was a father and a child. A father and a husband, had two young children. And this is what the left is doing. I don’t understand it.”

McClain did not come down on Republicans — including President Donald Trump — using similar rhetoric. (Trump, during the 2024 campaign, repeatedly referred to former Vice President Kamala Harris as a “radical left marxist communist fascist.”) Instead, the congresswoman focused on the rhetoric from the left.

“What the Democrats are doing right now, if they can’t beat you on the issues, they can’t debate you on issues, you have to personalize it,” McClain said. “You’re a fascist! You’re a racist! How about just talk to me on the issue and debate me on issues? Leave the personalizations out. But they can’t.”

But moments after she talked about how it is her job, as a political leader, to tone down the rhetoric, McClain attacked the opposition party in stark terms.

“All you have to do is look at: One side holds a vigil, and the other side stokes the flames and burns cities,” she said. “It’s really simple to see the contrast in America between good and evil, right and wrong, and the Republican Party and the Democrats.”
