Rep. Maxine Waters: We Need To Spend A Trillion Or More On A Jobs Program

video

On Meet the Press today, Congresswoman Maxine Waters called for President Obama to take a more forceful approach to a jobs program, and likely made Republicans drop their jaws with the amount of money she argued the United States should invest in such a plan.

David Gregory asked Waters if it would be possible for the president to take on an ambitious role in working on job creation in Congress, given the recent partisan fights over the debt ceiling. Waters put the impetus on Obama to take the first step.

“The president must be bold. I agree that he must have a jobs program, he must create jobs. I’m talking about a jobs program of a trillion dollars or more. We’ve got to put Americans to work. That’s the only way to revitalize this economy. When people work, they earn money, they spend that money, and that’s what gets the economy up and going.”

Waters insisted any kind of effective jobs plan could not “shrink” to the demands of Republicans or give tax breaks to those in the highest income tax brackets.

The job of the gov’t is not to create jobs but to stay out of the way. Since it doesn’t realize that it should be fired.

I’m surprised we couldn’t see this deluded racist’s eyeballs spinning like a slot machine as she was trying to figure out how to give this trillion directly to black people. Goebbels without an army is still Goebbels. David Duke doesn’t have an army either and he’s been rightly sidelined to the bayous. Why isn’t this race advocate with him?

One can only imagine what the people in Water’s district are like if they consider her a leader.

Why doesn’t Meet the Presstitutes just invite a bipolar homeless person that talks to themselves onto the show, and ask them what we should do to get the economy going? It would be just as educational, yet provide a clearer context for the value of said recommendations.

So from what I gather the left wants Obama to run in 2012 on spending more money, raising taxes and demonizing all dissent as racism. This sounds like a winning strategy to me……for Republicans.

  • Anonymous

Feldman got carried away with his own exaggerations on this one.  With her record, any Republican whose jaw would drop over anything this idiot now says deserves to permanently lose that jaw to gravity.  Perhaps some Democratic jaws dropped, from feelings of, “Oh, god!  Someone please shut her up before she disgraces us even more.” (No religious meaning implied: even devout atheists use that name in cursing.)

No she is not delusional.  We have to need jobs  in order to increase the tax base.I ‘m hoping that President Obama will offered up
ideas that are so brilliant that even the House Republicans will get on board
and quickly passed them into law, which would immediately improved the jobs
situation for all of America. This will be good for our nation.  This would help  us win the future.  We are in a job crisis, and the GOP/TP are
campaigning.  The President wants to put
the nation back to work, but the GOP/TP are standing in the way.

Waters is,among other things,a poster child for the failure of our political system.she can’t get past traditional Democratic speak and thought and her only solution for when times are this tough and traditional democratic strategy hasn’t worked is to make it bigger and bigger until in her mind it has to work.

Waters, who wants her opponents to go straight to hell,is in fact a part creator of hell, the one we are all living in right now,and she’s doing her best to keep it that way.

And you just watch, she’ll be re-elected by the sheep in her district.

  • Anonymous

Wonder how many of her constituents even want to be gainfully employed? And who is she fooling with that Betty Crocker wig?

  • Udeskym

Former labor secretary Robert Reich said the same thing. A trillion. Why? Cause tightening belts, cutting, all forms of austerity KILLS economic growth. In the short term — SHORT TERM – we need a huge stimulus to create jobs. All legit economists say the say the same thing. It’s just simple economics and so tiresome (and dare I say ridiculously stupid) to thinks otherwise. Republicans just want to make Obama a one term president and are deliberately hurting our economy to do so. The part that’s depressing is so many american people (read the comments above) think a big stimulus is a terrible idea. The brainwashing (with HUGE assist from our media outlets who are not laying out the facts) has worked.

  • Anonymous

    Maxine is an asshat.

  • Anonymous

Her stupidity is simply breathtaking.  She was so far out of her intellectual on that panel – a panel that included  DKG, who’s not a rocket-scientist herself – that her constituents should be (but I’m sure won’t be) embarrassed.

Her most outrageous and wholly un-American comments came near the very end.  She implored Obama to force the banks into writing down the mortgage principle (presumably) for her constituents who are facing foreclosure;  Just like her constituents, she has absolutely no respect for the American principle of PRIVATE property.

That came right before the comment where she implored Obama to “keep interest rates below 4%”.  Maxine, in her (seemingly) innumerable years of federal political office, still hasn’t realized that the Fed operates independently of the Executive.

Personally, I think Maxine should be on t.v. continually.  Liberalism has no better or more accurate representative than Waters.  She’s a national treasure, in that regard.

Maxine waters can… “Go straight to Hell”.

  • Anonymous

Consumers aren’t spending because businesses aren’t creating jobs.  Businesses aren’t creating jobs because they’re not expanding their business – at least not in the US.  They’re not expanding their business in the US because they’re terrified of the regulatory regime instituted by this president, to especially include Obamacare.  They’re also terrified of the looming, and growing national debt which will eventually have to be reined in and paid down.

Business managers look for signals from the government that say “government understands the underlying fundamental problems that are impeding growth”.  They don’t see those signs, at least not from this administration, so rather than invest the capital that they’re sitting on, they continue to sit on it, and in some cases they even contract because they’re not hopeful about the future.  In fact, they continue to be extremely uncertain about the future, and uncertainty in business breeds contraction.

We are now in the middle of a permanent Obama malaise, and quite possible a permanent Obama recession.

    Change you can believe in?

  • Anonymous

No we need a trillion or more in tax cuts… so we can create more jobs overseas?

  • Anonymous

Obama already spent 800 million on a stimulus and it didn’t work. That doesn’t include Cash for Clunkers as well as Cash for Caulk. Both failures.

Government is the number supplier of jobs through government contract, etc.  Business large and small or interdependent on government contracts.  For the short term, government once again needs to step in and save the collapsing state and local governments.   This worked under the Recover Act.  It also needs to develop liaisons with the private sector to create jobs.  Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nation always saw a working relationship between the market economy and government.  Government and the market place occupy two distinct spheres in the political economy that compliment each other.

  • Anonymous

Let’s say we do what you want. We get an uptick in jobs created (which will almost certainly be temporary jobs for the most part). Then what?

We will be way further into debt, we will still have an exponentially increasing deficit, Social Security and Medicare and entitlement programs will still be going bankrupt, the value of the dollar might very well collapse, and another recession will be imminent.

    Then what? Do it again?

President Obama should run on a platform that puts America back to work, and explain how the GOP/TP platform does not put America back to work.  I heard a lady on C-SPAN say that the “Republicans aren’t  goin’ to create not one job.”   I hope she wasn’t speaking the truth.

  • Anonymous

That is going to be Obama’s big plan. To spend another ( first stimulus ) trillion dollars on nothing of substance, but rather simply to assure him more 2012 presidential election votes.

That qualifies him as a domestic terrorist which must be immediately removed from our White House.

Any individual that could even consider throwing a good trillion after a bad is an un-American loser of the worst kind.

If we spend another trillion per year just so some union members will vote for democrats, just how long do you idiots think this country can continue to do so and still remain the United States of America?

Do you ever stop and really think about it, or do you just blindly follow and believe every word your political leaders tell you to.

That last sentence was rhetorical……we all know the answer……..LOSERS.

  • Anonymous

Yes, we are going to have to take a mixture of steps, because the old Bush economic policies are not working.  Cutting taxes alone is not enough.  Cutting the deficient in the short term, slows economic growth.  We are going to have to plant seeds so that your grand children will have something to harvest.  Which means we are going to have to spend/invest now in order to grow the the number of taxpayers.
Most of the deficit was created under the Bush Administration.  Obama’s Recovery Act was implemented to stop the lost of jobs.  The Recovery Act stop the bleeding of jobs  and saved state and local jobs.  Forty percent of the Act was tax cuts, it put more money into economy.  The economy started to grow at an anemia pace, but now that money is running out.  Something else is needed from the private and public sectors.

There was no new job growth under President Bush. Up until last month, jobs were being added to the market place, but the GOP/TP scared the bejesus out of the market and consumers by threatening default and provoking the S&P downgrade.  Sales and hiring fell off, and consumer confidence plummeted.

We all have to be open to a variety of ideas to turn the economy around. There is no silver bullet.

The Recovery Act did save state and local jobs.  This is why now the state and local governments have started to lay off workers. Bush’s economic policies are central to appreciating the complexities of the economy, because as William Faulkner said,” The past is never dead, it’s not even past.” Nothing happens randomly; and a cause-and-effect analysis establishes meaning and comprehensibility of the economic/job crisis. The rut is necessary in order to provide knowledge to plan for the future.

It’s too bad that it took the president 2.5 years to realize that, “We are in a job crisis, and this takes precedent over everything else.” He was too busy with healthcare, bailouts on Wall Street, cash for clunkers, paying off the GM union pensions, and funding every liberal wishbook cause he could while the democrats still had control of Congress. The original ” stimulus package” was supposed to contain shovel ready jobs.  Instead, it was mostly used to pay salaries of state and local government workers who are largely unionized and presumed to be democrats. Of course these jobs are not really sustainable because the states and municipalities can’t maintain them. They must establish priorities and balance their budgets. Oh yeah, he extended unemployment benefits, too.  That’s nice but a real shovel ready stimulus might have worked. Of course, his regulation frenzy hasn’t helped either. And his labor board has fought job creation tooth and nail.

  • Anonymous

That’s proof?  Hardly.  You’ve linked to a newspaper story about a poll that they conducted.  They don’t cite their sampling standards of this “survey”, and in fact they don’t even claim that it was a scientific survey.  Instead they say this…

“McClatchy reached out to owners of small businesses, many of them
mom-and-pop operations, to find out whether they indeed were being
    choked by regulation…”

What does that mean?  How many owners did they “reach out” to?  A handful?  Dozens?  Thousands?  Since they don’t descrive their method, one can only assume that they “reached out” to a handful.  That’s hardly compelling evidence.

What is compelling evidence?  The US Chamber of Commerce has said and continues to say that their members are terrified of the currently regulatory scheme.  These members represent business of all sizes and all industries.  They actually pay the Chamber to represent their interests before Congress, and what they’re paying for is for the Chamber to stand firmly against Obama and his socialist administration.  THAT is what is compelling, not some ridiculously unscientific survey from a mouth organ of the Obama administration, McClatchy Newspapers.

If anyone is lying here, it’s you.

  • Wayne

When did so many get convinced of the myth that government is the primary employer in this country?  Government cannot produce wealth or permanent private sector jobs.  Government extracts wealth from productive, economic growth that would otherwise occur.

Has everyone already forgotten the dismal failures of $830 Billion of our grandchildrens’ future tax burden spent on  ”shovel-ready” vaporware projects and investment in companies primed to roll over and die like Solyndra? And the diversion of major portions of this deficit spending to temporarily propping up exhorbitant compensation packages of state and local public unions so the forced dues revenues to the DNS could be maintained for another year?

Government has not the first clue how to create economic expansion.  It only knows how to make choices based on ideology and politics.

This is what all the Dem commenters with some advance info on the plan/speech were saying today on the Sunday talk shows.  He’ll propose something he knows GOP won’t pass, then he’ll blame them when the economy CONTINUES to fail to improve.  They indicated it will become his economic platform in the election, that the speech is a campaign speech, and a big part of the theatre will be to point his finger at the assembled captive audience to dramatize his blame the GOP strategy.  Can’t wait!

The little problem with this strategy of course is that, (1) targeted stimulus laden with byzantine and wasteful union-wage mandates not working the first time, and (2) BO had two years of Dem control of both houses and still accomplished nothing, (3) he spent that time on health care.  And now that even the leftist media droolers are denouncing Obamacare as the wrong move when jobs should have been number one, this plays perfectly into GOP hands to argue that he was obsessed with Obamacare at the expense of the economy.

Obama’s 2012 hand grows weaker with each passing day.

Raising tax rates has no chance of improving the situation.  It cannot make a dent in the rate of federal deficit spending, and it will make the economy and private job creation even worse than it is now.

I don’t know if you can jusify telling a political party to go to hell but it doesn’t help to tell a woman, even Maxine Waters, to go to hell, especially when you rightwingers yourselves have such a diabolical agenda. In your lust for power and control you’re basically telling the whole country to go to hell. What do you think the history of this time will be like. They will say that it was the extreme rightwing who fought a moderate centrist president every step of the way and thus prolonged the recession/depression. I’m an optimist and feel that Obama will get a little bolder and gutsier in dealing with the recalcitrants. FDR did it and created the basis for nearly 50 years of prosperity. To all you people out there who think government is always bad, this is the time to rethink. The system has squeezed all it can get out of us and it’s time for a change.

How many times do we need to waste a trillion to find out that Keynesian economics doesn’t work?  It didn’t work with the first stimulus bill.  It didn’t work with Carter or LBJ.  It didn’t work for the British Labour governments.  It didn’t work in Cuba.  It didn’t work in the Third World.  It didn’t work in France.  In short, every time the Left has tried this, it has failed.

If spending money you don’t have creates prosperity, than Argentina would be the wealthiest nation on the planet.  And my brother-in-law would be the next Bill Gates.

She doesn’t have to worry about her job or paying taxes. Idiots keep voting her back in while she and her husband hide their money to keep from paying higher taxes. She must keep the money flowing to her sister’s and bro’s from the government coming in so they can lay up having babies, using their money for foodstamps to buy their drugs while drawing MORE money from good hard working people.
With Americans burdened with high taxes, paying even higher taxes with Obama ,they must hope the government they pay for would at least act efficiently and wisely. It’s a joke!!!!!!!

And FDR’s Social Security now comes full circle, as so many short term government programs will. Now is time for long term reforms to overblown entitlements and an arcane, outdated and ineffective tax code, which are proposed by Republicans. Will it mean short term suffering? Probably, but it is what is right, not popular. Or, follow Maxine Waters and blow trillions to feel better and fix nothing.

EVERY REPUBLICAN IN CONGRESS SHOULD BOYCOTT THIS RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN SPEECH BY OBOZO.

NO-PLAN OBOZO’s jobs proposal (after the VACATIONER-in-CHIEF returns from his latest luxury vacation on the Vineyard) will be nothing more than a joke and a sham. It will have one goal – to be so ridiculously bad, useless and wasteful that the responsible members of Congress will have no choice but to reject it. Then NO-PLAN OBOZO will have achieved his REAL goal with this sham proposal – use it to falsely claim that he “would have saved or created millions more jobs if only Congress had accepted his (ridiculous, wasteful, phony) proposal.”  And the d-cRAT socialist stooges in the socialist media will all chime in and agree (naturally).

P.S. It’s always nice to see waters, whose d-cRAT socialist woman ugliness is due, in part, to her being submerged in the washington SWAMP-OF-CORRUPTION for decades (most recently because she’s in there hiding from the House ethics committee for her swindle of TARP money for the bank her husband is associated with). When she slithered out of the SWAMP to make one of her famous hate-filled tirades a “thrill went up my leg” and then I was overcome by dry heaves as I looked at her photo.

Sorry, bison, even the New York Times has a chart which shows the recession, and loss of jobs, started in quarter three of 2007, following the rise to power of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. In the six years prior, unemployment was never higher than 5.5 percent. Look it up. And, further, serving in the Senate as junior senator from Illinois was none other than Barack Obama, who never ONCE voted against a spending bill.

Gary Rauber we appear to be on the same page.   From
his first days in office, Pres. Obama was concerned about workers, jobs, and
the economy.  You have delineated many of
actions he took to lessen the acute job crises for state and local workers, auto
workers and related industries, car sales people, union and non-union workers, small
business, etc.   He stopped the bleeding
jobs that had begun under the Bush administration.  President Bush recognized how bad the economy
was getting and in February 2008, he signed a stimulus bill.  Since the spring of 2009 there has been very slow
grow in job creation throughout the nation, but this slow growth lessen after
the GOP/TP took over the House in the winter of 2011.  The anemic job growth continued to limp along
until last month when the GOP/TP scared the bejesus out of the market and
consumers by threatening default and provoking the S&P downgrade.  Sales and hiring fell off, and consumer
    confidence plummeted.  Pres. Obama has
not ignored the job crises, but more is needed. With each reassessment of the
2008 economic figures we learn that the economy was worst than President Bush
and Obama knew.  They were making
economic policy without the best fiscal information.

  • HawkCW4

Its not called underestimating when you simply state what has occured for the past 2.5 + years under this fool.  He has done nothing but whine and blame others for his failure.  And if you dont see the failure you deserve what you will reap.   Hang on to those coat tails,  he will abandon you like he did this country from day one.,   He not only is the worst president I have ever ever seen in my life time but he is the sorriest individual I ever even heard of.  Two faced, hypocritical and condescending to everyone who points out his failures, which would be like 3/4ths of the American Citizens over the age of 7.

And yet he did nothing that would encourage Businesses to begin to hire.  NOTHING.  All you people know is spend more and more and more.   Who do you think pays the wages of those state and fed jobs?   We tax payers do.  We need jobs that workers are paid by business for creating and producing and in turn pay into the tax base, NOT Take from it in welfare and unemployment.  Everything Obama wants to do only stops job creation and increases the outflow of tax revenues in welfare and unemployment checks.  How stupid is that?  Liberals hate Business so much they create rules that make it expensive and unproductive for business to even try.  And then whine cause no one is hiring.  Why the hell should they.  ONLY BUSINESSES can create jobs that mean anything in fixing this economy, so get the hell off their backs,  stop creating more rules and regs that only drives costs up for doing anything and does nothing for creating revenues.  You idiots want your taxes but just cant stand for anyone to make a dime so they will pay those taxes,   Is there no depth to your stupidity?

So you agree,  solar panels on all those schools huh.  Liberal’s problems are many, but the most rediculous is that everything must be tied to GREEN.  Thats BS and will stymie this economy beyond its ability to recover.  2012 may be too late to recover from this 4 years of Obama.   I can remember worrying about terroists,  now its Obama we have to worry about.  He has done more in 2.5+ years than al quida could ever have done in the same time.

  • Anonymous

So we agree, it started doing the Bush Administration. He took steps to mitigate the problem, and the Democratic control House and Senate worked with him by passing the Stimulus Act of  February 2008.  Then, the growing recession was compounded by the collapsing Financial Institions in September 2008. These cause a short fall state and local coffers.  Bush had given the auto industry money, but had not restructure the industry.  Fannie and Freddie had problems throughout the summer of 2008.  It clear that the financial/job crises was not caused by one failure.  There were series of financial failures– one feeding into the next.  Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid tried to work with President Bush to avoid a total financial chaos.  They were not the Party of no.  They were not obstructionists.  They worked with the President Bush to keep this nation financially afloat.

Like most, you conveniently forget the fact that during his first two terms in office, Democrats held the majority in both houses of Congress. It is during that two years that the American electorate saw the illusion of reform and transparency for what it was as Obama and his supporters crammed one program after another down our throats; programs that had little to do with job creation despite all the rhetoric that they did.  Failed policies, falsely advertised promises and a failed agenda are what led to the Republicans regaining control of the House in the 2010 election, not the Tea Party, tidal waves, atms, the middle east or anything else as the POTUS would have us believe and his inability to change, to grasp the fact that the people are fed up with an out of control government which can’t balance its’ checkbook or its’ debt that will see him as a one term President.

  • Anonymous

I have to give Felix a few facts.  Real wages didn’t go up under Reagan or Bush. Reagan actually had to raise taxes on the lower and middle income to offset his tax cuts to the very rich.  Bush lost most of his job gains by the time his presidency was over. I think when you say Kennedy you mean LBJ. Very few paid 91%, but he cut a lot of the loop holes in the tax code.  LBJ cut poverty by half. Clinton raised taxes and created 23 million jobs.

  • Anonymous

Not so, he pushed through a bill that would make it easier for small business to borrow money.  The bill was not supported by the GOP. An article on Huffington Post is saying that “Regulations, Taxes Aren’t Killing Small Business.”

It is time for all of us to realize that government needs to refrain from even attempting to manage the economy much less continue the illusion that it and only it creates jobs.  Failure to do so will see only more of the same as we leap off the cliff to join the 3rd world craving economic handouts.  Government’s role should be limited to that in which it insures a legal and fair level playing field while protecting the interest of the worker, the business owner and consumer alike and unshackles the free market system to do what it used to do for most of our history.  Want to end deficit spending and the national debt?, lower the corporate tax rate, eliminate loopholes and ATTRACT business to come here which would provide the necessary revenues to the government to address those issues and at the same time spark our economy and put our people back to work.   It really isn’t rocket science, but a matter of common sense.

I just don’t think you libs get it.  A stimulus is not a short term spend. Most of wehatever stimulus will go to either save or create more govenrment jobs. The government does not produce a product or service that returns a profit thus it cannot sustain paying more workers over time. If teh stimulus is short term, that money will run out. You will have not solved the economic problems. The libs here might be ignorant or brainwashed, but I can assure you Obama and his relection team know full well that this will hurt us in the long run. However their concern is not our long term success. It is the mirage fs short term success that they hope to ride to re-election.

Umm, the GI Bill was a bipartisan bill that was signed in to law by FDR. Sounds like groundwork to me (not to mention being a big government program). Also the recession of 1937 was caused by FDR accepting the idea, put forth by some of his advisers, that there should be spending cuts to try to balance the budget (sound familiar?). So a lot of the works projects money (stimulus) evaporated. This resulted in the recovery coming almost to a standstill and umemployment jumping from 14 to 19%. So FDR listened to the, might I say, Tea-Party-like-ideas of some members of his administration and almost destroyed all he had accomplished. And you’re right, it took WWII to bring us out of that slump. So what do you say, let’s not repeat those mistakes?

Maxine Waters, is a racist, also, she is driven and motivated by race.  I’ve said it before and I’ll repeat such: African American’s are the most racist ‘plurality’ in the nation today and Ms. Waters epitomizes such.

The racism that typically comes to mind for most people is the overt, Jim Crowe, Bull Connor, deep South racism.  Perpetrated by Whites on Blacks.  Now we have a different strain of racism where the former, de jure oppressed, have acquired power and have the capacity to use it.

Effectively, “I have a dream” has been supplanted by, I’m getting even!

The military got Bin Laden.  All Obama did was make a decision:

:Hmmmmm.  If I say no to the troops that found him and are ready and willing to take him out, word will get out that I passed on Bin Laden and that is the end of my Presidency and Liberalism.  On the other hand, if I say yes and we miss him I can blame the military for F’ing it up and maybe there is just a chance that these schmucks in the military that hate me anyway get him and I can proclaim myself the hero of the day.  Ok schmucks, go get Bin Laden.

  • Darkchocolate70

To the twits that bring out “Obama Got Bin Laden” every time someone criticizes Obama:

The military got Bin Laden.  All Obama did was make a decision and that decision process went like this:Obama: “If I say no to the military that found him and are ready and willing to take him out, word will get out that I passed on Bin Laden and that is the end of my Presidency and Liberalism.  On the other hand, if I say yes and we miss him I can blame the military for F’ing it up.  Plus maybe there is just a chance that these schmucks in the military that hate me anyway get him and then I can run videos of me in the moment of decision being cool, calm, and collected!  Note to me; need to get a carton of cigarettes.”

I’m afraid most of these folks believe they really have learned history as taught to them through the revisionist history of the depression. Even the teachers mistakenly believe they are well informed.
I was taught that history in the 50′s, but I was fortunate enough to have parents and grandparents who deprogrammed me from public education. They we appalled at what I was being taught. They told me what had really happened from their own experiences. They pointed me to source material that countered what was in the schools books.
Progressive revisionists have betrayed many generations.

But it is going to get much, much worse, the closer we get to the election. obama lost almost all the Independent voters, women voters, the whites that voted for him, and a huge amount of the black votes. He can not get elected like he did last year. He has to do two things. Make illegal immigrants, legal, AND cause racial tensions, so the black people will vote him in again, so he can get “whitey”. The racist rants coming out of the mouths of Democrats, are unbelievable. Not one of the MSM outlets take them to task on their new era of “civility” that obama asked for, civility is only for Republicans. They have turned everyone into racists just for disagreeing with obama’s policies. Just wait…it’s coming to a town near you, more black panther, Farakhan, Al Sharpton BS racial rhetoric, People like Al Sharpton would not get one dime in their coffers if they didn’t espouse and support racism, in their eyes, there will never be peace among the races, but all they do is promulgate it.

Most of the new jobs have been created in government and they don’t generate government income, just the opposite, they suck up tax payers money. If half the government departments can be done away with the economy will soar. Just about every state has duplicate agencys, there is no reason for the federal government to have them at tax payers expense. Let the states decide what industry can do and not do. The only job the federal government should be doing is defending our country and enforcing federal laws. Government should stay out of the economy and stop getting into wars of choice like, Viet Nam, Iraq and Afghanistan. These wars have unnecessarly cost American lives and money. We could have killed Bin Laden years ago in Afganistan with no more than a undercover mission by a dozen seals or he could have been just handed over during the Clinton administration. We elect stupid people that do stupid things, it’s time we elect someone that has common sense, like Ron Paul.

Lately he’s become worse as he must be reading or hearing ultra-orthodox, African racist theology.  I mention this as I have stopped coddling the Black racist in general.  Recently I told COBRA that the “playing field” is as fair as we can make it.  The rest is up to him, as well as us to keep “equal protection,” equal and fair.

The same applies for Waters, Farrakhan and Sharpton, etc., as they are charlatans who perpetuate this nonsense.

Great comment – In 1932 what did the rightwing Tea Partiers of that time have to offer – nada. Roosevelt did what was absolutely necessary to ‘save’ the system. He broke up the power of Wall St and the large corporations of that time and instituted many reforms. The most crucial thing he did to stimulate the economy was to ‘stimulate’ the economy by pouring money into many worthwhile projects. all over the country. In 1937, the year I was born, the economy was slowly coming back, but the rightwingers succeeded as they are today in bringing things to a halt. Then, as now, the rightwing is standing in for the corporations, who want to be allowed to continue doing exactly the same things that got us into this mess in the first place. The problem is that rightwingers really don’t believe in evolution or in learning from history. We can continue to keep improving our wonderful country, we don’t have to let the barbarians at the gate, like Rick Perry, get control of our lives and the world.

Who told you that garbage. Raising taxes will have no impact on job creation. You are a moron if you believe this or have never owned a business. What makes job creation happen is demand. If there is no greater demand then you have no reason to hire someone. If you can get your current work force to do the task by loading them up with the work then there is no reason to hire anyone. If you are a business owner and youcan use the current climate to make people work harder for the same about why hire anyone. The only reason to hire someone is if the demand for your product is so great that your current work force can not handle it. Period, the end.

How is he ending those wars? So far he has done nothing to end the war. He did not get Bin Laden, the United States Special Operations Command and intelligence agencies got Bin Laden. He did not participate in the planning or the execution of the mission, he merely gave the go ahead to a plan that had been in the works for at least eight years. You lefties all want to claim this for him, but the only thing he did was approve the SEALs to execute once they were on station.

How none of you get this and claim contrary to it is beyond belief. You are either accidental or voluntary idiots and fools.

  • Anonymous

You are really deranged. The fact is Bush authorized the planning of this operation, and the intelligence gathering efforts that got him. Obama knew where Bin Laden was for six, (6), months before giving the go ahead to execute this mission. Why did he delay acting once he knew the location and had confirmed intelligence? He was banking this so it would boost his poll numbers at a strategic moment. He didn’t care about the men who had to do the real job of getting Bin Laden. Everything that Obama does is a calculated political maneuver, nothing more. He got lucky that intel was able to locate Bin Laden, and then he held off for six months. Why? What purpose would it serve for him to delay this?

Obama doesn’t wind his watch without thinking about his campaign.

I can’t believe the idiocy of the right if you spend 1 trillion on jobs in 2011-2012 schedule cuts in military, revamping of medical anyone who thinks the US’s health care system is OK is a loon with many hospitals having over 50% not paying their bill Obama at least he did something. Medicare for all would of been the way to control cost as the more you purchase at a time the bigger discounts you can negotiate. Instead of worrying about insurance company profits and business we should be worried about the good of American people. Every person that goes to emergency when they could of gone to a doctor adds over $1,000 to the bill and someone has to pay. Making Social Security checks need based if you are making a certain amount you don’t get a check or a reduced one. Raising the retirement age in stages will also help. Letting the Bush tax cuts expire and refining capital gains so small investors aren’t punished but hedge fund managers etc. pay their share. The cuts and tax changes would be scheduled to begin in 2015. Right now we need to create jobs and these jobs must last and be ones that will spur other jobs infrastructure is a good start. Each person who gets a job fuels other jobs from the coffee shop to the supply companies and each of these spurs more while doing this we must invest in new technologies (jobs of the future) give companies tax incentives to bring jobs back home. Minimum wage jobs don’t do enough to stimulate he economy we need good paying jobs that will get people buying NEW homes.

Valleyforager, I don’t have any numbers at my fingertips and am answering on the fly, but I do remember that huge sums went to banks to ease the housing crisis — money for the banks to use to help underwater homeowners — that they instead used to do things to add to their bottom lines by using the money for things such as buying U.S. Treasury paper. Also keep in mind — and I know this is somewhat splitting hairs — but another huge chunk was in the form of tax cuts, not dollar bills printed out and handed out to anyone. And do I even need to mention Wall Street (beyond banks, I mean)? Your question is a reasonable one, so I hope I’ve given a partial answer of equal reasonableness. Fair enough?

I guess the government contracts paid for with our tax dollars to build Navy and Coast Guard ships, Air Force aircraft, Army and Marine tanks and the like, plus all the military supplies bought from the private sector, do NOTHING to create private-sector jobs? Is that correct, in your view, HawkCW4? I pose those particular examples on the off-chance that the “CW4″ part of your screen name stands for “Chief Warrant Officer 4.” I’d say that kind of spending sure as heck helped when WWII was heating up and then all throughout that war — that’s how my maternal grandparents FINALLY got jobs (building fighters) after struggling just above the desperation level for much of the Great Depression, and how my paternal grandfather made his money (supplying stuff like transport trucks to the military, if on a very small scale, building the runway at a local Naval Air Station, etc.).  And what about programs such as the WPA and CCC, which funneled money into workers pockets that then went to grocery and department stores, etc.? Private-sector businesses?

  • http://www.MekhongKurt.com Mekhong Kurt

Good for you — you’re onto the Republicans now!

  • http://www.MekhongKurt.com Mekhong Kurt

NonElite, it helped my state — Texas — not to have to cut as deeply into the ranks of public-sector employees as otherwise would have been the case — keeping people working, and therefore off unemployment and/or welfare rolls. Governor Perry, despite his harsh criticism of federal spending, happily took the loot and ran with it. Even so, in some areas it was still a bloodbath, such as in education; thousands of teachers got their walking papers.

  • http://www.MekhongKurt.com Mekhong Kurt

Okay, forget President Bush for a moment. How, then, do you explain that Governor Perry instituted statewide reductions in the public sector — adding to our unemployment rolls? His much-ballyhooed “Texas Miracle”? Approximately 40% of the jobs he claims to have created went to people from other states who migrated to Texas — NOT to Texans (of whom I’m one, though I’m not in the job market). Roughly half of the jobs he “creted” were “McJobs” — minimum wage, part-time, termporary — or some combination of those three. And I do believe you’ll HAVE to agree that he’s about as far from President Obama as one can get. Oh — don’t forget the $27 BILLION deficit we face. He basically either used federal stimulus money or kicked the can down the road to the next legislative session to “balance” the books. Magic Math on steroids.

  • http://www.MekhongKurt.com Mekhong Kurt

Jayamerican1, is it REALLY so difficult that many excellent private jobs wouldn’t even exist if it weren’t for government contracts? To take one of the truly big gorillas in the room, consider defense spending. Bombers to battleships are built by PRIVATE companies. Would you rather the government cancel Boeing’s tanker contract with the Air Force? Wonder how many thousands of newly-fired Boeing workers, were that to happen, would agree with you.

And now that the President has grabbed the “third rail of American politics” — and said outright in his address to the joint session of Congress that Social Security, Medicare, etc. — HAVE to be reformed, how many will also stick their necks out and grab it alongside him? (My bet is that even his fellow Democrats will want to try to avoid that. Maybe they’ll shy away as strongly as the Republicans are bound to do, for very different reasons than the Republicans, of course.)

I truly don’t get it, Jayamerican1. If we did as you and your fellows of like mind seem to insist we do and simply close up shop, what about Boeing, GD, various shipyards, and thousands upon thousands of other private-sector suppliers of goods and services to the government to do? Turn around and bail them out, Detroit-style — and add millions to the unemployment rolls in the meanwhile? Or just let everyone go belly up, bankrupt, or at best, very pale shadows of their former selves?

Look, Jayamerican1, I don’t for a second believe you have an ounce of the unAmerican/unpatriotic in you. We’re both Americans. I’m not stupid. I hold two degrees and am a self-retired university instructor. Please explain to me how your approach can possibly work — and I mean that as a legitimate, respectful question, not some trick to blow you out of the water.

just4thefax — you really don’t have to repeatedly demonstrate your utter inability to grasp even the simplest concept, thereby repeatedly humiliating yourself. Really. You can turn off your computer now.

TruthBeagle, you’re right — but the picture you paint is incomplete. There’s something seriously wrong when GE can make billions in profits and pay NO taxes, not a single dollar, and when the wealthy can set up their income to be taxed at a maximum rate of far less than the ordinary income taxes I pay. BTW, counting all kinds of taxes I pay — to over 30 federal, state, county, municipal, and special [such as school districts] tax authorities, I pay FORTY cents out of EVERY dollar I make. How, prithee, is that remotely fair? I don’t want to tax ANYONE out of existence. It would be nice if *I* could escape that fate along with Warren Buffet et al.

Forty cents, Truthbeagle. Convince me I ought to just smile benevolently and tolerantly at GE while I write the checks for my taxes.

just4thefax, I generally avoid sinking to the level of the cesspool you occupy, but you’ve earned it with that gross “remark.” You’re a complete waste of valuable air space.

Ah . . . jay5775, one of the intellectual giants standing at the very pinnacle of the perversion that passes as “conservative thought” these days, or pandered as such, though it’s no more actual conservative thought than a label on a can of green beans is! A real Aristotle and Plato rolled into one!

  • Historienne

You are 100% about FDR and how the depression was extended by him.  It was WWII that brought the US out of the depression as the war created millions of jobs and brought the US out of the depression. FDR did not have anything to do with the recovery.I  know as my Dad fought in WWII and he often mentioned this.   Lesson learned to all of those that haven’t a clue about history. Turn to history books and learn, don’t open your mouth just to hear yourself talk….get your facts then speak..

  • Historinne

Do get your facts straight before making comments that you know nothing about. Were you a teenager in the 1940′s did you live through WWII? Take a clue fromt hose that were there. When your platform/record fails you then turn to attacking those such who have success records and others….you turn to the blame game, sound familar? Yes, just listen any day to the news and you’ll get an ear full of the blame, attack and attack again, as those who attack, have no real platform/success to stand upon. Soon the USA will be know as the USSA United Socialist States of Amercia…..I shudder to think that the country would sink so far in such a short time.  Words of wisdom, listen to all the fact both sides then decided not based upon party but upon success and growth.  .

Obombed-us….failed all by himself. He had both houses and the executive branch; he raised the debt ceiling 3 times between 1-20-09 and 12-31-10, then raised it again this past month. He’s added $4 trill to the debit in 2.years six months….amazing stats. Most people including Europeans are tried of hearing him and others blame Bush…..this is a serious situation, Blue; think back, the entire government was controlled by the liberals from 1-20-2009 to 1-20-2011…..what have then done to this country…..? Bankruptcy.  …..!!

Well, well, do I read blame?  Attack those who are trying to correct a situation and besure to attack and attack, as you have nothing else to show for in your record…..LOL…. .

  • Historinne

Anyone with a memory of the past 2.5 years, can see for themselves that the USA is in trouble. Weekly job reports and so forth. I would have to think that those who are saying the USA is in good shape, must have been in a coma for the past 2.5 years.  OR they come to this site to post comments that they know aren’t true, but get the attention that they seek, by receiving replys.

  • http://www.MekhongKurt.com Mekhong Kurt

Yes, you do, Historienne. Typically, you attack without nothing anything about me, so let me clear up your ignorance.

At 60, I have voted some 70-80% for Republican candidates and causes since I cast my first vote in 1972 — for Richard Nixon. That held true right through 2008, when I voted for Republicans EXCEPT in the Presidential race. Even that was a tough call, as I did and still do like Senator McCain, but his choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate drove me away.

Now to the current situation, Historienne. There’s a fair amount of what the President has proposed since he took office that I felt was unworkable, in the details, politically, or both. And as I have stated repeatedly elsewhere, I wish Maxine Waters, whom I view to be a racist, would shrivel up and blow away. But the Republicans have offered one proposal — Paul’s plan, which doesn’t stand an ice cube’s chance in that very hot place. Otherwise, the GOP has earned — all by itself — and richly deserves the label “The Party of No.”

Stop cherry-picking your facts. Sente Minority Leader McConnell and Speaker Boehner have led the pack, publicly and repeatedly and explicitly saying their Numer 1 goal is the destruction of the President — period. They own those publicaly-stated goals. As for “those who are trying to correct a situation,” don’t make me laugh. Most economist from across the entire political spectrum have said loudly, at length, and repeatedly that we HAVE to both increase revenues AND reduce spending — yet Republicans have responded in Pavlovian fashion — “NO! NO! NO!”

Finally, I’m hardly a New England pinko-commie liberal, Historienne. Native-born and bred rural Texan. Still own a small ranch there. Even voted for Rick Perry before, though I won’t be making that mistake again, even when he stands for dogcatcher.

We’ll talk about your next bit of propaganda in my response to it below.

  • http://www.MekhongKurt.com Mekhong Kurt

I promised we’d take up this stuff next. You clearly have little — or, more likely, no — idea of how even a minority party in the Senate suffering a serious numerical disadvantage can tie that chamber up in permanent knots. And the much-ballyhooed (by your side) “super majority” the Democrats had 2008-2010 ignores the arcane rules of the Senate that allowed the GOP to block numerous, though not all, Democrat proposals. But even the proposals they did get through, such as Obamacare,” are pale shadows of what the President originally wanted.

And look at the current session of Congress. The East Coast gets afflicted with serious flooding and a moderate, but frightening, earthquake, and when the subject of federal relief funds come up, what did House Majority Leader demand? — CUTS to offset emergency relief: no cuts, no relief. That’s REVOLTING, I imagine the muchpdespised-bypthepGOP Barney Franks would vote — without hesitation — to fund emergency relief deven for Cantor’s district. Meanwhile, Rick Perry is screaming bloody murder for federal emergency relief money for Texas — my home state — despite the fact he spits on federal money (in public) constantly, though he goes around to the back door to accept it (in private). But he sure as hell didn’t demand cuts elsewhere before getting federal aid, and he and Cantor are supposedly of like mind. Note: I support Governor Perry’s call for federal aid. Our family place has so far escaped the ravges of the wildfires, so we don’t have a dog in that fight, but I’m worried about my fellow Texans who have been afflicted. They need help — badly. And I desperately want them to get it, even if my taxes have to go up for them to do so. Ditto people in need anywhere in our country.

Historienne, I well may not vote for President Obama come next fall. However, should I choose not to do so, it won’t be because of the fantastical, revisionist, denialist propaganda people like you spew forth all over the Internet.

  • http://www.MekhongKurt.com Mekhong Kurt

I agree, Chucker. While you didn’t remark on the President, I will take this opportunity to point out that supporting some particular initiative the President proposes does NOT mean support for a demagogue like Maxine Waters, whom I detest.

  • http://www.MekhongKurt.com Mekhong Kurt

Bob, typical neocon — and that’s from one who detests Waters. You’ve got YOURS, so to HELL with everybody else.

  • http://www.MekhongKurt.com Mekhong Kurt

I have a better idea, BigEddieGuy. I’m from Texas. Let’s get a start by shutting down every military installation in my blood-red state, including recruting offices, VA facilities, etc. Then let’s wipe out NASA as far as it’s Texas facilities go — well, maybe in Florida, too, since the Republicans there want to cut federal spending. And Alabama and Louisiana, come to think of it. And every federal installation, including the semi-federal US Postal services — hell, let Texans depend on courier services, in the name of free enterprise! And run the FBI, FEMA, et al out of the state.

Then listen to the squeals from every Republican in Texas. It’ll be like listening to pigs who are awaiting slaughter and who know it: their sqeuals are terrible and keen.

Incidentally, given that a lot of Democrats in Texas are actually quite conservative — some even hark back to the Dixiecrat days — they’ll be squealing just as loudly. That should give the state GOP some [cold] comfort.

John_in_SD, if we use as our basis for accepting an 18th-century piece of writing that it couldn’t envision today’s world, where does that leave us regarding the Constitution. Let me hastily interject I’m NOT trying to bait you. I have friends who downplay Smith, reject the writings of the Founding Fathers that don’t support my friends strictly-literal interpretation of the Constitution even when those writings make clear such an aprroach is incorrect, etc. How are you on those matters? I’m genuinely curious.

  • http://www.MekhongKurt.com Mekhong Kurt

You’re right. Fortunately, they refuse to drink the Kool-Aid — sort of like the few survivors of the Jonestown Massacre survivors managed to be, well, survivors.

  • http://www.MekhongKurt.com Mekhong Kurt

He’s not out of his *league,* just4thefax — but he IS out of his element. He had no idea that the Congressional Republicans were for the most part the Washington, D.C. branch of The Crips or The Bloods.

You’re right, ExPatExLawyer — they are. To conservative women, that is.

Those who are either literally or metaphorically trailerhouse trash are an entirely different matter, however.

You conservatives always treat the First Lady with respect — right? Especially those who’ve penned comments I’ve read calling her a “fat ho’ from the ‘hood who ought to be tarred-and-feathered in front of her husband and daughters”?

    Good thing you’re an EX-lawyer. . . .

gideonssword79 — keep that blade sharp. You’ll need it the day after the election. For seppuku — better known in the West as “hari-kari” (which is a misspelling of the Romanization, at that).
