The brother of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) denied being involved in drug trafficking after a fake news story about him went viral.
Gabriel Ocasio-Cortez shot down a story spreading on social media that misidentified him as “Matthew” and claimed he was involved in a drug ring pushing fentanyl.
His sister is currently on the “Fighting Oligarchy” tour with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), challenging President Donald Trump and his agenda through various rallies.
“I work with the homeless. I have nothing to do with this story, which isn’t real. Please find something better to do with your time,” Gabriel Ocasio-Cortez said in a TikTok video.

The original allegation stemmed from a user named Mamawendi4 who shared the false information with her followers. The post included a fake news article suggesting Gabriel Ocasio-Cortez was arrested by the Coast Guard with $1.2 million in fentanyl on him. Ocasio-Cortez threatened legal action over the false rumors.
“Don’t make me sue,” he wrote with his video.
In another video, Ocasio-Cortez said he is seeking a lawyer in Virginia, saying, “You have to draw the line in the sand somewhere.”

“That’s all it takes to start to get somebody that’s a little bit radicalized, somebody that’s willing to pick up their guns and go do something,” he said. “And it wouldn’t be the first time somebody’s tried. That’s the society that we’re in, so things like this are just more serious than ever — and you can’t slander people.”
