RNC Chairman On Funding Max Miller Race: ‘We’re Going to Support Our Nominees’

The Republican National Committee is standing behind embattled Rep. Max Miller (R-OH), who says he’ll stay on the November ballot despite serious domestic abuse accusations against him.

The legal deadline for the Ohio GOP to replace Miller on the ballot is Monday at 4 p.m., but Miller has made clear that he’s not going anywhere, and the RNC has made clear that it will fund Miller’s reelection campaign.

When asked about Miller on NewsNation Sunday, RNC chair Joe Gruters said the RNC “will support our nominees.”

Anchor Blake Burman asked, “is the RNC, Joe, planning to back his campaign with any resources going forward?”

“Listen, divorce is a — I always tell people that there’s not many things worse than divorce, and then watch these processes playing out. Nobody’s a winner,” Gruters said.

“I hope that Max and Miss [Emily] Moreno get the you desired outcome that they want. We’re going to support our nominees. We need to make sure we hold the majorities. Max, I’m sure is on that side. But listen, everybody has to prove that they’re capable of winning and then we’re gonna look at our resources and make the decisions. I can’t tell you right now —”

“Do you think he can win?” Burman asked.

“We’ll see, I mean, I hope that he can. We hope we can hold that seat in Ohio, it’s an important seat. But we’re going to be watching that race very carefully. And like I said, divorce is nasty. I hope that they get the help that they need and we could move past this,” Gruters said.

Far from considering backing out, Miller loaned $1 million of his own money into his campaign via two separate $500,000 installments, The Wall Street Journal reported last week.

Also, last week, Miller participated in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper that left some GOP strategists asking, “what the absolute f*ck was that?”

Miller’s ex-wife Emily Moreno, who’s also the daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH), has accused Miller of severe emotional and physical abuse of both her and her young daughter. Miller has denied the allegations, and no criminal charges have been brought.
