Whoa: Dan Abrams And Nancy Grace Have Explosive Argument Over Casey Anthony Case

Video

Today on Good Morning America, ABC legal analyst and Mediaite founder Dan Abrams and HLN host Nancy Grace got into a heated argument over the defense’s strategy in the ongoing Casey Anthony trial. And, hoo boy, did they have it out.

Abrams suggested that the defense should “shift gears” away from laying blame on Anthony’s father, George Anthony.

Grace was just not hearing it:

You guys are talking about this like you’re out driving your Porsche along Park Avenue and you’re just going to shift gears and go into second gear. It’s not like that.

Abrams laughed and replied, “Tell me how it works, Nancy. I’ve been waiting to learn how it works.”

Grace, upset, reminded everyone that she’s tried a fair share of murder trials in her day and that it “doesn’t work like that.” She even busted out the air quotes. Also… something about cabbage and onions?

At one point, Abrams responded to Grace’s argument by pointing out that she was refuting statements that neither he nor host George Stephanopoulos made.

Later in the segment, a possibly shell shocked Stephanopoulos quipped that he’s “still trying to figure out how to get in my Porsche on Park Avenue.”

Fact: Need to open the net wider on this one and catch more of the guilty fish.

Who is Nancy Grace? Oh yeah I remember now she was that lady that interviewed the mother of a murdered child and Grace berated her and accused her of the crime on tv and the woman went home and committed suicide. I remember now.

Dan Abrams stayed above it all and made her look really silly.

…and they haven’t found the child yet.

Why do people take Nancy Grace seriously? She’s legal infotainment. Dan Abrams offered cogent commentary, while Grace provides the chuckles.

  • lane

Dan should have been less snarky, and acknowledged Ms. Grace has a lot more expertise in murder trials than he does. On her show, she has only lawyers (from both sides) who have extensive murder trial experience), I’d trust her judgement here. Seems like a specialized area since the stakes and responsibilities are so high on both sides.

Her attitude was the issue, not her words. She looked exhausted and the evidence is just excruciating, so I’ll give her a pass on it…

That’s like saying that cardiac surgeon doesn’t understand heart condition. She was a prosecutor, she tried murder cases. She was successful at it. Watch her HLN show, she has both murder trial defense and prosecutor lawyers to analyze this case. In this case, the woman either partied and had a fun time while knowing her child was missing OR was doing the same knowing her child was murdered by another or herself.

Does it surprise anyone that her emotions would run high. I’m avoiding watching this stuff as much as possible, it’s deeply disturbing. She’s covering it every day, that’s reasonable for it to get to her.

  • Georgia999

Grace does have a lot more expertise than Abrams being that she was a prosecutor for many years in Atlanta.
But Little Nancy DOES have an attitude, like her or not.

  • TristramShandy

Dan Abrams got owned by Nancy Grace. Grace is passionate and smart and involved… She leave snarky Abrams in the dust.

  • realitycheck

Agreed, NG is a tad bit over the top!! She ia great victims advocate, who keeps stories in the conversation long after other outlets have moved on. Is she annoying? Yes! But she is a loud voice for the victims. And for that I’ll give her a pass.

Nancy Grace is a clown and a media whore.

This must be really tough for Nancy. Both the victim and the defendant are white blonde women!

Grace is actually color blind. She can get very heated, but I’m sure if any of us had a child missing or in trouble we would love to get her help. She is relentless where children are concerned and for that I too will give her a pass when she “loses” it. With two young children at home about the same age Caylie would be now, it must just eat at her.

As for Dan, he doesn’t have a clue but he’s expected to voice an opinion, that’s why he’s there so….

Well, your memory is very faulty. Don’t know if child murdered or not – that’s what Grace was attempting to find out. So, I would suggest if you can’t remember, don’t try to wing it in order to paint someone with slime when you don’t really remember at all.

Abrams was never a prosecutor as far as I know. He’d have little knowledge of that end of the legal system.

Dan Abrams should have reminded Nancy Grace how right he was and how wrong she was about the Duke Lacrosse Rape Hoax.

I would love to see her called on how wrong she was with Duke Lacrosse Rape Hoax and made to apologize for her shameless smears of the players.

I remember enough, granted I don’t watch her trash show but I remember this, I don’t know if you are aware of this but you are currently using the internet, you can find out the facts on your own.

The family and estate of Melinda Duckett, the young mother of a missing child who fatally shot herself after being battered by tough questions from talk-show host Nancy Grace, have dismissed a lawsuit against Grace and CNN.

According to court records obtained by The Associated Press, the settlement requires that Grace establish a $200,000 trust dedicated to finding Duckett’s missing son, Trenton, who was 2-years-old when he disappeared.

If Trenton is not found alive by his 13th birthday, money in that trust will be transferred to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Trenton would be six today.

If Trenton is found alive before his 13th birthday, his adoptive grandmother will gain control of money in the trust until his 18th birthday, when Trenton could then use the funds as he wishes.

In 2006, Duckett, then 21, appeared on Grace’s show soon after her son, Trenton, went missing. Grace accused Duckett of hiding something, apparently because of her vague answers and unwillingness to take a lie-detector test. Police later named Duckett the prime suspect in the boy’s disappearance.

Duckett committed suicide the day the taped interview was scheduled to air, Sept. 8, 2006. Soon after, her family filed a lawsuit charging Grace with the wrongful death of Duckett.

“Nancy Grace and the others, they just bashed her to the end,” Duckett’s grandfather, Bill Eubank, said following her death.

The lawsuit accused Grace, whose show airs on CNN’s sister network HLN, of inflicting emotional distress on Duckett with her interrogation about the missing boy.

The lawsuit was filed in federal court in Ocala, Florida, in 2006. The settlement agreement between Grace and the Duckett family lawyers was filed Friday and still needs a federal judge’s approval. The trial was scheduled to begin next month

Even before read or watch anything about this article: Don’t you think that Nancy Grace is a very good material to protagonize a Madam Min movie?

  • eyemjustsayin

My take on the trial? Anthony is guilty of sin for murdering her child, showing no remorse. She is a compulsive liar. Her father George, is very likely the father. Look at Caylee’s eyes and facial features. She favors George. Has he been DNA tested as the father? The whole family participated in the coverup. Nancy Grace can be so loud and abusive to her fellow analysts, she loses her credibility in the process. Just like OJ, one wonders will Anthony walk away unscathed from this madness.

These guys must not know Mz. Grace.. Why would you want her on your show? Shock tv? You cannot have a conversation with this .. She just shouts and stomps till she gets her way and her idea is the only correct one.. What a piece of work this x-prosecutor is.. They really need to go thru her back cases and see how many innocent people went to jail… Im sure they would have loved her during the Salem trials on witches…reincarnated?

In Nancy’s defense..she did have a loved one murdered…but that may be what clouds her mind so much.
Obviously, a very troubled woman who could go over the top at any time.. fear for her twins and husband.

Hopefully, whatever the “truth” is Caylee Anthony will have justice done for her and obviously it was someone she knew that had something go terribly wrong.. she deserves justice but not witch hunts..

Nancy Grace is one woman/former D.A that knows her stuff. She doesn’t see anything FUNNY in a child that DIED, and she knows how the defense attorneys can SNOW JOB their cases to make the defendant look innocent, when they aren’t. If you want to learn what JUSTICE is, you should listen to her on her show. Some of our judges/lawyers are just FARCES. Look at how O.J. Simpson played the role. Here is one for you to think about. He claimed he was NOT the murderer. How did his blood get on the SCENE on Sunday, when he wasn’t arrested and his BLOOD DRAWN on the FOLLOWING week, 3 or 4 days AFTER THE FACT…. because he was THERE,

Well Sanders, since I didn’t want to quote your “tome” that was completely incorrect, I will address it here.

In fact – the said lawsuit – thrown out. The family get/got nothing (as it should have been).
CBS set up a $200,000 account to help find the child. All money that is not used in helping to find the missing child will be turned over to missing children organization.

So, Nancy was not found responsible or liable or anything else. The girl killed herself with the secret of what she did with the baby gone with her. Rather sad really.

Nancy Grace is a disgusting example of what’s wrong with both the media and our criminal justice system. Her constant reference on air to Casey Anthony as “Tot Mom” should be banned by the FCC. Oh, I forgot…freedom of the press and of speech, dontcha know. So now we have an outrageous nullification of Casey Anthony’s constitutional right to be considered innocent until proven guilty as manifest by the media in the court of public opinion. Let’s call Nancy Grace “Media Whore” and get it over with.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Catherine-Coy/1207016798 Catherine Coy

Hello – the media does not operate under the assumption of “innocent till proven guilty” doofus – the courts do. The court of public opinion – not so much.

You don’t seem to be able to grasp that.

Nancy Grace is “hired” by the network to do exactly what she’s doing. Just like every other talking head on t.v. – so I think branding her “media whore” besides being extremely offensive would apply to every other paid talking head on t.v., if that is your barometer. If you are just working on being a total jerk – you win.

Grace knows her stuff, maybe, mostly she’s just loud and cuts people off! This doesn’t have anything to do with wantiing someone to get away with a crime! You reference O.J., sure he did it, but by the terms and rules of the court, mistakes were made, in part that’s what Abrams was pointing out. She’s guilty, but being loud doesn’t win for either side!

When Nancy Grace targets a case, she DECIDES who is guilty and there is no such thing as a “FAIR TRIAL” for that person regardless of whether they are guilty or not.
We need laws like in England whereas a case cannot be discussed publicly until it is finished in a court of law. That would take care of people like Nancy Grace and the publicity of cases like this one which makes it impossible for the defendent to get a fair trial.

I would rather a guilty person walk than an innocent person be convicted of a crime like murder – and you should too.

The woman knows her stuff – you might not like the delivery but please, what the hell does George know about what a defense team or the prosecution in a murder trial can/can’t do?
I know, he’s brilliant, but give your old head a shake. Dan, did he ever try a case? I don’t know – but I would put my money on Grace knowing what is and isn’t allowed. Her point was that the defense threw out some heinous charges against the Anthony’s. Well, at some point the defense has to “prove” those charges. Dan and George seemed to think they could just say “hmmm that didn’t seem to work, let’s try this tactic”.

With Grace, instead of her being a loud mouth witch that cuts everyone off, you “teas” make it that, people don’t want to protect the innocent! Come up with a new sham!

  • Trial Counsel

She’s massively annoying, but she’s also absolutely right. Dan Abrams doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Trials aren’t sports games. They’re more like plays and anything unexpected or unscripted well in advance (aside from the jury’s verdict, obviously) means something went horribly wrong and/or someone didn’t do their due diligence. There’s no shifting gears halfway through, or overhauling your trial strategy. If it’s broken, you’re stuck with it, and (if you’re defense counsel) you hope the jury latches onto reasonable doubt. But chances are the case was lost at the opening.
