W was the #1 non-Gore popular vote winner in 2000.

  • writer

I was trying to spare your feelings by not pointing out that all the MSNBC shows still don’t hold a ratings candle to Fox. You may now dissect the ‘holding a candle’ metaphor.

  • The Real Royal King

Don’t worry about my feelings. I am much more an NPR news junkie. When I watch news on television, other than PBS and BBC World, I tend to watch NBC, and FOX doesn’t hold a ratings candle to NBC.

  • writer

Were you aware the Jeffrey Immelt, chairman of NBC, is a liberal democrat, and so might put a liberal bias on what gets aired? Just a heads up, since I know how you deplore bias.

  • MichelleF

Yes, but I got it at the young age of 24, as soon as I got pregnant. How unfair! Thank goodness for hair color. I refuse to grow old gracefully!

  • The Real Royal King

So-called media bias never bothers me, unless it is accompanied with blaring self-serving pronouncements of fairness and balance. It is like a baseball uniform. Always possible to make the necessary adjustments at home.

  • The Real Royal King

I refuse to grow old gracefully!

I understand, but I liked my 30′s better than my 20′s, my 40′s better than my 30′s, and, so far, my 50′s better than my 40′s.

  • writer

By fair and balance Fox doesn’t mean they don’t have a slant. They admit it. What that means is that they present the other side, as wittnessed by Hannity having on Michael Moore, Rev. Wright, and Bob Beckel, or Bill O’Reilly having on Marc Lamont Hill. I guess Olbermann could make a blaring self-pronouncement like “If you’re not from the Daily Kos, you’re not getting on my show.”

  • The Real Royal King

By fair and balance Fox doesn’t mean they don’t have a slant. They admit it.

Who is “they”? I don’t know that I have ever heard anyone at FOX admit that, except O’Reilly, and that was in his mindless dicta. Certainly, I have never heard Kelly, for example, admit that.

  • The Real Royal King

By the way, Michelle, I started greying when I was 19, and my best friend was balding by that time. Talk about unfair. I am please to say that when I come into our Lord’s Nearer Presence, I will have a head of hair, white, no doubt, but fully and bushy.

  • writer

No, she doesn’t come out at the beginning of every show and shout “I’m a conservative”. Neither do Olbermann or Maddow shout that they’re far left every time they go on the air. And does Hannity have to explain every night where he’s coming from politically? Isn’t it kind of obvious? Again, the balance is in the guests, not in the host’s opinions.

  • LA screenwriter

This really doesn’t surprise me. With SO many things going wrong for Obama, and with SO much anger in the country aimed at Congress, and ESPECIALLY with Democrats facing dire prospects for the midterms, Maddow ticking up a bit in the ratings simply strikes me as chickens coming home to roost. So, I take this as less of a sign that she’s winning new viewers, and more of a sign that Liberals are looking for a show to call their own — sort of their Glenn Beck — to rally around as we march towards the November elections.

Plus, from looking at online political message boards — and given things like her visible on-air spats with Beck or going to CPAC — it’s clear that Maddow is profiting from some cross-over attention that she’s been receiving of late from viewers on the Right, who are looking to see what she’ll do next. Heck, I never really watched her before, but I fall in that camp. I’m one of those who now keeps a closer eye on her simply because the MSM has decided to try and groom her into being their next big uber Lefty star.

Personally, I think she’s full of crap and as biased as they come. She constantly distorts or manipulates data, often in a truly laugh out loud way. I’m willing to be fair and many commentators do that to one degree or another, but Maddow does it extra, extra bad. But the production of her show is slick, I’ll give her that — and she’s not the spit flying, total raving loon that Olbermann has become. So, I also think some on the Left have reached a tipping point where they just find Olbermann a bit TOO mean spirited or abrasive, whereas Maddow comes off a bit more composed, so they’re shifting their focus to her for that reason as well.

    Good going, Rachel!

Haven’t both of you been known to attack those who say FNC’s ratings are good, with the old, “They’re not as good as the broadcast networks,” line? Exactly how is this not more hypocrisy?

Of course, the demo numbers disprove that… but you know, don’t let the facts get in the way.

Wait are you talking about the broadcast networks now? Because if you are, FOX and NBC both have a lot of number one positions to be proud of. Unless you’re comparing FNC to NBC, not MSNBC, which as always, isn’t a fair comparison. Of course, the hypocrisy in complimenting Maddow who’s ratings are still less than FNC, while thing insulting FNC for not having “good” ratings… well, I guess that’s just par for the course, isn’t it?

    The Real Royal King says:
    March 8, 2010 at 3:49 pm

Certainly, I have never heard Kelly, for example, admit that.

Well, by your own statement earlier… you said that you mostly watch PBS or NPR. If you don’t watch the network, how can you expect to hear anything?
