Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) turned the spotlight on President Donald Trump’s relationship with longtime aide Natalie Harp on Sunday, accusing the president of preferring to “travel with Natalie” rather than do his job.
The Democrat, who is seeking another term in the Senate, invoked Harp, one of Trump’s closest personal aides, during a rally where he criticized the president over the length of deployments faced by sailors serving aboard U.S. aircraft carriers this year.
“While the sailors on the Lincoln fight his war, while he fruitlessly drains our munitions and oil reserves, the president sleeps through his meetings,” Ossoff said.
The senator continued: “He golfs and trades stocks. See, he doesn’t want to do the job; he wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie to their apparently defenseless flying palace gifted by the Emir of Qatar.”
The remark drew jeers from the crowd.
Harp has emerged as a particularly trusted member of Trump’s inner circle and was revealed as being among just three aides who accompanied the president during the controversial plane swap in July, which was prompted by concerns about a potential Iranian assassination attempt.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent were left behind during the switch, along with members of the White House press pool.
Ossoff’s remarks come after Harp’s estranged brother, Preston Harp, told The New York Times that his sister’s relationship with Trump was “very unhealthy” and claimed her devotion to the president extended to leaving him admiring personal notes.
Among those missives was one that read, “You are all that matters to me.”
