AOC Reveals She’s Freezing Her Eggs — Leaves Door Wide Open to 2028 Run in Interview With ABC’s Karl

Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) revealed to ABC’s Jon Karl Sunday that she plans to freeze her eggs — and left the door wide open on a  run for higher office.

AOC first shared the information on social media Saturday night, saying on a livestream, “Usually I keep my private life quite private, but I have made the decision to start freezing my eggs.”

On Sunday morning, Karl began, “I want to…get to your future. I’m sure you saw the poll in New Hampshire that had you as the leading candidate, leading choice, for Democrats. First of all, are you going to run for president?”

“I mean, I’m focused on winning the midterms. I’m running for Congress right now,” AOC said, laughing.

“But I mean, do you see this as something — I mean, I know you said you’re open to it. Is it a realistic possibility for you?” Karl asked.

“Well I haven’t ruled out the possibility,” she answered. “And I’m very humbled to the tremendous amount of support out there. I think that we have a responsibility to remain focused on the midterms and not on our individual aspirations or plans.”

“And running for Senate against Chuck Schumer?” Karl asked. “Is that also something that’s possible?”

“I mean, I think that anything is possible at this juncture,” Ocasio-Cortez answered.

“All right. And then, before you go, you did have a personal announcement that you made — it was interesting to see you kind of open up on an Instagram live, I believe it was,” Karl said.

“So I have decided to start the process of freezing my eggs,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “And in this political environment where this administration is denying reproductive care to women across the country, from abortion rights to the ability to carry out a healthy pregnancy. Uh, I think it’s important for us as leaders to have these conversations, conversations, and share these processes, especially for working women across the country and normalize them.”

In the Instagram live, AOC, who’s 36, added, “There is very strangely a political risk, or a political tax, that comes with sharing this info. Per usual, that doesn’t influence my ultimate decision.”

The Granite State Poll Karl referred to showed, AOC with 22% of likely Democratic primary voters casting their ballots her way. Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg came in second with 21%, followed by Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) with 9% of the likely Democratic primary vote.

The contenders were followed by Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), and former Vice President Kamala Harris.
